At some point we had a common ancestor. So yes, there is a linkage.

    Seriously?

    :roflol:

Are you seriously that UNINFORMED about the origins of our DNA?

Modern humans INTERBRED with Neanderthals in Europe and we have up to 2% of their DNA.

Since it is IN our DNA that means that Neanderthals ARE certainly part of our forbears.

Sad that YOU are so UNINFORMED about the ORIGINS of the subject that you are making PRETENSIONS about having "expertise" in.

This is beginning to resemble a game of whack-a-mole with you popping up with an ABSURDITY only to have it EXPOSED and then you pop up with yet ANOTHER one.

Only if by "we" you mean that sub-Saharan Africans are not included as modern humans.

In effect, the tiny 2% of Neanderthal DNA proves anatomically modern humans did not evolve from Neanderthals and they were not our forebears. There was only a very small amount of genetic mixing well after anatomically modern humans left Africa.
Only if your forebears include some people outside sub-Saharan Africa.

Oh, you could be eliminating yourself from the “ modern man “ category ?

Anatomically modern humans, or Homo sapiens sapiens, emerged in Africa about 200,000 years ago. But the precise location from which they originated has remained uncertain. Now a new study suggests modernhumans' ancestral homeland was in modern-day Botswana, just south of the Zambezi River.

By the way, off-topic but since the pandemic dominates so many threads and often pops up in unrelated threads, I just would like to add this curiosity:
It's been postulated that Neanderthal genes influence the severity of Covid-19.
Some Neanderthal genes in chromosome 12 make Covid-19 less severe by about 20%.
On the other hand, some other Neanderthal genes in chromosome 3 make Covid-19 more severe by 50%. This variant cluster is present in 50% of Asians and 16% of Europeans.
    ---------
Neanderthals interbred with modern humans between 65,000 and and 47,000 years ago, before going extinct 40,000 years ago. Iran is a country with high prevalence of Neanderthal genes among their population. The bulk of the interbreeding apparently happened around 55,000 years ago in the Middle East.

No, but you sound like you are eliminating sub-Saharan Africans.
Thanks for proving me right and yourself wrong.

Sad that you cannot ever deal with being proven WRONG!

Probably because it occurs so frequently.

Should we RECAP all of things that you were just proven wrong about?

Or can we move on by AGREEING that your general KNOWLEDGE of the topic of INTELLIGENCE is woefully INADEQUATE as established by your responses above?

Thanks for the information above. While it does not bear directly upon intelligence it does establish that whether we like it or not we are closely related to our Stone Age forbears and I suspect that they would be interchangeable with ourselves if it were possible to clone them and have them alive today. With the benefits of modern nutrition, healthcare and technology they would have the same IQ range as ourselves in all likelihood.

We’re debating the crowd that thinks Stonehenge is an alien after thought because early man couldn’t figure out how to “set a stone.” They think Space aliens pop up everywhere to help people’s the average supremest look down upon.
