Yes, the people I know does not mean all people.

I think you know this, but well... you had to throw out a strawman because without it, you have nothing.

The Electoral College was one of several measures in the Constitution to guard against democracy.

Democracy is a terrible form of government.

Had you received a proper education, you would understand the wisdom behind our nations founding and the measures our Founders took to prevent democracy.

You are the one with nothing, as you admit.

My point stands....there are millions of Trumpsters living in California, plenty of them typical rural people just like people in the midwest or the south.

The only states that had more votes for the Orange Dope than California were Texas and Florida.

So it's ironic that so many Trumpsters hate Californians so much.

A red voter in a blue state has far less say in the president than a rural state voter. Why do you not want them to have fair representation?

You seem to have trouble with math. Or you think geography somehow changed math.

What did I say she won? Why are you guys incapable of addressing what is actually said? Why do you have to make up arguments to argue against?

So you favor affirmative action for unpopulated states. Sad. I favor equality. 1 voter 1 vote.

Washington stated in his farewell address, “The common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.”. He was speaking of how political ideology and political parties would destroy the nation — as they would put party over country. They spoke of the “cool, deliberative reason prized above all by Enlightenment thinkers” — they did not fear democracy, they feared idiots.

Who was it that said, “I love the uneducated”? Someone important; a brash, haphazard completely unenlightened individual. I can’t remember his name...

Because they can’t argue what’s going on, they know — deep down — there is no justification for it.

Then that 1 guy will take his state and leave.

    No problemo.

See, what you obviously don't realize is that when all of this was being considered, states were like countries. They had governments, cities governments, and state constitutions. the idea behind the federal government was that it would help those states.

You've told quite a few states that the federal government is no longer a benefit to them.

First of all, I never said they shouldn't bother voting. I have said that the chances of them making a difference are very small. Second, even if I did, that is not the same as:
Like I said. Why do you make stuff up?

Both times the EC choose a Republican for President when the people chose the Democrat. The last one was Trump.

It is no wonder Trump fans want the EC. It comes down to that. All their arguments are B.S. and they know it. Equating states to people is ludicrous.

Are you calling us liars because we believe there is a valid argument for the electoral college.
I don't know of anyone who equates states to people.

By the way, I did not hear a lot of outcries about the system until Trump won.

    I took civics.

Democracy gives everyone an equal voice. That equality is important in elections of any sort. It’s the reason voter suppression is such a big deal. Lots of stuff has changed since the Constitution was put in place. Since we now have at least 3 million citizens, not in the thousands anymore, it would make sense to turn to a Popular Vote to provide that equality that’s so vital.

The sad reality especially going into the next decade is rural America is going in the way of the dodo. All out farming is now done in massive operations. I’m pretty confident that map is different in 2018 versus 2016. How? Because Arizona now has a Democrat, Pennsylvania has become more democratic, and Michigan elected a Democrat in office. That map is the exception, not the rule.

Yeah well, that's why we don't have a democracy. You have one in your state, I assume. So have fun electing governors and mayors.

Yes, your state probably has 3 million citizens, so you guys have fun. The rest of us will watch you guys, and probably laugh because there are around 300 million in the country. Your state with its paltry 3 million will probably elect bernie sanders for governor.

That begs to have the argument if the land of the free is really the land of the free? If people can’t have an equal voice heard up to the highest office in the land, then what kind of freedom is that?

Honestly, I think this whole conversation is a very good reason for states to simply secede. The courts can say what they want, but states that have seceded will just have to start evicting all federal government employees.

We've gone so far astray as a country that we really have nothing in common with each other. It's best just to leave, and if the federal government wants to say we can't, well... we tell them that we can and have.

We will leave in peace if we can, but if we can't, then we will leave in violence.

You don't seem to understand... Ya know, the federalist papers are a good starting point. This "highest office in the land" is assuming that my state is your state. We are not the same, and we have very different values.

Just forget about the president being the highest office in the land. He wasn't voted for by you, but rather by electoral college electors. That means he doesn't represent YOU! He represents the united states, and the interests of those various states. Us normal moes have governors who represent us.
