This is just another example of extreme pettiness and disrespect by Trump. It reflects poorly on his character pulling crap like this and, in the end, will only work against him.

White House flags return to full staff less than 48 hours after McCain's death
Flags at the White House returned to full staff on Monday after they were lowered following the death of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) late Saturday.

Several reporters arriving at the White House early Monday noted that the flags were at half staff for less than 48 hours following the Senate giant's death. President Trump ordered the flags lowered on Saturday evening.

A number of reporters and commentators noted that in the past flags remained lowered to honor lawmakers and major public figures until their funerals.

How long do we wait before the flags return to full mast? 2 weeks? 2 years? After the funeral?

Pointing out the flags is what is petty.

Historical protocol says until the funeral is over.

Weird it’s almost like there’s no standard for how long one is at half staff. In 2016, the flag flew at half staff for 5 days for ex-first lady Nancy Reagan. They flew at half staff for 9 days for John Glenn. It flew for ten days after Scalia died. There really is no standard for how long it flies.

After the funeral is the tradition. Usually a couple weeks.

But I think we can all agree that respect should be shown for longer than over the weekend?

When were their funerals? I'm guessing 5 days later, 9 days later and 10 days later. :)

Agreed. OTOH, Trump gets jealous when he's not the center of attention. CNN was all over McCain and only McCain for the entire weekend.

Then the White House should have waited until after the funeral. Who actually decides when to raise and lower the flags? Never mind:

FLYING THE FLAG AT HALF-STAFF: The pertinent section of the Flag Code says, "by order of the President, the flag shall be flown at half-staff upon the death of principal figures of the United States Government and the Governor of a State, territory, or possesion, as a mark of respect to their memory.

Then my guess is, President Trump is giving McCain the finger for what he did to him with that final "no" vote. But I agree, Trump should have waited until after the funeral.

Just another insult by this flagrantly petty, noisome, shabby and inglorious president to a man who actually ****ing served our nation instead of dodging via bone spurs.

    What a pathetic shame.

Hate? You mean like the kind of hate that Democrats heaped on McCain when he made his run for the presidency against their "Messiah" in 2008? What a bunch of craven hypocrites....

But, because the last significant thing he did in his life was to torpedo Donald Trump's effort to get RID of Obamacare, McCain will become a 'saint' to the "free stuff" mob for decades to come....

Truth? When it's all said and done, Mr. McCain was the EPITOME of the phrase, "RINO"....

Well, since Trump does his only quality work when he's at full staff, this should be no surprise...

Don't forget that McCain also didn't want Trump at his funeral. Again, Trump is petty and everyone here knows it's not the first time. Sure, the pro-Trumpers will post lots of whataboutisms but the fact remains Trump is a petty thin-skinned narcissist.

Agreed on cheesy and McCain in the Rotunda, but disagreed on Trump. He'll lie in state as a matter of respect. No one should sink to his level of pettiness and disrespect for others and our national values.

U.S. Flag Code states that flags be lowered "on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress."

Yet all of your examples were well beyond 48 hours. Trump is a spoiled, petty, child. There is no other explanation.

and McCain not wanting Trump at his funeral isn't "petty"? Of course it is. Both of them are being petty here.

That seems to be the minimum. Nothing prevents a longer time period.
