To say that modern christianity's perpetuation of violence vs islam's perpetuation of violence, is a matter of "opinion", or is a matter of "argument", is silly. There is no argument. There is no opinion. There is simply the matter of the fact of the way things are. Islam is more violent. By enormous margins. I'm saying that you saying "the argument could be made" is dishonest in the fact that the argument would never need to be made. It's like saying "Obama was arguably less damaging to the American people than Ted Bundy". To point out that that argument would even need to be made is obviously a smear on Obama, and a very poorly constructed one. To say that the argument doesn't need to be made is not saying that I'm arguing the opposite either, as you well know.
You said that Islam is arguably less violent than Christianity. ISIS is "The Islamic State In Syria". It's an organization based in Islam. You can't bring up violence in Islam, and then say that you didn't bring up the topic of the groups of violent Islamics. Or, did you not know that ISIS was Islamic?

At least the amway spruikers don't tell you you'll be tortured for eternity if you don't buy their laundry detergent. And as you point out, at least you're acquainted with them. Christer door knockers are in a different league entirely.

And it's the obnoxious and delusional double standard practiced by many mild mannered christians which pisses some of us off. Delusional because they seem to think everyone on the planet reveres their faith.

    this is merely my observation.

It seems that some people get upset when their beliefs aren't affirmed by others. I am bisexual and have been in a committed homosexual relationship for over a decade. I am also Christian and my family attend a gay affirming Christian church, that my husband and I were married in. So not all Christians are like that. But some are.

I really think they become irate about it because they feel that people like me and atheists even threaten their faith by not affirming it.

Why cristians are such hipocrites? Because they do what they want but pretend they are backed up by god in what they do... and so we have " god inspired " people who commit atrocities, but are proud of it.

yes, that. only the very insecure (in whatever) are so easily rattled by non-affirmation .. or even passive disregard. I would attribute this insecurity to the gossamer threads which hold most Christians in place these days. very easily broken, and the subconscious knows this.

doesn't help that the whole rickety structure is a house of cards to start with, and can only be kept standing with a huge amount of effort, and an acute awareness of the need to remain vigilant at all times.

No more so than those who think they are better because they have no religion.

the Vileness of humanity can sometimes be seen in the actions people take in the name of God.

The path to hell is paved with good intentions.

The lament of the OP and many others is confusing 'Christians' with 'religious ppl!'

The term Christian was assigned in the 1st century to those who were 'little Christs,' or walked as He did. He didnt point fingers at sinners but at the 'religious ppl' & leaders of His time. He preached a message of 'grace" or God's unmerited favor thru faith.

Most ppl who 'come to the Lord' in a 'born again' experience (per the scripture "old things pass away and all things become new," and becoming "a new creation in Christ") start out as blank slates that are sincere and hungry for the things of God. An awakening or awareness that they have just encountered.

But then becoming involved with man's churches, doctrine, & dogma, become "religious!" A religious person becomes and grades themselves & others in the "Do's and Dont's" of man-made religion and start assigning levels of 'spirituality' to themselves & others!

I know because I almost got caught up in the trap as a 'Believer in the words of Jesus Christ."

But the false love and the judgement of 'religious' ppl turned me off and I sought (& found) others like myself---studied and valued the Bible but were honest in interpretations and historical messages. A "TRUTH SEEKER." I follow the 'spiritual messages contained within the scriptures but do not make them 'hardcore w/o error" in their meanings. but looking for the 'spiritual' substance contained within them.

So 'religious ppl' are the same for any religion, but the earnest followers of the basics & principles of the messages of loving one's fellow man is the true measure of one's spirituality as demonstrated in Jesus' ministry...

Still ranting over other religions. Prove that christianity has never been the root of violence. I am not going to bother. The truth is history.

I'm laughing so hard my eyes are watering. This post is 0/10. Didn't address the premise of my post. Attacked it as "ranting". Demands others prove your assertion wrong, instead of presenting evidence for your assertion. Changes the argument from "does it need to be argued that christianity is less violent than islam" to "was christianity historically violent", which is clearly moving the goalposts.

Pay attention kids. This is how not to debate. Just to show you how bad it is, if I choose to play along and demonstrate that christianity isn't the root of violence, I could cite historical wars that occured before the birth of christ. It's like you realized I was right, and you just gave up, but instead of doing it gracefully, you left in a huff. Stay classy.

The thread is not about comparing christians to other religions. I am simply pointing out that you are evading the OP.

I understand your thoughts, but keep in mind, it's not just christians who show hatred towards gays. And there are MANY christians who shows love to ALL humans. Still any who call themselves a christian and show hatred, ISN'T a christian in the eyes of those in Heaven. Because Jesus said the first commandment is to show love ,(Mark 12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these). If we follow Jesus, then we belong to him ,(John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed ). Jesus loved all humans, or he would have used his free will to NOT come and die in our behalf when he Father chose to send him ,(John 3:16,17).

God ,Jehovah ,(the Grand creator, Exo. 6:3), doesn't hate people, but their actions, even if some believe...”live your life as you please”. This will cause one's destruction. Because MANY refuse to obey Jehovah’s laws ,(Pro. 1:29-31 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD. They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices). Sadly MANY believe it suppose to be one’s “religions” ,who dictate what one can or can't do, say, etc., it's not. Man has no right to dictate, because we can't even direct ourselves ,(Jer.10:23 -O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps).

It's the word of Jehovah who true christians should teach. Jesus DID NOT teach his thoughts, but he taught what his Father WANTED him to teach ,(John 12:49,50 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak). And it's Jehovah God who despise homosexuality ,(Levi.20:13 and Rom.1:26,27 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet).

Sometimes humans walk by flesh, so what they believe to be right, can lead to destruction,(Pro. 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death). TRUE ministers CAN'T allow those who practice this lifestyle into “God's house”, until they change. There are ministers who would marry them. Sadly MANY wants a big flock, or it's because they're attached to that lifestyle in some way. But going against God's words can cause them to be destroyed as well as getting their flocks destroyed ,(Matt.23:13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in).

Jehovah God and Jesus have NO problem with their people, speaking, being kind, and working with gays. But they have a problem with them accepting, or making gays believe it's ok for that lifestyle. That would mean we're going AGAINST his words, which would bring us destruction ,(Pro. 17:15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD). Also (Pro. 4:14,15 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away). Here's why... (1Cor15:33-Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners). Jehovah God words applies to adulterers, fornicators, liars, etc. some may say, these actions of others can't cause me to become like them.

Sadly satan has made MANY look like a liar. Jehovah and Jesus KNOWS how satan works, christians should too ,(1Cor.2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices). MANY have ended up becoming as the one they associated with are. Even some who at one time was against it, especially a “christian”. Satan is much powerful than ANY human, if he wasn't this world wouldn't be so jacked up. His goal is to get as MANY as he can destroyed. Why?, because he KNOWS he's going down soon ,(Rev.12:12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time). So though MANY don't understand. ANY lifestyle that goes against Jehovah God and Jesus, won't be tolerated. peace

There are good, bad, and indifferent people. Everybody has been in these categories. We humans need love people. Let those without sin throw the first stone. My uncle married this chick and where married for like 2 years. She realized she was gay and they got a divorce. My family is catholic mostly especially my both sets of grandparents , however I just classify that uncle a spiritual. Long story short my uncle remarried to a Hispanic Jew. We had a family photo with everyone , both his wife, ex, and both sets of my grandparents. We love her, she loves us. When my grandma died my gay aunt said at the wake she considered her mother in law more of a mom than her own. Yes my grandparents did not agree but true Christians love. True humans love.
