Why is Iceland so free of violent crime ? (Take a wild guess)

According to the 2011 Global Study on Homicide by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Iceland's homicide rate between 1999-2009 never went above 1.8 per 100,000 population on any given year.
On the other hand, the US had homicide rates between 5.0 and 5.8 per 100,000 population during that same stretch.

GunPolicy.org estimates there are approximately 90,000 guns in the country - in a country with just over 300,000 people.

The country ranks 15th in the world in terms of legal per capita gun ownership.

My take - Hmmmmm what does Iceland have little to no of that we in the US do ? If it's not guns, and economically there isn't much variance, what could it possibly be ?

I don't hate anyone for their race. I do hate the culture of certain races, though.

I hate the fact that large black populations tend to become overwhelmed by thugs. I hate that large Muslim populations tend to cave to extremists. I hate that white people of the religious right tend base their world view on emotions and desire instead of logic and morality.

 

So what is the correct answer to the question you posed in your OP?

To other...Channe is what was called a "Dixiecrat".

They were (or are) voters, primarily in the South, who supported the New Deal and opposed civil rights....when the Republican Party of the 30s, 40s, 50s opposed the New Deal and supported civil rights.

When the Democratic Party under JFK and LBJ began to push civil rights....they became angry and disaffected. They moved, in 1968 and 1972, towards Governor George Wallace in his dual bids for the Presidency. Wallace supported things like Medicare....but opposed integration and touted "states' rights".

Under the Southern Strategy of Nixon and later Reagan, to gain those Wallace voters, the GOP abandoned its support for civil rights and started talking like Wallace did......thus old Dixiecrats like Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms became Republicans. As did most Dixiecrats...and the South became "Solid" for the New Anti-Civil Rights GOP under Reagan and to today.

This also explains why the GOP gets into trouble when it listens to its fiscal conservatives or old Anti-New Dealers and they lose politically when they talk about privatizing Social Security and Medicare (a la Dubya in 2005, or Paul Ryan in 2012)......those "Dixiecrat" voters within the GOP don't like that.

But as long as the GOP....or Rightwing media keep pandering to white racists...everything from "welfare queens" to "thugs" to "urban crime" to supporting ANY white guy shooting ANY unarmed black guy.....those voters will back the GOP.

I am going to disagree. I think we both know the answer was wholly and completely race based. The Iceland nonsense gets spouted at every anti black forum on the internet, where racists sit around and try to convince themselves they are superior by tearing apart other races. I think we both realize that was your entire intent, and I do not think that your whitewashing, no pun intended, of the racial bigotry being expressed in your theme is convincing anyone.

 

"American Renaissance" is also popular with those types....they do "Black on Crime" stories, cherrypicked from the news every week, to provide fodder for racist bloggers.

With the clear implication that "Maybe a few random lynchings'll fix it."

 

I was born in 1979 and have only voted once for a republican - that was Bush in 2000. And you know I'm not white so you can drop the race baiting.

 

I remember an article by the COMBAT magazine about firearms to be shot with gloves on. Only SIG and Glocks seem to have been suitable. Icelanders probably kill each other using poking sticks.
