ALL that was put in place by idris… not Gaddafi. He called himself the Emperor of Africa.

Libya was still importing 90% of its food.

All draped in the flag of patriotism first, then nationalism, then despot.
It's the same as socialism first then communism and then despot...

    Perhaps in your mind.

Patriotism is rooted in affection whereas nationalism is rooted in rivalry and hatred. Patriotism has peace as its substratum. In other words it can be said that patriotism works from the base of peace. On the other hand nationalism has militancy as substratum and it works from the base of enmity.

Nice words, but not based in reality.
You shouldn't believe all that is written on the internet.

Nationalism is the love and affection one feels for his country. However, nationalism is rooted in the belief that one’s country is superior to all others, and carries the connotation of disapproval of other nations or a rivalry with other nations. While patriotism does not disparage other countries, nationalism builds up one’s own country by tearing other countries down. Nationalism supports dominating other countries. The word nationalism is derived from the word nation, which comes from the Latin word nationem meaning origin or tribe, and the suffix -ism.

Those who rally to the cause express patriotism in ways that often embody the best of human nature – sacrifice, honor, commitment, and selflessness, to name a few. (The Christian Science Monitor)

You should have known the difference between Patriotism and Nationalism before the internet was ever invented. Trump doesn't, and that's unsurprising.

So did he kill those people, or were they killed by an outside "force". Why did the UN place sanctions on Iraq, because he invaded peaceful democratic kuwait? He invaded and he got thrown out and he did not go back. Why were the sanctions imposed, because the western world wanted freer access to that oil. And all the other little fiefdoms did not want to be under his umbrella. And you understand that the Unicef findings were debunked by the British and are no longer considered valid. We are not supporting the people in those countries, but the regimes. Stay the hell out of other peoples wars. We had a chance to do some good in Rwanda, where 2000 marines would have stopped the killing of 800,000 innocents, but there was no oil there.

We didn't get any Iraqi oil during the years that the US imposed the no fly zone over Iraq.

They are paid for in what they generate in economic impact. Those calculations are never considered in thier statements. 5000 locals work on the base, thousands of local vendors support with food, fuel and daily needs, hundreds of businesses around the base set up to supply GIs with recreation etc. Look at the economic impact of a base in the US and what that means to the local economy. Japan assists the most of all the allies but I can't see how the cost benefit is not even more heavily in thier favor given the economic impact of the bases.

what does that matter to the argument? Did the US led interventionist war in Iraq cause more deaths than if we left him lick his wounds and play nice on the world stage. My statement was that as a brutal dictator he killed 1000 of his citizens every year in a reign of terror. We went to war to dispose him at a cost of 500,000 Iraqis, or if you wish to add how many we killed by adding the sanctions after the kuwait war another 300,000 or almost 1 mill if you believe the UN over the brits, that is like the effect of 800 years of his dictatorship. Never mind were the iraqis who lived suffered more under his reign or during the 10 years of war?

If you are concerned about Fake Don's recent deployment of 1,800 more troops to Saudi Arabia that adds to the 20,000 he keeps in other Middle Eastern nations and Afghanistan, you are not alone.

Of course, his sudden betrayal of a capable democratic ally in northern Syria by his ordering the 1,000 stationed there in a low-risk, vital support role is quite another matter.

Fake Don being manhandled by a brutal dictator in his lust for ethnic cleansing, while facilitating the release of thousands of Islamic State terrorists, is a disaster for the United States.

Fake Don's unconditional surrender is a significant win for ISIS, Iran, Assad, and, most of all, Putin.

What a shameful episode in the annals of Trumpery.

I resigned the Republican party just before Bush invaded. It was a damned stupid war.

In 1997-98 Saddam begged the US to let Halliburton come in and repair and update existing reserves before they were lost forever. The cost was estimated at 20 billion.

Betrayal of democratic allies is not a defensible policy.

Imagine if Fake Don had been Commander-in-Chief during WWII, suddenly abandoning Britain, France, etc., and the respect the US would have earned by doing so, with its implications for post-war amicability, cooperation, and the likelihood of advancing American interests and values on the international stage.

Even Israel no longer trusts in a Trumped USA where any nation can be treated as shoddily as a trophy wife, cheated on and discarded, with nary a moral qualm.

American interests or American business interests. I like how people think one reflects the other. I have zero interest in Kurdistan, or Syria or Iraq. Or Isreal as long as they keep perusing an expansionist foreign policy and put Palestinians under military occupation. Gee they throw bombs at Isreal, how would you feel in Mexico took over texas and did not allow you to vote and if you left during the war your house was given to Israelis settlers at not compensation. Bet you would be kind of pissed.

One wonders how many of today's fanatical Trump bum kissers flailed the pom poms in their frenzied support of Dubya's fraudulently-pretexted invasion of Iraq.

When Obama respected and complied with Bush's withdrawal schedule (U.S. combat forces would withdraw from Iraqi cities by June 30, 2009, and all U.S. combat forces will be completely out of Iraq by December 31, 2011) specified in Bush's SOFA (Agreement Between the United States of America and the Republic of Iraq On the Withdrawal of United States Forces from Iraq and the Organization of Their Activities during Their Temporary Presence in Iraq) that killed the Bushies' scheme to impose a permanent US military presence upon Iraq, they howled and vilified Obama for honoring the provisions of Bush's agreement.

Obama couldn't renege on Bush's agreement. The US would have zero credibility if every president did that.

Wow, you mean a people who live on sand, have to import food? That is the fault of the nations leaders? I would think that is a plus, that if a place that can not sustain itself in food production can provide for its people by other means. Who gives a **** what he is called?
We spent billions to overthrow him, why, because we thought we could get a better deal on oil, not that he killed a thousand dissenters. Hell 1000 die in Chicago and the nation does not spend billions to eliminate that. But I bet if there was an oil refinery in the middle Comminsky Park that area would be more violence free

You don't either if you don't know that patriotism and nationalism are linked at the hip.

I abhor the "Eretz Yisrael" fanaticism of Likud and their apartheid policies. That does not sanction abandoning our democratic ally in northern Syria to make way for a brutal dictator's genocide while liberating potentially thousands of ISIS terrorists and furthering the interests of Iran, Assad, and Putin as anything other than shameful and counter-productive.

A callous, cavalier "Pontius Pilate" pretense is naïve in the extreme. There are consequences.

That does not prevent hyper-partisan crackpots blaming their foreign-born, Muslim, America-hater (who was twice elected with over 51% of the vote and completed his two terms with 60% approval) for respecting their Bush's signed intent.

Not unless you think like Adolf Hitler. Nationalism doesn't allow for principles or scruples or morality.

Ah, but it's a willful ignorance, that valiantly withstands the barrage of truths that assail it.
