The pollsters are as biased as the news networks are. The worst on the right is Rassmussen Reports, and the worst on the left are NYT/NBC News Polls, and Newsweek.

Ironically enough...some of the more realistic pollsters include Fox News Polls.

Interesting that some will try to claim the moral high ground while those same folks passed of Clinton's indiscretion by saying 'it doesn't effect his job performance.'

You mean to say that the Republican voters in his district are so partisan that they would overlook his behavior in order to vote for the party?

    Now, that's just sad.

The only way Sanford could've been a worse candidate would be if he committed armed robbery while cheating on his wife. I can maybe understand Colbert-Busch losing by a nudge, but 10 points? To a cheater who rubbed his wife and kids' noses in it by publicly swooning over how much he was in love with his mistress just days after he was caught? Did no women vote for Sanford and he won solely on the male vote?

All that is bad enough, but is "Really People" right about misuse of travel funds? That alone should be enough to have kept him from office.

No, it isn't. Like the other poster said, if misuse of funds were a sound reason to keep a candidate for office, not one Congressperson would ever get re-elected.

This isn't a topic of misuse of funds. It's a topic of sexual morality and how the voters of SC handled the candidates respectively. It threw a lot of people for a loop and sort of underscored how garden variety conservatives [SC isn't a hard red state] leaning towards the middle feel about candidates who stand up and proudly wave the rainbow flag.

in the 2008 Henry Brown only won the race against Linda Ketner by 4 points. Ketner is openly gay, supported gay marriage, supported a carbon tax., and wanted immediate withdrawal from Iraq. Cant get much more liberal than that yet she came 5 points closer to winning than Colbert Bushe did. Brown's biggest sin was he let a trash fire turn into a wild fire. Not really much baggage compared to Sanford

her campaign strategy could be summed up in one phrase " I suck less than Mark Sanford suck"

saw at least 500 Colbert Bushe ads in the last month, still have no idea what she has ever done except have a brother who is a comedian. Dems spent a lot of money just telling us what we already knew, Sanford is a dog. Next time at least tell us something about your candidate

when it is broken down by precinct I think the results will show rich Dems and academia voted Bushe, blacks stayed home, GOP was scared of a Pelosi clone so voted for Sanford

Other rational Republicans have already explained it.

In this- like most things- its not about the gay mafia or the gay cabal or anything gay- its because he was a Republican.

Or we could listen to what South Carolineans say is the reason:

Mr. Sanford’s consistent message of fiscal frugality obviously helped him carry the heavily Republican 1st District Tuesday despite the scandal he brought upon himself — and our state — when he went AWOL as governor to visit his mistress in Argentina in June 2009.

It sounds like they're listening to what he says, rather than watching what he does.

For goodness sake! This is South Carolina. It's still 1830 there. Trying to tell those cavemen that they should be in favor of equal rights for all is like trying to teach an earthworm astrophysics. They will vote for a rotting corpse if it's a Repub.

Well, they are the state that shouted "you lie" at Obama during his address. Still though, gotta wonder about the wide spread. Some women out there in SC had to be weighing Sanford's infidelity. But 10 points means Colbert-Busch probably shouldn't have run at all. And the polls predicting she would be close or win? Way off.

cant get my hand on the precinct by precinct breakdown break down yet but unofficial inside info is that the black precincts had very low turnout numbers. Bushe pulled in the white Democrats, academia and limousine liberals, Sanford pulled in the GOP who who feared a Pelosi clone. Even though Ketner campaigned openly as a far left candidate she got a lot of the black vote thanks to Obama being on the ticket.

Pretty simple really why Sanford won after reflecting a day or two on it and asking around a bit locally. Dems dropped the ball on getting the voters off the couch and into the booth. If Bushe had been black the outcome would have been close or she may have won. Charleston is 41% black ( 21% for the entire district) and compared to a National election there was a very low turnout

Pelosi hasn't been able to accomplish that much. She's a paper tiger. The only thing that I can see that the uber left has accomplished time and again is ramrodding gay marriage in as "legal" behind the backs of registered voters in about a dozen states now. And Busch did make quite a point in her debates with Sanford about being vehemently behind legalizing gay marriage. Did she say she was vehemently behind anything else with teeth?

No offense...but the way your brain interprets reality is way different than how mine does.

At any rate...I don't understand the use of the term "uber left". Seems to me all Democrats are the same.

You were around for the primaries in 2008 I assume? Do you recall how many Clinton democrats were furious that Obama stole the nomination? If you think there isn't a huge wedge of democrats near or directly in the middle of the political spectrum, think again. The squeaky, whining wheel on the far left of nonstop gay promotional tactics is what everyone hears. Meanwhile there is a silent majority of democrats fed up with the direction this tiny group with the rainbow bullhorn has taken us.

For instance, they just lost us a Congressional seat.....again....and they're going to lose us plenty more if this gay albatross isn't removed promptly from around the neck of the entire party.

Just like the neocons on the right losing votes and Offices for their extreme views on women's reproductive sovereignty, the dems are losing votes and Offices from their extreme views on legitimizing deadly sodomy via marriage.

That isn't the first time you've heard me say that here on this thread. Why are you acting like it is? To ridicule the topic off the first page of current events?

No, the winner of the election was Sanford. Remember, Colbert-Busch is the sister of an extremely popular TV host/comedian. I hardly think it was an apathetic sentiment behind her defeat.
