I see thread after thread of people trying to prove that God does exist, followed by thread after thread of others trying to prove God doesn't exist.

To those who try to prove God exists... why do you feel the need to convince non believers?

To non believers, why do you feel the need to convince believers that there is no God?

Because a lot of people suffer from bad beliefs. Politics basically. Remember that no matter how awesome a political candidate is, if he happens to believe the wrong Middle Eastern stories, his will never be elected to anything. Out of all the American congressmen, how many are anything but Christian or Jewish? Religion has an impact, and according to me, a negative one.

Because people base ideas upon religious beliefs. I'm not saying that parents who chose prayer before medical help are common, but it's such a stupid mistake to make, and it could have been avoided with so little effort.

And lastly, because religion is one of the few areas where I feel I have a full grasp of what I'm saying. No matter how confident I am in my social democracy, there are so many bad fish among politicians, so many good hearted ideas that don't work out, that discussing pure politics is hard. Religion is absolute. It states things precisely, which means it's easy to refute.

Like most atheists, I can't cay for certain that there is no god though I highly doubt it. As I'm not certain I for sure wouldn't try to convince someone of something I'm not convinced of to begin with so, for me anyway, the premise of your question is just wrong. I don't "feel the need to convince believers that there is no God". I am, however, quite willing to tell theists just how silly I think some of their ideas are and I will indeed oppose the crazy Chistian right (or any other religious nut cases)when they try to push their religious agenda in the political arena.

And to be fair, if a person is convinced that I'd go to hell, I'd respect his or her ambition to convince me. Even if I don't respect the way they sometimes do it.

I don't understand militant atheists at all, because there is no way to know with certainty that there is No God. I do understand militant believers because it's possible they are tapped into truth and a lot of us just never see it, like psychic energy. It's also possible believers are insane or delusional so of course they would be adamant in their zealotry.

And not one of those statements is meant in jest.

In thread after thread people use faulty reasoning to prove God's existence, and through that faulty reasoning they want to dictate how you and I live.

As it has already been explained to you (on more than one occasion), atheists typically do not claim there is certainly no God, but no evidence to suggest the existence of.

What is a militant atheist anyway?

I'm not sure I have ever even gotten into religious debate here.

I think the evidence of God exists or not depending on your outlook from the start. I know for certain that the mysteries of life are so vast that to simply dismiss a possible intelligent creator spark out of hand would be pretty silly.

So God lives in the mysteries? God lives in the gaps of our understanding? The God of the Gaps?

That is a very odd outlook.

Intentional obtuseness is the realm of idiots. I'm not interested in parsing stupidity.

You are claiming that there are mysteries in life that are explained by God.

    Mysteries are gaps in knowledge.

Your God lives in the gaps of knowledge, God of the Gaps.

It seems rather insulting if anything.

I havent seen too many threads dedicated to proving a negative.

I cant nor would I spend any time proving leprechauns dont exist and there is the exact same amount of evidence for the existence of both god and leprechauns.

If I said there was no such thing as a Phoenix or a Centaur, well wait, why would I even say that, they are mythical as is god...

Atheists are simply saying that there is no such thing as leprechauns or god...

But are not "bad beliefs" subjective? I see people setting each other straight all the time on the forum. Many times stating opinion as infallible fact. Beliefs are subjective... especially when it comes to or is seen through the lens of theology.

For the most part I agree. I have no problem with Christians, Judaism, Islam, Buddhist, or any other monotheistic or polytheistic beliefs out there... nor do I have a problem with non believers such as Atheists. I do have a big problem once someone starts judging me by "their" belief system based on "their" Religion and or trying to convert me and not taking no for an answer.

That doesn't seem like a fair representation of what he said. He didn't say God caused those mysteries or that they were proof of God. It sounded more to me like he was saying that the mysteries in life were so large that it left room for the possibility of God. That there is so much we don't know for sure that dismissing even the possibility of God was "pretty silly."

    I can agree with that.

Too many topics around here trying to challenging Atheism and doing a poor job of it.

The believers try to convince others because they care about what happens to people. In Christianity, specifically, it is explicit in the doctrine to proselytize and spread the gospel to make more believers. Sociologically speaking, it's typical in-group out-group biases at work; nothing special.

For the non-believers, at least in my case, I just want someone to have a good reason to believe what they believe before they try to convince me to believe it too. So i'll challenge them on it, and rarely get back a good reason other than it feels good. "The Lord's power washed over me" is not a good reason. That's in your head, not the real world. Psychotropic drugs or a head injury can take all those feelings of the Lord away, that's the real world.

I'm saying there are gaps that are unexplained or defy explanation. I didn't say that's proof of God, I said that's proof that not everything can be explained and at the very least deserves an open mind.

Only an idiot would find that insulting.

Of course this is indeed "god of the gaps". It's exactly what wolverine was pointing out. You've just reworded it.

    I could not agree more.

But then there is the thread with the "chimpanzee " test. Like one can compare God to a chimpanzee as proof positive that there is no God.

I see lunatic fringe on both sides.

The wish to prove the existence of the God is there, but the humanity can't prove that our God does exist, most of the humans are conjecture about his existence; but some of us, sure that our God exists, some of us know it because of spiritualistic proofs. I am one of the evidences of knowing the fact, about the existence of God; because I believe in spiritualism as you believe in your religion. After reaching a lot of experience with spiritualistic abilities, I can pronounce his existence as FACT, even if I can't prove it to most of the humans on our earth (because they have not discovered the spiritualism).

According to the Bible people will either go to hell, death, or to the sea. The good news is that they are all temporary. Everyone will get out of those conditions on Judgment Day. Remember, even Jesus went to hell. So when people say that someone is going to hell it's not a big deal. After Judgment Day no one will be in hell. They will either be in the lake of fire or in the gaudy bejeweled golden cube that's called New Jerusalem. Don't expect Gentiles to make it into the golden cube. Hint: the name suggests who it's for.

I don't feel the need to convince non-believers of anything. I only came to this forum and participated, because I am infuriated with Zio-Liberfascists trying to push their sick, disgusting "gay marriage" in everybody's faces. I'm sick of the Zionists sexualizing children and a seven year old boy saying "I'm gay and proud". It absolutely wretches my stomach.

The tradition of Heretics and Heresy is to challenge corruption WITHIN the Church. Sometimes priests, pastors, and bishops misinterpret the WORD OF GOD, and abuse GOD to their own contrivances. The tradition of Heresy is to check and balance this. Sometimes Heretics have been persecuted, put on trial, and even killed for these challenges against the traditional church establishments.

However, today there is a separate challenge. And that is these Zio-Liberfascists who want to push their sexually perverted "gay marriage" INTO THE CHURCH!!!!! This is absolutely outrageous and I cannot stand for this!!!!! I don't want these SICK, PERVERTS anywhere near TRULY CHRISTIAN CHURCHES, PEOPLES, FAMILIES, OR CHILDREN!!! Homosexuality is a perversion, these are SEXUAL DEVIANTS, pedophiles, and they are MENTALLY ILL. Do you understand?

Now that I've made this case, I really have no more interest in discussing GOD with atheists and zionists who don't know the FIRST THING ABOUT GOD. Why waste my time???? I've spoken my outrage and this should be enough. Atheists are a laughable, childish bunch. You can tell that they're not old and mature people or souls. They're young, and maybe should be forgiven of their ignorance.

But FORGIVENESS is in the realm of CHRIST and GOD...............

I don't have much left to say.

So if God created everyone and everything why do you hate what he created? In Genesis 1:31 (NKJV) it says: Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

I see the lake of fire in someone's future.
