If they don't... they WILL further marginalize themselves.

    Good- let them.

I predict this is like abortion for them. Plenty of them will always use us to get elected.

They see the future at the RNC. Even among Republican women. Phyllis Schafly is nearly 90.....S.E. Cupp is 34....and represents the future.

I'm sure they DO see what's coming; and that explains about 90% of the crazy extremism we're all witnessing.

Really, what the hell is wrong with actually HELPING homosexual people to be happier and healthier overall? Why have so many grounded themselves in fear, hatred and homophobia? Are they THAT freaked-out by the REALITY that things as they are... don't line up with their ideal view?

I'm all for exercising a modicum of what is surely "conservative"... but Lord knows, these overly-controlling, greedy, power-hungry jerks we see pasting the label "Conservative" or "Tea Party" across their chests these days, have become depressingly repulsive (along with the monied interests who support them). :(

Republicans stance against gay marriage is based on their Christian views. Christianity being a dictatorship and not a democracy means that to be a good Christian they have to stand against gay men and women. I do not think the GOP's stand against gay marriage will ever change.

In that case, I am relatively certain that 'reality' will move right pass them.

They're slowly coming around. After scores of high-profile Repubs signed onto a legal brief in favor of ending gender discrimination in marriage, it was only a matter of time before a current office holder got up the courage to do the right thing.

    More will follow.

I disagree....the GOP has already shown that if one of its "rock-hard, unwavering principles" is unpopular?.....they'll drop it. i.e. Marco Rubio talking "amnesty" and NOT "kick 'em all out, build a 40 foot electrified fence on the Rio Grande".

or abortion even. While Republicans TALK a good game on abortion, even when they get total power Congress & WH (as they had from 2003 to 2006).....they don't push a "pro-life" agenda that actually threatens Roe. They KNOW it's political suicide.

Just getting ready to OP that.

Perhaps you are right, but to back down from their platform just makes them look like political hacks that will do anything to get a vote. But then again our politicians are suppose to represent we the people and not their own political agenda.

    Time will tell.

Republicans and Democrats alike are political hacks. I can't wait for either party to be replaced by something better.

And socially. I saw a poll a few years ago said that YOUNGER Evangelicals care less about opposing gay rights and abortion, than they care about the environment and poverty.

Like racism, homophobia is an "old man's disease". TIME...eventually cures a society of it.

Getting closer now. Rand Paul wants "Government out of marriage"....Marco Rubio saying he basically has no problem with States "defining marriage" as they wish.

Phyllis Schafly, Grand Dame of the Religious Right is nearly 90.....S.E. Cupp, who boycotted CPAC over gay exclusion.....is 34.

As they say...you do the math.

    Not the present GOP.

But even the Right is made up of HUMAN beings; they won't remain the exact same forever.

Seems to me that many (certainly not all) capitalists are destructive; they are greedy (lust for wealth) and clamor for power. Some like that are leftists... but I think the most egregious examples I've seen are residing on the Right (Conservatives).

I feel like most politicians are only interested in money to be honest. I have rarely seen a politician who was truly for the interests of the people.

In fact most of the politicians I do find be more honest are the ones who take positions in the less well known (and by far less financially supported) political parties.

How about money AND political ambition? Apparently there is no more future in politics trying to appease anti-gay bigots.

6 months ago I would have said no they would not. That has changed all the indications that are ready to give up that principle along with Path to citizenship which they dont want anyone to call path to citzenship, rand paul is a trip.
Conservatives on forums keep screaming we will keep our principles and the leadership is slowly doing the opposite because they know they cant win elections they way they were going. The one principle they will not and could not every give in to is protecting the richs, riches

Interesting isn't it? Apparently after Romney's Disaster, they're AT THE LEAST willing to throw under the bus both the Social Conservatives as well as the Nativist Conservatives....eschew opposition to gay rights and suddenly embrace the idea of immigration reform.

Perhaps in the end, all the GOP EVER "really" stood for was...its economic policies and the rest were lies or useful but phoney pandering to a bunch of theocrats and bigots?
