The following was written and posted to the Waco Tribune Herald, Waco, TX. by a 21-year-old female.

    Put me in charge....

Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star
cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for
50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and
all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak
and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military
barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and
good state of repair. Your home" will be subject to
inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried.
If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and
    your own place.

    In addition, you will either
present a check stub from a job each week or you will
report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the
roadways of trash, painting and repairing public
housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22
inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo
and speakers and put that money toward the 'common
    good...'

Before you write that I've violated
someone's rights, realize that all of the above is
voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.
Before you say that this would be 'demeaning' and ruin
their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long
ago that taking someone else's money for doing
absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self
    esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other
people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make
them learn from their bad choices. The current system
rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

    AND....

While you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can
VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a
conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove
yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't
welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.

Since this is the opinion portion of the forum, I would be curious to know how you fine folks here
view this young woman's solution(s) to our big government problems. It does seem to me that this
young woman was either a veteran or is currently enlisted in the military, and that she obviously
has a straight forward Conservative solution to our nation's financial and welfare problems.

The intent is good, the details workable and likely effective....but I agree the voting thingy in unconstitutional.

It would be a good Idea for whatever party tried this however....as they would turn many against them at the polls.

The problem with this mindset is the premise that all these poor people need is a kick in the ass to become "productive" members of society.

The social welfare system isn't supposed to be punitive. Those who genuinely need this help far outnumber the few who abuse it.

Though there is obvious disdain in the womans article and SHE means this as a punishment...the incentive to wean off the teat is a compelling argument. As it seems clear to me our social safety is in trouble, this idea still protects our unfortunate citizens, yet tells them they will need to live only 100% better than most outside the country instead of 400%.

Likely saves a buttload of money, and lessens the level of fraud.

Her view that these welfare leeches won't have the right to vote makes a lot of sense as well, since its these very people (welfare queens) that will continue to vote in candidates who will ensure them a cradle to grave existence, and thus putting more undue stress and financial woe on the taxpayers of our nation.

This women's opinion sadly is based on complete igorance of SNAP and who are the majority recipients of SNAP, which are children, the elderly, and the disabled.

I would suggest anyone wishing to make an informed opinion on this subject read thru the document I linked.

This woman's opinion isn't based on an ignorance of the statistics you presented, no, her opinion is based on having a grasp of life itself, and on seeing how people can and do accept responsibility for their own lives. If everyone were to follow her rules of engagement--then those tear-jerk touchy-feely statistics you quoted would substantially subside. Her entire proposition here is aimed at holding slackers feet to the fire, and at the same time creating a sense of self worth during the process. Freebies have to end sometime, why not now?

While I can see the argument, using the term "Welfare Queens" makes the underlying thought process quite clear, and it is far from pretty. Also, bypassing our constitution is not in my opinion, a good idea. Those changes we have made to the peoples voice have been to increase it, not remove it.

No, her opinion it is based on ignorance and a fabricated reality. You can tell right from the first sentence when she uses the term food stamps. This isn't a women who spent a few years researching the program which would make this an informed opinion. This is just a diatribe based on nothing but a reality she wants to portray, but which does not exist.

She is completely ignorant of SNAP. She wants to head up a program that she doesn't even know the proper name for and hasn't gone by the term food stamps for over a decade.

She might as well be stating she should head up NASA.

She, myself and millions of other productive citizens are also ignorant of your welfare-related ad hoc acronyms (SNAP) of the day. What more does the woman need to know about the life wrecking programs of the entitlement state? What this woman is doing here is to give policy proposals and or hope to these people that in the end will get them off the dependency crusade of these liberal policies and programs and get them to begin living a worthwhile and productive life. I get the feeling that you're quite content in raking the tax payers over and over again so as to keep these welfare whores on the lifetime dole. Have you watched or read up on the welfare problems of Greece recently? This woman's intent is to ensure America doesn't follow the same downward spiral as Greece.

Opinions which are not based on facts and reality are useless and meaningless.

If I were to ask you for your opinion on the attractiveness of person X yet gave a picture of person Y for you to base this opinion . . .would this be a valid opinion or useful opion to base some sort of policy on?

Stating ideas about policy changes to a program when one has nearly zero knowledge of the current inner workings is useless and pointless.

SNAP is not an ad-hoc acronym of the day. It is the name of the program for over a decade.

So I guess that you consider the elderly, children and military service members that draw food stamps as leeches, thanks for your POV, everytime the far right runs this same "article" they lose more supporters, you are the Democrats best friend and are simply not smart enough to know it, even when others point it out to you.

Same difference, but either way they are speaking from Ignorance, a common trait among the far right.

Oh I see where you're coming from. You're not happy or comfortable with the term leech. Tell you what, I'll change that term to 'permanent dependent' so as not to offend anyone. Btw, I'm a veteran and I've never seen or heard of a veteran receiving foodstamps. Children wouldn't have to rely on foodstamps either, if their parents were to live by the rules/proposals as set down by that woman from Texas in the OP. We already know that obama hussein is the 'permanent dependents' best friend as he's been officially labeled the 'FOODSTAMP' president. What a legacy obama has to look forward to.....the greatest FOODSTAMP/WELFARE president in our history.

Actually your reply proves you don't see anything and to say no servicemen, I did not say veteran, draw food stamps is either a lie on yo0ur part or you are totally ignorant of the facts. The "story" and it is an old one by the way, is pure stupidity since it shows her/their utter lack of knowledge on the topic but is good at playing the sheeple that already believe anyone that draws any assistance is some sort of leech. I notice you totally ignored the elderly, we both know why. Good News though, you will never get your way, enjoy.

Nothing I haven't been asking for all along. But the poor didn't create welfare or entitlement programs, the government owned by the rich/elite did. Our problems are much deeper than poor people getting welfare. The government is corrupt and bought & paid for, and 40-50 years of cronyism is what has led us to this point.

Rather than engage your double talk here, I will instead ask you to tell us which one (if not all) of the woman's proposals do you find to be unacceptable solutions to straightening out the lives of these permanent dependents? Perhaps you find all of her proposals to be troubling, and if so, what if anything would you propose to help these dependents get off the dole? Please disregard that last question if you've already decided (like Nancy Pelosi has said) that the more people on welfare and unemployment is a great boon for our economy.

Then you are either miss informed or in denial. An E-5 with 2 kids living on base/post is eligible for food stamps and many make use of them. So do many of the disabled vets (mentally/physically or both), and many vets are homeless living off government subsidies just like any other poor person who has been trained to accept help from the government as a way of life. The worst thing about food stamps is that people with jobs need them and use them to survive. That shouldn't be the case in any scenario.

Doubletalk? I believe I was perfectly clear in my response to your post, but is obvious you will not admit that what I stated was true. Not a fan of Pelosi and I disagree with her on many things, but I am hard pressed to fined anywhere where she says unemployment is a boon to the economy, hmmmmm, more false statements do not make the previous ones made go away. I disagree with nearly everything proposed in the "story" and while I am all for welfare reform I am not ready to become a good little Nazi which is what the "lady" sounds like to the core.

Whether a handful of veterans decide to accept foodstamps in their lives is still missing the point here. The proposals of the woman in the OP are meant to create a social climate where people in general will find no need to be beholding to a big govt nanny state, and at the same time honor the dictates of our Founding Fathers who clearly stated that there is a limited role of our govt in the Constitution, and that role certainly wasn't to pamper and to feed people the rest of their lives. Have you ever seen a person or a family on general welfare that looked content and happy with their lives? Where's Ronnie when you need his wisdom the most....."Pick yourself up by your own bootstraps"

A good little Nazi? OMG, the irony here is that while Hitler had his minions become a ward of the state while marching to his orders/dictates, i.e. Nazism....the similar traits to Nazism are being realized here in America as the govt's minions, i.e. welfare dependents are marching to its orders/dictates. This Texas woman is only proposing a little self responsible behavior--not unlike what our new military recruits undergo while attending bootcamp. BTW, we don't allow our prisoners to vote since they are dependents on our govt for their basic survival, so why would we grant voting rights to welfare dependents since they are just as dependent on govt for their survival as well? So what type of welfare reform did you have in mind?

Yes a retraining, I agree. But the situation is much worse than many realize. People have been taught by the plutocracy that government will take care of them, one way or another, if they will remain dependent. Welfare makes people less competitive, more docile, and complacent to whatever is going on around them. The rich/elites use this to their advantage, and have made welfare type programs family heirlooms, and an alternative lifestyle to actually having to pull up their own boot strings, which has created the unrealistic wealth that is kept at the top and unrealistic profit margins for the monopolized industries that control not only the nations economy but the world's.

Yes I has seen people who are content to live on government subsidies, and seen them strive to maintain that lifestyle through disability programs when they have exhausted their welfare benefits. The worst are the illegal aliens who utilize government subsidies to subsidize the low incomes they help keep at unrealistic levels without realizing they are a massive burden on the working class taxpayer and the partner in crime with the rich/elites and their plutocracy of cronyism economics. It's not just the poor people, but they are definitely pawns in a much larger scheme of destruction.

She is proposing far more than personal responsibilty, she is talking about violating their rights as citizens, psssssst they are not prisoners and the vast majority are not totallty dependent on the government it is assistance not a free ride for most, but go ahead ignore that fact and repeat your mantra. Reform is getting the abusers off and those that need retraining or other skills are given a way to get it so they can make enough to not need assistance, you know; kill off the waste and teach them to fish.
