The fonts will improve if the background gets shaded to something a tad darker than blinding white I am guessing. Seems like I recall another site that darkened the background just a bit from white and it improved all the visuals drastically.

If you don't hear back from me tonight don't worry. Got work in the morning so I've got to get to bed.

Same here. I had to use "forgotten password" to reset mine. After that, no problems with "wrong password".

That's very reassuring, because this is the first report from members who have had to reset. Thank you so much! We had no way of testing that, oddly enough. Tremendously reassuring. You just scratched a big one off the list.

Have you any need of someone's first-borne child? It seems an appropriate compensation.

Probably not a bad thing to bury some of the older threads

There are threads on here that have had more resurrections than Dracula

From what you're saying, I think it's the problem some of us stumbled upon and possibly sorted out a little earlier. At this stage, it appears that anyone who does does not select the "stay logged in" gets logged out when they click "home". We're currently evaluatuing whether we want that to remain. Personally, I don't believe there is any value to that, but maybe someone will have some insightful thoughts about that.

Well, I clicked the "stay logged in" option and still it logs me out when hitting "Home".
I think it has to do with the "www" thing. Perhaps you just have to correct the link or something.

Whoa! That's a revelation! Everything works fine for me, but the site owner is monitoring this thread, and when she tested what you just said it did not work for her either. Definitely back to the drawing board here; this one seemed easy, but evidently there's something we're missing.

Thank you. So much of this is very difficult to reliably test, but when reports come in from live users, it tells us that there's something ain't quite going to plan. Thank you!

    Always the little things....

Noted; and this is fixable. Another admin is working that one now, but I believe it is relatively straightforward. I agree that this is very valuable, and I'm sure it's something we can do in Xen. Might take a plug-in. but we will find it. Thanks for the observation!

Could dedicate like a "Front Page" type board for something like this.

I'm sure traffic in those areas would cause a running banner, or teletype style to move @ just under Mach 1.3

    EDIT:

There's likely a version already running on the Admin. Pannel.

I'm embarrassed to admit i don't know. I can't find the setting in Xenforo, and with admin status I have unlimited permissions to edit. But yes, I should know that. I think it is an hour, but I will create a test account and check. Please give me some time to do that; I will check.

Of course, if anyone has direct experience, that'd be welcome. But either way, I'm curious now, and will investigate.

I'd prefer it if the Edited by tag didn't show up at all. I don't really see the point of it,

Yes. I punted this to the site owner, and she is going to resolve it. I will bookmark this post, and report back when I can comfortably state the status.

Well I clicked the "forgot password" option and it sent another one to my email, but the problem with that is that it was an old email address and one I haven't used in a long time so Yahoo doesn't recognize it anymore. I got a feeling that I may have shot myself in the foot on that one.

I have at a my forum a database, since 1999th year. Also happens sometimes VERY interestingly, to look that wrote and what people thought 10-15 years ago of. Or to look how they reacted to these or those memorable events. Or even to find simply old news — on the Internet in such period a lot of things disappear...

After clicking on.. New Posts, the list of posts has a problem where the 2nd line of each post is almost unreadable due to the font not being dark enough. The "date" of that same line is even lighter. Please consider making the "date" the same color font as the rest of the line and make the entire line about 2 shades darker. TY --pete--

Well, it does have some value. Let's say your post said, "Dark Star is a ****, and I m going to train my goats to masturbate in his garden."

Then, I respond by saying (without quoting you) "keep your goats away from my flowers or I will attack them and bite their throats, and maybe yours too." Which, of course, would at least be a defensible reply under the circumstances. Not necessarily rational, but at least explianable.

So - you then edit your original post to say, "Dark Star is a terrific guy, but I don't understand why he always seems obsessed with the concept of sexually disturbed goats. I just want to be his friend, and my goats love him, but he always seems so angry whenever we visit. Wonder what his real issue his... "

Well, ya know, I'm going to seem like Ed Gein and Charles Manson rolled into one. You could make me seem like a raging lunatic, obsessed with correcting bizarre and perverted goat injustices. However, if there were some indication that you had edited your original post, people reading it might say, "hey, wait a minute. how do we know for sure he really said that?" Absent the indication that it had perhaps been substantively edited, many people would accept your supposedly original post as gospel, and probably file commitment papers on my behalf. At the very least, nobody would ever take me seriously again.

OK, granted, an extreme example. But it was fun to type, and IMO still a valid analogy. People need to own their words... if they want to change them later, that's fine, and perfectly reasonable. But there should be a public record that they made at least some change to them, so that people understand that this wasn't what they originally said - in case they make some attempt to claim they said something else. Considering how testy some of the debates are here, I think it's a good thing that the "edited by" feature holds people somewhat accountable for saying what they said.

Man, that's humbling. But truthfully, I think we're maybe just sort of average, and we know that - so we take the kind of precautions that people wouldn't have to take if they were genuinely smart.

I just tried this : logged in without the www part to politicalforum.com and it doesn't log me out when going to home page and such. May be the problem is that I had the www.politicalforum.com in my bookmarks and it conflicted the "non-www" as it is now. Just a thought, I'm not so into the www-http thing. ;)

If you have video of that goat thing, you'd likely break the Interwebz uploading it.

And with even worse results, in all honesty.

You're right - in most cases, once something is dead it's best left buried. I just hate to permanently "lose" threads that had good discussions in them. Even if they don't get revived, I want people to be able to dig 'em up and admire them. In some cases, who knows? That particular thread may contain one post that some individual member considers the best piece of writing he or she has ever done. We don't know! The way I see it is that they honored us by sharing it with us, and we owe it to them to preserve it and make it available to whatever extent is feasible.

So, yeah, it's a narrow balance to walk sometimes. I just feel - generally speaking - that once someone hits the "submit" button, it is our duty to preserve their words. I know it sounds naive, but once someone has said something, it is not our place to "un"say it. I do not believe that is what we are here for. We are not here to decide what someone says, but to facilitate it and allow others to decide whether it has merit. That's why I hate deleting posts, unless they're really beyond the pale.

So to that end, I want to ensure that we restore every archived post. I think we can... sometimes it doesn't work out perfectly, but I think it's reasonable to shoot for that. Some people put a lot of effort into their posts, and i believe we owe that to them. We'll just see what we can do, and how well it works out.

A crypt section which allows for FrankenThreads to be viewed, yet not edited or replied to would be cool.
