If you can't be bothered to use a search engine, I can't help you. Presenting ID to use the bathroom is ok with the small government conservatives. Thankfully, laws like these only happen in southern bible thumper states full of ignorant hicks.

Yeah, same silliness for the absurd laws that prohibit people from having sex on a public beach, or people from defecating on city sidewalks. What nonsense, right? I spit on their fragile sensitivities! If people don't want to see freakshows in public bathrooms or on public beaches they should stay at home! The only exception, of course, is religious talk. We definitely need to stop people from talking about their religion or morality. I love it when we get people fired for talking about that stuff. Sooner or later everyone will get the message.

What are you saying? I did use a search engine and linked the result in this thread. Admit it, you assumed this was taken recently in North Carolina and you were wrong to assume in this case.

So using the bathroom in the privacy of a bathroom stall is the same as defecating in the street or having sex in public?

That the standard you want to stick by?

Then back up your claims as there has been no evidence provided in this thread on where this happened...

You're ok with police checking ID's before using the bathroom?

Typical of social conservatives to focus on the insignificant while ignoring the substance of what is going on.

Is there a moving the goalposts emoticon here? You said this happened in North Carolina. Prove it.

As for showing ID to take a leak...that's stupid but that's not why you got called out.

It's possible to have a reasonable discussion about this without misrepresenting my point, that point being that civility and decency are the source behind a number of laws, including ones that separate men from women in bathrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms. It's one thing for a girl to dress like a boy or for a man to decide he wants to be a woman; it's another thing altogether to require all the rest of society to accommodate and adapt to these individuals' self-determined claims of status. We all have to compromise a little bit for the public good, and so can they.

I understand the ludicrous strawman quite well. Have fun with it.

You still have not shown what harm letting transgendered use bathrooms does to the public. You have to do that before we can even start talking public good.

Instead I pointed out that people having sex in public or defecating on the sidewalk also do not cause harm to the public. In some countries those behaviors are not only legal but they are socially acceptable. I'm not arguing from the position of what harm might come from this, I'm arguing from the position that we are a civilized society and with that come laws of public decency. It used to be true that such laws were unnecessary because social norms were enough to keep people from behaving inappropriately, but as the population grew and people became more inclined to test boundaries, we as a society had to figure out what lines we didn't want crossed. Public sex and public defecation are two of them. Having consideration for others in a public bathroom setting, where people sometimes go to deal with more than mere bladder relief, is as valid a subject as any for maintaining civility.

So again, you are arguing that using a bathroom stall is an affront to public decency on par with sex in public or (*)(*)(*)(*)ting in the street?

Two things don't have to be "on par" with one another in order for them to share the same rationale for validity. Sex in public is far more offensive and deserves a worse penalty than violating social norms in bathrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms.

Let's say a guy grows up exclusively around women. Say he's raised by his mom and an aunt, he has five sisters, and they live in a rural setting with few neighbors. He's comfortable around women, but not around men. So when he visits a department store and wants to try clothes on in the women's changing room, should the store and all of the other customers be required to accommodate him and his unique preferences? Or should he get over his personal comforts and get used to changing around men?

Considering nearly every place I've been to the changing rooms are individual stalls and unisex?

Great. Now open that narrow mind a bit and imagine there are actually clothing stores where you haven't been, where they have men's changing rooms separate from women's changing rooms. If that's too much of a stretch, consider gyms where they have women's locker rooms and men's locker rooms. Same question could be applied there. The bottom line is when does an entire group need to adapt to accommodate an individual's preferences, and when does the individual need to adapt themselves to mesh with society?

This does nothing to answer my question on who's feelings trumps the others. What do you perceive the person in the video to be, a trans man, a butch lesbian, something else? From what I have seen reported she is a butch lesbian, if that be the case are you arguing that she should use the men's room? Do you think that gay men should use the women's room?

The LGBT brought this on themselves, I am glad they are paying a price.

In a nut shell. If one presents themselves as a guy then p*iss in the Men's room. If that makes the "butch" lesbian/transgender uncomfortable then so be it. Why should "Butch" discomfort others? If you want to be "Male" then p*iss with the rest you identify with.

Do you agree the dems have made one Hell of a slippery slope here?

Really, not in Tampa...but most likely that will have to change to accommodate the small fringe. Thanks Dems.

By that logic a feminine gay man should use the woman's room.

Which brings us full circle back to the yet to be answered question of who's discomfort trumps who's? What of the men in the men's bathroom who feel uncomfortable with a butch lesbian in the men's room?

Thus if one is a feminine gay man he should use the woman's room. What about women who are uncomfortable with the presence of a feminine gay man in the woman's restroom?

As an independent I say that some conservatives are making a mountain out of a molehill. Tolorance of harmless action is the position I take. We have no right to comfort outside our own home. The more intolerant one is the more drama one will have in their life, the more tolerant one is the more peace one will have in their life.

Your logic is skewed in regard to my take on this issue. When I say "presents" I am referring to looking the part. If no one other than one's own mother can tell that a woman is really a man and/or vice versa then use the bathroom you identify with. Don't have the luxury to pick whichever bathroom you feel more comfortable with at any given moment. As the saying goes...Can't have your cake and eat it too. note: never really got that statement but hopefully you get my point.
