Are you saying CHina is going to race way ahead of us? Are you saying we're being left behind in the tech sector? Just checking. Could you cite where we're being left in the dust please? Which Chinese companies are inventing amazing things the rest of the world hasn't? Be honest please. And what is my "ilk"....people who live in reality land?

That's the first thing I was thinking when I heard about this... Hmm, would it be quality built enough to even make it here? You could probably launch an 80's made toy from a cannon and it would still be in tact after it landed a mile away. But take a high dollar toy made today from the same country and step on it by accident and it's destroyed.

For the sake of my kids, make toys great again.

Not sure, I've never heard that Japan made crap stuff. I always recalled quality products from America and Japan. China must throw tons of people in sweatshops and use cheap labor for cheap quality nowadays.

The scary thing about China is they don't have diversity weighing them down

And they're too smart to buy into diversity nonsense

    I don't know what you're talking about .

In the last eight years, the US staged a steady recovery from the worst economic collapse since 1929. The stock market has doubled. Unemployment dropped to historic lows. A fracking boom, that the Obama administration wisely chose not to restrain, has assured us steady oil prices. The price of wind and solar power has dropped through the floor and are now increasingly competative with legacy technologies. We were aiming toward the future.

Instead, we have a president who talks about coal mines and blast furnaces, and preaches isolationism. His foreign policy could have been written by Henry Cabot Lodge in 1920.

He routinely kowtows to oil interests, dismisses science and technology, and puts pathetically unqualified cronies in key policy making decisions.

The United States is a great country. But a man like Trump will make this a large, isolated and backward one faster than many people think.

Already our European and Asian allies are working on a vision of a world without the "one indespensible nation". Russia applauds, because weakening America and undermining its position as the leader of the free world has been their principal foreign policy goal since Stalin's time.

Now they have a useful idiot who is all to willing to do it for them.

Of course it is! Are you that parochial?

We are not behind in the tech sector, but the Chinese are catching up rapidly.

The dominate the solar panel industry and make most of the word's cell phones. The computer you're typing on was probably made there.

There are more Buicks sold in China than in the US.

The real power of China (as was the real power in the US ) is the size of its domestic market.

With a population more than four times ours, and a rapidly expanding middle class, it is inevitable that China will pass the US as the world's largest consumer market.

China is taking steps to deal with that growth by creating a series of trade alliances all through the fastest growing economies on the planet, at exactly the same time Donald Trump abruptly quits the effort to do the same and leaves the free trade playing field to our largest economic rival.

The answer is going to be reforming our education system to keep up with the competition in the long run. I am not sure loans are the answer and if education continues to become a financial burden on the population expect the technology gap to keep growing as countries like China and India keep pumping out graduates. If money is to much of a problem, we can always let another country educate their population for free and send the graduates here to take our medicinal, engineering, and other education demanding careers like they have slowly been doing. The government should be spending money on education in some form or another and the payback will be the production and innovation of the population.

A fracking boom is right... Boomed everybody right out of business. I don't know one single person who didn't get laid off during this fracking boom. Not one, and I spent a decade in the oilfield, my dad had been in it since 1976 so we know lots and lots of people and not a single person survived that boom you speak of. I don't know where you get your news but it's got to be from a satire left wing site. The steady recovery you speak of was less than a percent annually, and your comment about unemployment is as laughable as your fracking boom remark.

Russia has a useful idiot now?

I'm sure that video was debunked, too, like everything else that negatively impacts your corrupt party.

I wonder how much of this technology they got from Clinton era deals and then took to the next level.

Flashback: Bill Clinton gave China missile technology

According to Tom, like everything that negatively reflects on democrats, that's been debunked. Even if it's documented in the White House files, it's been debunked. You can count on it.

Dismiss them at your own peril. In my field, scientific breakthroughs from China are more and more common. Here is just one example:

    http://english.cas.cn/bcas/2016_2/201607/P020160722472313859469.pdf

I've also has one of my Chinese postdocs go back to China and become very successful. This is much more common that Chinese students don't want to stay here anymore, but rather go back to China, because the infrastructure and conditions for scientific research are getting better and better.

A dislike of Trump doesn't reflect zero respect for America and American culture.

Trump does not exemplify Americans or American culture. Trump is an uncultured liar who is perverting the ethics and morals of America.

What's common sense in this case? Taxing students on $20,000 they don't make? Doesn't seem like common sense to me, unless you purposefully want to hurt higher education.

Trump's been president for 9 months and yet somehow it's his fault? I wasn't aware all of our scientists were controlled by the government, you obviously do, but it would explain the GW scam.
