China has been stealing our technology for over 50 years. Those bumbling fools would still be in the dark ages if it wasn't for American technology.

Dude, I think Trump's an idiot, but you complain incessantly about the United States of America. Example:
Now tell me you were only talking about Trump.

You know the difference between MADE and DESIGNED. There is so much MADE in China because their people work like slaves by our standards, so the world builds a lot there because its cheap. THAT's it. They don't do it better. They do it CHEAPER. VERY little is designed there and what is, has been out right STOLEN or copied. Look up China's patent stealing strategy. It would make your head spin.

And they're growing fast because look at where they're coming from and they have over a billion people. And take a guess how quickly everything there can turn to hell once those people become more educated and informed. They have an incredibly ignorant and uninformed populace, due to complete control over information. They send some over here to become educated and bring it back there, much like their birthing trips they take here. Are you aware of those? Most normal people won't travel while pregnant, because you know...DANGER. Doesn't stop 1000s from flying over, giving birth, then flying home. Care to guess why they're doing that?

As far as those cell phones made in China...they're utter garbage as is just about any piece of electronics that doesn't have US standards...for example, Apple.

    I'm not dismissing them.

Hey... I thought we were pals?

I wonder if 50 years of subterfuge and theft of U.S. technological and intelligence secrets gave them any advantage? Nah, it was all Chinamen using Chinese text books that created this genius explosion.

Of course when the next Star Wars movie comes out one can be sure they can purchase a pirated dvd version in Shanghai much faster than ordering one on Amazon.

well when every republican and rwer complains about spending money in research science, it is difficult to move ahead. all they do is complain about taxes and their money which has been going on for 2 decades.

if you want to win the tech war, you will need to spend money and take chances.

The US govt wastes 10s of billions a year in useless ventures and programs. You don't see anyone complaining about relevant research, no matter where is leads.

This subject has raised a hornet's nest of right-wing extremist outrage.

The realization that China is accelerating its technology evolution just doesn't hit the awareness button of rednecks. One only has to look at the online sales sites to understand the growing dominance of China, and to understand that they are accelerating product development and shortening the time from inception to market for their products.

However, we see only what China allows us to see. There is probably much secret activity in technology screened from public view.

China has more electric cars than the USA.

Perhaps if China dominated beer technology it would be cause for rednecks to demand war.

Would anyone can to link to any proof that china is ahead of the US in any area of science?

No claim with zero backing but proof would be nice.

Oh if a nation have very very fast super computers there would be zero repeat zero need for fast physical wind tunnels as the flow of super fast air around a body can be mathematically model by using super fast computers far better and cheaper then by using real wind tunnels.

So it is one or the other fast wind tunnels or fast computers it can not be both other then using real wind tunnels to rarely confirm the computer models

Every person should pay the same tax rate with no exemptions for anything

Which among other things means an end to the wealth redistribution scheme known as the EITC

Such proof would be difficult as neither country would expose tits technology for the purposes of such a comparison.

The fact that china is a growing threat to the US seems to amuse you even more than it bothers US conservatives

China is a threat economically, not militarily. While USA is retreating from international economic engagement China is expanding its economic engagement, especially in Asia, Africa, and South America.

China is a military threat because its growing economy gives them the money for a military

So, grad students should pay money for monies they never receive? Doesn't seem fair to me. What do you know about graduate education? I am grad admissions director in our program, so I know the details.

That's not what I took from what he said.

He was talking about right wing denial, which there has been a lot of on this thread.

Of course, the right wing solution (a la Trump) is to build a wall around the US and isolate it from the big bad world, so the trailer park crowd can go in insisting that they're number one, while the rest of the world ignores them and passes them by.

I wasn't thinking about China as much as I was thinking about technological change, something right wingers repeatedly dismiss.

That might apply to China but the US has always been very open concerning basic technology.

Why not? Well it not wealth or population it the culture of the society that matter and judging from our track record in every field of science and technology no one had come near matching us for a hundred years or so.

From electric lights to the internet to landing on the moon it was our culture that lead the way.

Get back to me if China or anyone else begin to match us.
