Conservatives support practical technological PROGRESS as long its affordable

Liberals expect government to subsidize their new toys like solar panels made in china

And hopefully that injustice will come to an end with the new tax bill

Government subsidized the commercial airline industry, created a patent pool that served as an incubator for radio and television, and was the principal (often the only) customor for the computer industry for nearly three decades.

    Conservatives like to forget that.

Virtually none of the technologies that defined the industrial era came into full use without government subsidy or investment.

Nah you don't get it, nobody on the left does.

Crying racist at everybody who votes Republican is why the left lost.

You guys haven't figured out that we're done with being demonized by you people.

Your words have no power anymore.

We took them from the left and correctly applied them to the left.

Off hand I cant say that china has been a technological leader during the past 500 years

But the polential is there for china to be the next superpower economically which translates into technological achievement and military power

China is graduating more engineers than America and that alone should worry you

Government built airports that benefited commercial airlined but did not give them spending money to buy airplanes

But liberals are giving money directly to solar energy companies and helping their customers pay for the solar panels

Without even drmanding that the panels are built in America

    How stupid is that?

Sorry they are mainly civil engineers working on China infrastructure similar to what west point product in the beginning of our nation.

Useful people but not something anyone outside China need to worry about.

It's military spending, not defense spending. Defense is when you are under attack.

Defense failed during the 9/11 incident and the military men who failed were all promoted. The US failed to get bang for its buck.

So what? So they can develop a weapon system that reaches the west coast of America in 14 minutes? And America could launch an SLBM from Ohio/Columbia-class ballistic missile submarine, parked 500 miles off the coast of China that could reach them in a couple minutes.
If China launched ICBM's, it would only take about 30 minutes or so reach America today as is. Unless they have a weapons system that takes out ALL of America (including it's ENTIRE retaliatory capability) in a minute or two...then they would be obliterated by an American counter strike.
And why would they launch the missile in the first place? Just to have America destroy them in return?
People keep forgetting...MAD works. Always has, probably always will.

It is not the American mainland that should worry about this - it's the Navy and their beloved aircraft carriers that should worry.
I have said for a while - aircraft carriers are becoming vulnerable and obsolete.
And this potential weapon is yet another reason why.

    1) You're notoriously anti-American.
    2) You laud China without ever saying a negative word about what they are doing, how they got there or where they are going.

Dude, Defense spending is about the only serious R&D program the US has. The NASA budget is about 0.5% of the Federal budget. As the chart below shows, entitlement spending is the largest chunk of the Federal budget. As our population continues to age, that spending will increase. So support China all you like and ridicule the US all you like, but the problem we are facing isn't defense spending, it's spending too much on non-productive members of society and not enough on our future.

China is getting more bang for its buck. Palm-greasing, pork-barreling, and other acts of corruption are diluting and polluting US research.

In fact China is on a hiring spree for international researchers and patent holders.

    China leads in university graduates.

Yes, everyone knows you love China and hate the US. You have a blind eye for what China does yet are quick to complain about the US.

    EXECUTIONS IN CHINA
    [IMG]
Receiving a death sentence verdictExecutions are carried out by hanging, shooting in the back of the head or lethal injection. In many years there are several times more reported executions in China than the rest of the world combined. Even then according to Amnesty International: "Only a fraction of death sentences and executions carried out in China are publicly reported." The annual toll is not released and is treated as a state secret.

These days many executions are carried out with a lethal injection as opposed to gunshots. Executions generally take place in specialized chambers or vans, away from public view. In 2009, the city of Beijing began using lethal injections in the execution of condemned prisoners instead of shooting them. In January 2008, the Chinese government announced it would expand the use of lethal execution and phase out executions by gunshot.

Severe punishments have traditionally been regarded as a warning, summed by the old Chinese saying "killing a chicken to scare the monkeys." During the Cultural Revolution executions were often performed in public, and Chinese citizens were often forced to watch as "a form of solidarity with the people against the people's enemies."

On August 30, 1983, 30 convicted criminals were executed in a sports stadium before a cheering crowd of 60,000 people. In the 1970s some executions were broadcast on prime time television. Even today there are mass sentencing rallies and public executions.

There have been cases of innocent people being executed. Defendants who face the death penalty are often denied their rights. In one case involved a migrant worker who killed four people the ruling on his appeal was done by the same judge who made the initial ruling.

A suspended death sentence is usually commuted to life imprisonment after two years if the person shows good behavior. This can later be reduced to 20 years or less with good behavior. In 2007 prisoners that received these “death penalties with reprieves” outnumbered prisoners that were executed.

Studies seem to indicate that the threat of capital punishment does little to deter crime. The official position in China is that someday China will abolish the death penalty but that "conditions aren't right" to do so now.

The Quantum satellite is indeed interesting and when they get to the point of doing anything useful with it let me know.

Oh Edison is indeed the inventor of not only the first practical light bulb but also the complete hardware system needed to allow the replacement of gas lighting with electric lighting from the hard vacuum bulbs, to low impedance generators, to fuses and everything in between.

How does China stack up against US statistics of unarmed people killed by US police?

Military spending to defeat enemies that don't exist? How much of that "defense spending" went to ISIS?

More money will disappear down the military spending rabbit hole like the $ 3 trillion Rumsfeld reported missing from Pentagon days before 9/11?

I'm sure you will give more of your opinion about how the US is the worst nation in the world and how great the People's Republic of China is for everyone.
