Just contacted the ATF about "Moonshiners" episode

Not to mention half the **** they say they do is not right. It's not even right the wrong way. Anyone that tries to make ethanol the way they do on this show will end up with a bunch of wasted money.

Not so much. There's a lot of misinformation about how much methanol is in the heads. Say you do a run of corn mash through a VM reflux tower and mix all the heads and hearts together. Let's assume a proof of 180. Take 1 oz from that run and a 1 oz shot of store bought orange juice. There will be more methanol from the orange juice.

The story about tainted liquor came from prohibition. The biggest supply of illicit ethanol came from stolen industrial alcohol. In an attempt to stem consumption the government ordered that all industrial alcohol be denatured with methanol, kerosene and some other stuff. Then never told anyone about it.

Industrial alcohol kept getting stolen and sold. Then when the bootleggers finally found out what was going on they tried to distill out the bad stuff. Thing is you can't "renature" ethanol through distillation alone. Distilling it will not remove the additives.

Distilleries will actually add specific amounts of heads and tails to achieve a desired flavor.

 

So, to sum this thread up, New York liberal tries to attack who he believes are his right-wing "flyover country" enemies.

 

This was a politically motivated action.

 

To technical for me If I'm looking for that sort of ass whooping I just buy a fifth of everclear and make a screew driver, in this state it's 190 proof, plenty of horse power! And works really well for cannabis leeching too

 

I make a couple different types (in my state it's rather easy to do legally as long as you are not trying to sell it) I don't make stuff just for high proof. I like messing around with the various grain bills and aging techniques. Hell some types of mash produce no methanol at all. Rum for example when you only use sugar and molasses will produce no methanol or acetone.

Don't know much about cannabis other than it makes me plant roots. If I'm gonna do something I want to be able to function.

Last time I smoked I ended up sitting at a picnic table in the smoking ares of one of the bars in town in the rain for like 5 hours. It was kinda cool. My head felt almost like a Coke high. Like i was hyper aware. But couldn't manage to stand up to go inside.

The vast majority of "reality" tv is not reality, but scripted. No way the production company behind "Moonshiners" could explode anything without pulling permits, etc..

Do people think Street Outlaws actually shows illegal street races? Just enjoy the drama, but certainly, suspend reality first.

People need to get a bit more discerning about what they watch, and what is real.

I imagine the writers and producers had to put their heads together to see where to take the story in order to hold an audience.

 

So, people making illegal alcohol and selling it without a tax stamp and the Op is whining about a product purchased legally being used illegally for a reality show that has to get permits and is scripted?
