    They were threatening and reinforcing and moving guns to Ft. Sumter which South Carolina and the Confederacy considered a breach of faith and a military impediment from a foreign government and then of course the Union blockaded the entire Confederate coast.

    They blockaded the coast AFTER the Confederacy invaded sovereign US territory.

    Is the US government not allowed to defend its military bases?

    no misconception, the southern confederates wanted slavery to remain legal, the north did not - the Confederate lost, that is how they should be remembered, not put on pedestals in the center of town as heroes

    My great-grandparents were immigrants from Norway, Sweden, Finland, England, Germany, and the Netherlands. I knew one of them, from Sweden. All arrived at Ellis Island and lived in NYC.

    They survived very well.
