    Agree.
They will ride public opinion. And likely change, if they're smart, not a guarantee, if public opinion changes.

Do you recall a time when this country has not had an Electoral College, which ultimately decides the presidency?

To decide the presidency by popular plebiscite would put a few blue states--notably, New York, California, and Illinois--in charge of everything. No more significant input from "flyover country."

    But you already knew that.

The Democrats have won the popular vote, yet lost the electoral vote, in two of the past five elections. And they are butthurt about it.

    Aren't they?

They likely want to signal their virtue internationally. Life is too short to learn German.

LOL, weak, childish, lame.... Trump made an offer that is win-win-win for absolutely everyone, for the country, for federal workers, for their families, for DACA people, for TPS people, for the country. An offer with absolutely no downside... and Pelosi turned it down.

So keep bleating your "but Trump said this, but Trump said that" ludicrous pathetic gibberish. We know you are desperate to justify why an amazing offer was rejected, and you know this as well as we do.

    Call it whatever you want.

That leaves the matter of Mr Trump's "big beautiful wall", a monument to the fear and bigotry of its supporters.

It's a golden calf for losers.

We live in the land of the brave and the free. And the brave and the free don't cower in fear of brown people.

Well of course the Democrats are to blame, which is why some are leaving.. They turned down the offer before they even knew what was in it and the moderate leftists understand that the public will understand that also. The Democrats have to get some serious leadership, and candidates, in order to become a national party again.

The Senate needs 60 votes, otherwise they'd use the 'nuclear option'. The betting is that some Dems will vote for it and abandon both Chuck and Nancy.

    I already accepted your concession.
More ad hom praise from you is flattering. But not necessary.

Trump says he would be 'proud' to shut down the government over border wall funding
    blob:https://www.latimes.com/ce709103-2f04-4db7-b713-0f213aa74b40

“We have to have a wall. … I will take the mantle of shutting it down. I will shut it down for border security,” Trump said during the encounter, in which the leaders exchanged political barbs with cameras rolling.

Odd you'd come here to debate and know nothing about the topic.

You keep forgetting that the Dems like to vote the will of the people. Check the polls out again and get back to us.

I'm not sure Nancy ever lost a vote she cared about when she had the majority. Maybe you can think of one?

Trump originally requested about 18 billion for the wall so has changed what he wants based on the Border Patrol and Homeland Security needs.

If anyone wants to see what the democrats are against, go on YouTube and watch the Border Patrol roundtable with Trump.

Make DACA permanent and it might go some place.

Actually, there is no filibuster on budget bills. Not that it matters. The House will not take the measure up.

    Exactly.

Either Trump caves or The Shutdown lasts until 2021.

Personally, I would like to see sensible, comprehensive immigration reform, not based upon campaign hoopla by a candidate with no experience whatsoever in such matters who hyped a big, beautiful wall that Mexico would pay for to bar his xenophobic scare-tactic rapists, drug dealers, and other such nasties.

Define objectives and assess the most cost-effective ways to institute a coherent policy that takes advantage of technology to surveil the entire border 24/7 to achieve interdiction, design and fund an efficient method of processing asylum seekers, track those who enter the US via visas and their status at the time those those visas expire,
issue work permits to the millions of law-abiding undocumented workers essential to so many American businesses, etc.

Appoint a commission of security and other appropriate experts independent of politics to study the matter and publicly issue an informed report on the best way to achieve the desired goals.

Let Americans decide if they want to take that expert advise.

    Nope.

It's up to Trump. Having been burned one too many times by the clown in the White House, McConnell won't move anything that Trump won't agree too first.

I think the parties should actually force the filibuster. Not just pay lip service. Then we'll see just how important an issue actually is.
