Only the ignorant and bigoted people think that way. Religion is individual in most cases, where each person's view and relationship with the higher power as they see it is unique. The only exception may be Islam- but the definition of Islam as a religion is questionable, because it is highly political, highly discriminatory and promotes hate and harm as a cult would, making it's people subjects under control instead of people choosing values.

What one person sees in another as proper religious conduct depends on what THEIR particular definition is- meaning, "If they don't think like I think, they aren't religious". That's bigoted, biased hogwash; assuming your own belief IS the statement of god- and that damn sure isn't humble, let alone the sign of a genuinely religious person. A genuinely religious person is not interested in getting religious approval from you- only from the the higher power he believes in. "Humbling" yourself before others is not the same as seeing yourself as humble before your god- instead, it is usually pandering, groveling to get approval. In this case,Buttigieg is demanding Trump grovel before him, to get his approval. How righteous of him.

Well this is a ridiculous conversation. At what point was it determined that you are the arbiter of who is and who is not a Christian? Who are you to judge who is Christian and who is not? I pay more taxes than you (I can assure you), so any justification there as to whether or not that's a legitimate form of Christianity (giving unto Caesar), I beat you there. I also sponsor three children through World Vision... have been doing so for decades, well before I had any money. I probably give more to "liberal" foundations than you do (Arbor Day, National Wildlife Foundation, etc.).

You say your name is Carlos... so I can only assume you're Hispanic. I then "assume" that you were possibly Catholic at some point since 97% of South and Central America is Catholic. Maybe you're no longer because... whatever... I don't care. But if you were a Christian at any real point you'd understand that the ONLY justification for being Christian is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Furthermore, there is an acceptance that by the very nature of who we are, we are sinners and flawed.

To say that I MUST do every single thing the Bible tells me, or I'm not a Christian, is the most absurd and down-right retarded argument I've ever seen in my life. Literally no one with any real brains has ever suggested as such. I guarantee that I dedicate far more of my life to helping people than you do. Part of me being a Christian is the understanding that I have to try to live to be the best person I can for humanity and society. I make my decisions with that in mind. I know... unequivocally, that humans are lazy by nature. Feeding into a welfare / entitlement society (which you very much espouse) is the absolute WORST thing you can do for humanity. Not only does it NOT help people, but it actually makes people more ignorant, more subservient, less productive, and more self-centered... thus creating a society that believes they are owed something, rather than the feeling that they need to give back.

You're idea of Christianity (or whatever you are, don't really care), is to let someone else take care of problems that exist (Government), rather than you actually getting your hands dirty or having any kind of expense come from your own budget.

There's a general common sense rule that I espouse... there's two things:

1 - Take care of those who are UNABLE to take care of themselves.
2 - Empower people to help themselves.

For #1, any grown adult male or female has no business being on welfare, at all. Barring any psychological or physical disorders, they are equally competent in any capacity to work.

For #2, taking in the world's poor (we are the largest destination for immigration) neither helps us, and it does not help them. What we need to do is offer support and guidance for countries to help themselves... offer trade initiatives, or provide VISA work programs... but simply taking in enormous masses of people who immediately will begin to draw from our budget, is not only absurd, but incredibly irresponsible.

The ONLY reason Democrats want mass illegal immigration is because they hope to convert them to future voters (either long-term, or immediately through illegal votes). All of us here know this... even you.

EXACTLY. The government bureaucrat doesn't "care" about the poor. He cares about his job, his vacation time, his next raise, his pension, his early retirement date....I know because I have a number of them in my family.

You have illuminated the hypocrisy of those virtue signaling self-righteous clowns who claim to care so much, but don't do anything to sacrifice their own time, money or effort to help those they care so much about. Like the climate hoaxers who hector the rest of us to live like 17th century peasants to stop "global warming" yet live in multiple mansion, travel in private jets and limousines and make no personal sacrifice of their own personal private individual comfort to contribute to the cause.

There was a university study a few years ago that showed that people in high tax, big government states were far less likely to volunteer to community service organizations or donate to charity or do anything to help the needy. Yet, people in low tax, low service states (e.g. Alabama, Texas, Kansas, Montana, etc.) even though their incomes were lower, tended to give a much larger percentage to charity, to volunteer for Kiwanis, and other community service groups or help with charitable functions through their churches. And they were much happier people as a result.

We have some that do not understand that they are not in charge of the poor. Those who do not understand they are not in charge of the poor are mad that the government does not listen to them.

The American people will not permit any type of libertarian philosophy of how to take care of the poor.

Those who insist taxation is 'theft' are criminals in the making, against American law and against Christian teaching.

My understanding is that Trump is a born again Christian, which is the equivalent of a fuffnick Christian. He decides that God has absolved
him of all his past rip-offs and he is free to roam again from the beginning. And roam he has, ya?

    Foolardi's comment address nothing.

The Pope is very humble, even like Mother Teresa, compared to Trump's ego.

Look no further than how every Democratic Presidential candidate
is prostrating themselves by Kissing the ring of Al Sharpton.
At this weeks annual National Action Network confab.
Sharpton asked each one,If President, would they sign a bill giving
    Reparations to Blacks.
This from a guy who belongs in Prison for numerous Shake-downs
    and tax evasions.

This Pope is the antithesis of a Mother Teresa you stoogeling.
Mother Teresa never Proselytized and bent over backward
with dire warnings about the evils of Abortion.
Even though Francis opposes Abortion he is a lame thinker.
Stating this in regards to the sin of Homosexuality :
" Sin is an act ,of thought, word and deed, with freedom.
Tendencies are not sin.If you have a tendency to anger it is
    not a sin. "
What a ridiculous statement. So If a husband has a tendency to lie
to his wife,or even smack her around a bit because his job angers
    him,it should be Ok.
Plus Homosexuality is Manifestly a Deed. The very definition of what
    constituted a Homosexual.The Deed,
Unless some can name for me a Homosexual that is :
    Asexual

When I think of Trump, Christian is most certainly not the first thing that comes to mind, if at all. No. The first thing that comes to mind is, well what else...SKANK!

I appreciate your lengthy statement and think we have more in common than not. First off, I always end up apologizing when posting religious-oriented threads as it reveals my self-righteous prone persona. As Catholic, I am deeply embarrassed by the scandal of abuse on innocent children of God. A former seminarian myself I realized the pressure to maintain celibacy can result in alcoholism/ moral collapse even among young priests desperately lonely. Having a brother-in-law who is a Lutheran priest exposed me to other Christians who ordain gay priests/ female clergy and perform same-sex marriages. The local Lutheran bishop and previous Episcopal bishop are Gay, for example.

Francis, like all popes/ bishops, is responsible for shepherding Christians. Trump is putting pressure on Christians to denounce his actions in ways that no other president has required. There is no question that Trump is deeply troubled and morally compromised. To debate this is silly. I can't imagine that you or nearly every poster on PF would behave in such a manner. This is why Americans encourage Republicans to challenge/ confront Trump like Romney and scores of others.

No, SBC at 15 million, RCC at over 70 million in the USA.

SBC at around 700 confirmed victims, RCC at around 5000 confirmed victims.

Take Texas out of the election, and Hillary got more votes than Trump.

Trump, to his credit, has not yet destroyed Obama's Recovery, though Trump is trying to with shutting down borders and having trade wars.

I thought you were discussing world wide numbers, so thank you for that correction. The SBC is under reporting victims, I think, and the RCC is probably as well.

I do declare ... Trump would never allow that.
Even if Trump did shank a golf ball,he'd buy that Golf Course
and make sure it never happens again.

Yeah, i would say a lot of priests are homosexual, but I don't think that the majority of homosexual priests are pedolphiles any more that the rest of the homosexual population is. They were about 70,000 priests in 1965 and they figure 4% were evil monsters. About 2,500 priests in total. But that was not the greatest sin however evil and base in God's eyes and our own. The greatest sin was the Bishops and Cardinals who oversaw the deterioration
of the good work that the church provided citizens of this nation when the nation itself did not believe it was their responsibility to care for the weak and poor. Millions of us faithful Catholics were demoralized that our Bishops and Cardinals did nothing to protect us and protect the church from those vile priests.

    1. I agree that Christ's teachings were directed toward individuals for improving their ethical & moral lives along with their relationship with God. But Christianity as a religion, was adopted & officially sanctioned by the Roman Emperor in the early 300s AD. The Emperor himself made the Roman Catholic Church Papacy a powerful official of the Roman Empire & instructed the first Popes to do what they could thru the Church to unite the Roman people under the Emperor's direct rule. The thing about having a "human mediator" (the Priest or Church official), gave church authorities tremendous control over individual lives, & became a core part of Catholicism & Christianity for over 1,000 years, until the Protestant Reformation. Your post reflects one of many changes Protestants brought to Christianity as a whole.
    2. Catholics & Orthodox Christians have always been "political." Unfortunately, American evangelicals are too. I'm not sure which of Francis's political positions you regard as "antithetical to the teachings of the Bible." Could you elaborate on that aspect of your post?

Does the Commie Pope question the Christianity of those that support Infanticide? And the "Born Alive" legislation is going to be a big deal this election.

Off the subject but noteworthy in the history of early Christianity is the Ethiopian Orthodox church. A religious service for rapper, Nipsey Hussle [shot/ killed last week] was held at an Ethiopian church yesterday. Part of the Coptic Orthodox communion, their liturgy has Hebrew elements and sounds like Islamic chanting.

This is not the Nipsey Hussle service
