I totally agree that the "yes he exists, no he doesn't" arguments are destructive - that they can't possibly add to a meaningful conversation.

what would you expect from talking religion on a politics board, your gonna get many sides to the issue.... a Christian board would be more supportive of Christianity

faith is not based on logic, it's based on belief

most Atheists were raised Christian, and they just want their voices out there too

That wasn't what I was talking about. It seems like most of the atheists here can't have honest debate.

    Just taking cheap potshots.

We can only present evidence, and use logic (trying to be intellectually honest with ourselves), but there is also a personal evidence experience element to this.

Perhaps you would care to list which athiest arguements you can actually disprove and then of course give your proofs.

and if you had someone like Trump back then leading them, he could make up stories and they would become true for many... people tend to 'want' to believe some things - and of course many feared letting anyone know they did not believe their religious leaders - thus they would not want their children to know it was false and the children would grow up with a even stronger belief it was true

the guy (Abraham) who tried to kill his son then changed his mind was one great con artist imo, today we would put him in prison for attempted murder, that god told me too excuse would not fly, back then it did, and even made it into the bible

Of course since using " he" proves the ignorance of either side clueless enough to apply human gender terms to god.

    No we don't.

We are a Christian nation so why wouldn't we invoke God in certain places?

we are not a Christian nation

a good quote from another poster long ago

"We are no more a "Christian nation" because the majority are Christian than we are a "White nation" because the majority is White ~ Kalev"

Glad to see someone admit that we as a Christian nation have slaughtered hundred of thousands of civilians in the Middle East. Oh, wait. Watch the shuck and jive to come!

    Of course we are.

And yes we would be a white nation because most are white.

We are also a male nation because most are males.

    See how this works?

When those demographics change we will become something else.

The Bible is filled with Christians going to war.

You are now just learning this?

Really, what makes you say that?

Sounds like one giant deflect in this thread.

Why do atheists always seem to want to change the topic?

I think we could work to minimize that overlap - or mabe the impact of any overlap.

And how those all fit together exactly is an open question.

I think those who believe all of this will just naturally fit together are being a little naive.

This is another thread that's going nowhere fast.

Is that an intention, on the parts of atheists here, to make sure these threads go nowhere?

it is what America is about, we fled a Theocracy... let's not make America what we fled

Christian Theocracies are not just bad for non-Christians, they are bad for Christians too

People fled to America for individual freedom. That includes religion, but isn't just all about religion.

(And lets not forget it was originally different Christian sects coming to America, so we weren't talking religions that were that different from each other, and if the sect was too different, we saw how the young country treated Mormonism).
