Well, I'm not interested in trying to convince anyone that there isn't a supernatural (or that it's different than you think). In the US, you get to believe what you want.

Well if you accept the notion that we are a Christian nation then the death tolls alone from our wars are overwhelmingly convincing. How many civilians did our Christian nation kill in the world wars and Vietnam, and Iraq and Afganistan and the Civil war, etc, etc, etc.

Now we can argue who started the wars or who could have prevented them but the number killed by us as a Christian nation certainly match or exceed the numbers killed by any other religious nation.

Which is a disingenuous argument. And you know it.

Can we get back to topic now?

How many deaths did those wars ultimately prevent?

Adultery, one of the top ten commandments is legal in the USA and the President is on his 3rd wife

blasphemy is also legal, we are not a Christian nation

I'd be happy to have that discussion with you, but not here.

I'm not going to let the original topic get derailed.

Well we would have to first estimate how many of the killed would have had children. I guess those are the lives the wars prevented.

The original topic was "It's Stupid to Think Christianity is as Stupid as Some Skeptics Suppose"

Are we going to talk about core religious theology?
Maybe try to point out some intellectual doctrinal inconsistencies and discuss them?

Since the original OP was almost totally logically incoherent what do you think the original topic actually was?

Not mine. And I doubt you can find much support in the bible for massacring innocents unless of course you accept the Old Testanent as fact.

Viewing god in part as a father figure is an analogy used in the Bible.

I think people understand that I'm not arguing specifics like that.

What exactly does that have to do with religion killing people?

I was just implying that you don't really have many examples of non-religious societies not killing people either.

You mean it wasn't to you? A sad commentary on American education. But perhaps you would care to summarize the main points of the OP.

When did we ever go to war with the sole purpose of massacring innocents?

State religions deny indiviual choice. Keeping government secular is a strong concept. Forcing citizens to have specific views (or benefitting those who have a specific religious view) is not a good idea regardless of the counry or religion in question.

Declaring themselves to be a "Jewish State" has led Israel into being apartheid - officially denying equality before the law based on religion.

This is not a direction our founders were interested in.

I do think the blunders in the middle east sadly were partly to do with the faith of the Bush admin - we over-reacted - and that hurt us worse then 9-11 alone ever could of
