It seems as though all the Democrat Candidates for President want the U.S. to be just like this. Please read the whole story before deciding to vote for any Democrat, then imagine the UK nightmare visited upon your family. The article states some UK nurses are going to work for supermarkets stocking shelves because the pay, hours and benefits are better. The UK "single payer" health care system is short 11,500 doctors and 42,000 nurses. "...almost 30,000 patients died in the past year while waiting for treatment". Who could possibly think that's better?

What is your point, that they need to educate more doctors and nurses. Are you inferring that people do not want to become doctors or nurses any longer. Do you believe if Britain spent 2.5 times more person like the US does they would have better healthcare or do you think that it is because of the check has a insurance company name and not the government's they would not experience the problem that you believe exists.

I drive a Camry, My brother drives a Lexus, I don't complain that my camry does not give the same ride and comfort as the lexus. I also have 25,000 more money to spend on other things.

I have not heard a single Democratic candidate suggest that they want to be "just like this."

Rather, all seem to share Trump's stated goal of a healthcare system for Americans that is "something terrific!" that covers "everybody!" at "less cost!", an entirely commendable goal that has been achieved by all advanced nations in varying ways, but not by the US despite Trump's promise.

Until someone achieves Trump's stated goal, US healthcare costs, already far, far more costly than in advanced nations, will continue to soar.

Flogging the socialist bogeyman rears its ugly head once again. In this case, it would be oh so much more effective if our healthcare system were anywhere close to Britain's in terms of cost, access, and outcomes.

You're not that stupid so stop pretending that you are. Then stop using healthcare as a tool for your (and their) partisan political hate games.

If you really cared about healthcare for real people, you'd focus on all the specific issues which need to be addressed on the ground rather than obsessing over the big picture of the fundamental funding structure which, in truth, carries no guarantee of success or failure in itself. It's perfectly possible to establish a quality healthcare system under a fully private or full state funded structure (or any combination of the two, which is essentially what we both have). You just need to want to create a quality healthcare system.

Often people only examine something until they see what they want to see- such as the eternal buzz-word "free", which is also the eternal lie. If one does not look behind the curtain to see the big picture- they make stupid choices based on fragments of the information. Of course, nothing is really free except the air you breathe. Whatever must be paid for- will be paid for by people. The only variable here is how the mechanism is applied, how that money is extracted from them- but it will always be from the people because there is no other source. People do feel better when they think the ubiquitous and anonymous "somebody else" is paying, but that is only an illusion; it always turns out to be them. When you pay your own way- you have control of the decisions. When you must rely on government or other mechanisms to pay your bills, you have no control. Not a good place to be- and nothing good comes of it.

Amusing to see you contradict your own post. Citizens like those in countries which have nationalized systems "pay their own way" by virtue of the taxes they pay. Fortunately for them, the total cost of the system is less than ours while they get better health outcomes.

I don't even know why I took the time to respond. He wants to compare the quality of healthcare in a nation that spends 3300 per capita to a nation that spends 10,000. I am surprised that he did not mention a nation in Africa that spends 100 per capita on healthcare. I think that he wanted us to believe that people who buy stock in healthcare insurance companies just give the company money to pay providers and that Aetna, Blue Cross etc are like Catholic charities or St Jude Hospital

I’d rather die if a medical error, then be one of the 40k that died in the streets of England because I couldn’t get in to get care

Advanced nations have, pragmatically, all arrived as some variation upon the same approach for which Trump defined his admirable goal: Quality care that covers everybody at less cost.

Hidebound ideologues and the parasites who profit handsomely off what is by far the most expensive system on earth that still fails to cover tens of millions (whose bloated medical casts are routinely dumped on the American taxpayer) have no rational defense of their disastrous status quo.

What's a Trumpette to do but persist in the pursuit of ignoring objective truth. Acknowledging the world as it is means acknowledging the colossal mistake of supporting the Orange Fraud and the lies promoted by the media apparatus supporting him.

Your sentiment is spot on. But you err in assuming that the Dems want single payer healthcare to make healthcare better. The Dems deep down want single payer healthcare because it gives them power and control over the populace. To paraphrase Colton of Nixon fame, grab a guy by his healthcare and his mind is sure to follow.

    the
40K people died....awaiting medical care....died in the streets....that's what socialized medicine delivers.

It happened here too...when Obama was running the VA.
