That's what I'm talking about. If that's changed in the last 2 years please post proof.

Your post is meaningless to anyone who's never been to OZ.

I constantly go to different doctors of my choice. There is no allocation of doctors at all, never have I been allocated a doctor in my life. You just walk into whatever GP you want and, precisely how it works in your system, pay them for their services.

You just get the first x dollars paid for by Medicare (although it has the same name the two are not alike).

That is, of course, unless they are fully bulk billed.
It is true that not all doctors are fully bulk billed, some charge an additional fee.

If you want to pick any doctor free of charge you cannot do this in our system or yours.

In both systems you can, however, pick any doctor you like if you're willing to pay the money.

    I included a map

But just the other day I was reading how many country towns in America no longer have a hospital

    https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2018/01/rural-hospitals/549050/

    Tell me

If you had an out of state accident miles from anywhere would you be able to get first class health care with only showing your Medicare card? What out of pocket expenses would you have?

I have no idea, or even if the article was ever accurate.

Let's say I get sick - I then walk into any GP in the city I want and either pay nothing if he is bulk billed, or pay an additional fee if he charges more and this does not cover his services entirely.

If that is what you mean - we have that and have had it all my life.

    Agreed

When it comes to public hospitals you get allocated a “team” with a consultant in charge. But you STILL have the right to ask for a different doctor.

We have all sorts of built in safeguards and so does the NHS.

The NHS has developed the NICE guidelines for health

    https://www.nice.org.uk/about/what-we-do/our-programmes/nice-guidance/nice-guidelines

Where is the equivalent American guidelines? There are international databases that come close and some Australian based guidelines but these are internationally recognised

Can I of my own accord go around all this and privately pay some licensed surgeon to operate on me?

The VA has been a mess for over 30 years and that is single payer/ government delivery.... NOT single payer/private delivery.

Don't listen to Trump.. He's real stupid.

February 7, 1917: "If we competitively bid drugs in the United States, we can save as much as $300 billion a year.”

As the Washington Post pointed out, “Total spending in Medicare Part D (prescription drugs) in 2014 was $78 billion. So Trump, in effect, is claiming to save $300 billion a year on a $78 billion program. That’s like turning water into wine."

Actually it is.. ONLY the VA has the government owning the facilities and employing doctors and staff. Single payer/private delivery is Medicare and it works well.

WTF? Your OP is concerning the UK not Australia. in 2018 Australia spent 4800 per individual, we spent 2x that. Again you are complaining your not getting a lexus for the price of a camry.

No Democrat is advocating that the US adopt the NHS.

Like Trump, all support a healthcare system that is "something terrific!" that covers "everybody!" at "less cost!"

All advanced nations, except the US, have achieved virtually universal coverage at an average of around half the annual per capita cost of the US (even as that exorbitant cost continues to soar under Trump, despite his phony campaign promise.)

Dogmatic ideologues who oppose proven, pragmatic solutions are not helpful. Progress is demanded.

Despite Fake Don's lies, as US healthcare costs skyrocket under the Trump regime, Republicans exhibit their chronic impotence:

Boehner said that "in the 25 years that I served in the United States Congress, Republicans never, ever one time agreed on what a healthcare proposal should look like. Not once." He added: "All this happy talk that went on in November and December and January about repeal, repeal, repeal -- yeah we'll do replace, replace -- I started laughing because if you pass repeal without replace, first, anything that happens is your fault. You broke it."
Republicans who carp and snivel about healthcare reform but have nothing to offer are a noisome nuisance, nothing more.

What can you say, he thinks Australia is Britain. Hey, they both speak English and they are both islands.

Some of the right wingers here give some thoughtful heartfelt reasons for thier positions, then there are some posters whom you understand right away why they believe everything Trump says
