Are you in the former Belgian Congo? Is that where you learned to make your own?

My mother used to bring me the raw unsweetened paste back from her Caribean holidays. Quite a strange taste, very fragrant and not very chocolaty. The only thing I ever did with it was crumble it onto the top of hot chocolate drinks.

Geeeze, it hasn't been the Belgian Congo for 60 years, how old are you?
But yes and due to a lack of Amazon deliveries one learns to do a lot from scratch.

It will always be the former Belgian Congo no matter how old I am. ;)
It was a geographical question really, not a historical one.
    54 btw.

She's too old and frail for the long flights from England these days, unfortunately. I have run out of the gorgeous vanilla essence she used to bring me too.
You should start a thread about your life in the heart of Africa. I have 101 questions I'd like to ask but we'll be going off-topic if I ask them here.

Like this for example, have you been and watched the rather precarious-looking traditional fishing on the Congo/Zaire?

It's already far worse than 2016 and it's still only April.

Wait. Your mother brought you goodies from Jamaica and you didn't make brownies? My friend Chef Ra is rolling around in his grave.

Not Jamaica. Grenada and St Lucia were their favorites but they visited many of the islands over a period of 10 years or so. Cuba was their last trip about 5 years ago but they found it a bit too hot to enjoy themselves fully.
I did persuade them to bring me back a Che Guevara t-shirt so I could annoy my righty friends but I managed to wear it once and then lost it. I suspect foul play.

Speaking of getting back on topic I have a question as whether or not it is tasteless to ask if the Angel Moroni is the patron saint of all trolls?

That's what you give the child of someone you don't like for their birthday.

those noisy, obnoxiously flashing lights toys were my 'go to' gifts for the relatives children, along with a healthy supply of batteries :D

I gave my nephew a lawn mower that went “clack, clack, clack” loudly, when you pushed it.

My go to for the 2-3 years olds was the windup train that ran on a xylophone track. Virtually indestructible and no batteries.
