"Who's gonna pay for Medicare for all?" is either stupid or disingenuous

Actual stats speak louder than an opinion piece by distinctly-right-of-center Melissa Kite.

Again, just 1.4% choose to have private insurance. and while they might think about cost, it's hardly an obstacle.

According to health intelligence provider LangBuisson, a typical policy costs the equivalent of $69 a month for a 35 year old to $243 a month for a 70 year old.

Just an aside: do you seriously not know what infant mortality is?

If so, you might want to Google it rather than advertise the fact.

You've done this kind of nonsense before.

But again, this is not about me. It's about getting healthcare for all Americans - something all other industrialized countries are doing while we are NOT doing that.

LOL! Yes, that right wing UK Guardian strikes again. ;-)

Almost as bad as that GD Alt Right CNN.

"There has been a "sustained period of disinvestment, leaving a deficit in these services," Mortimer said. "This makes it harder to transfer care out into the community from hospital."

"The result of continuously declining services is an increase in the number of people coming into hospitals -- due to poorly resourced primary care -- and a decrease in people moving out. "It's both ends, really," he said.
Away from emergency room attendance, this also affects the ability to schedule routine surgeries and procedures as beds remain occupied. In 2013, the average wait for general surgery was 8½ weeks, Mortimer said, but in 2017, it was 9½ weeks. "

So, the US News and World Report must be another one of those Right Wing sources we should just ignore - right? ;-)

    How about the Associated Press?

"Americans who flock to Canada for cheap flu shots often come away impressed at the free and first-class medical care available to Canadians, rich or poor. But tell that to hospital administrators constantly having to cut staff for lack of funds, or to the mother whose teenager was advised she would have to wait up to three years for surgery to repair a torn knee ligament.
"It's like somebody's telling you that you can buy this car, and you've paid for the car, but you can't have it right now," said Jane Pelton. Rather than leave daughter Emily in pain and a knee brace, the Ottawa family opted to pay $3,300 for arthroscopic surgery at a private clinic in Vancouver, with no help from the government.
"Every day we're paying for health care, yet when we go to access it, it's just not there," said Pelton."

I don't even slightly agree with that.

There is no doubt that there are countries where the local system has serious problems.

But, that is certainly not a refutation of single payer as a general mechanism.

Let's remember that Medicare is a single payer system and it is working.

Let's remember that many systems offer significant but not full coverage while also having for-profit insurance for those with the cash for more coverage.

Let's remember that longevity data shows we don't live longer due to our system.

Let's remember that we pay more for healthcare than do the people of any other country in the world.

The UK spends LESS THAN HALF what we do on healthcare.

    LESS THAN HALF.

When thinking aboutt UK healthcare, let's remember that there is GIANT room for them to increase their healthcare budget before they come anywhere CLOSE to what we spend.

Look at the rest of the references. They all confirm the 7%. But even if we use your number the total is ~ 7 million out of 330 million. Fixing that problem does not require ObamaCare which has caused much more damage to the US healthcare system.

No, Medicaid is a social safetynet feature..

And again, there are NUMEROUS single payer type systems. There is NO reason for us to search out and implement one that isn't succeeding.

Medicare only works due to cost shifting from private healthcare insurance premiums.

Yes, as I pointed out government healthcare is always about denying care and expanding the power of the political class and its bureaucracy.

“An analysis of 2,500 dental practices on the NHS Choices website has revealed half were not accepting new adult NHS patients, and two-fifths were turning children away.

The British Dental Association said the figures reflected an "emerging crisis" in dental care in England.”

NHS is not even humane enough to cover half the cost of the pliers, whisky and glue.

The thing about single payer systems is that each person spends time thinking they are indestructible (even though every age group has serious and expensive health issues) and being old enough that healthcare is more expensiive (right when incomee tapers off).

Thosee over 65 are not the enemy - they are everyone lucky enough to live that long, including you and me, we hope.

This just doesn't prove much of anything.

Remember they pay less than half what we do, and you're complaining that their dental covverage isn't good enough!!

No, it is a social safetynet feature.

It's true that if we DID have a single payer system, those currently on Mediicaid would be covered by that system.

You can't separate those who are most destitute and then claim THAT represents something other than what we do for those who are most destitute.

an exaggeration and a whiner, torn knee ligaments don't present long term pain after injury, nor do you require a knee brace(I've torn a number of ligaments in both knees)...surgical wait time depends on where you live and availability of surgeons...my knee replacement time was one year, 8 months of that was waiting to see the Ortho, no biggie I avoided going for years...

my total out of pocket expenses for two doctors, two knee braces, physio, hospital stay, two more physios for 6 months recuperation...total cost=zero $....okay I did have to pay for parking at the Ortho's office ...and that's not including the numerous ligament reconstruction surgeries, also zero dollars

I wouldn't give my healthcare for anything available in the US ever...and neither would any other canadian I know...

PAIN, Suffering, and MUTILATION Will. And you are talking about all the money you save?

Government healthcare is always about denying care and the culling of undesirables. Surely you know that.

Repeated nonsense does not make it right. Guns are a market commodity. They are not a product or service the government provides. Medicare, student loans, mortgages are direct government intruded commodities that have skyrocketed costs. You could say every product and service are “regulated”, but not controlled. To be controlled in the sense that it affects their lack of market forces, the government would provide them directly. Now, stop being a nitwit.

LOL! Knee surgery! Canadians don need no stinkin knee surgery! A couple of braces will do ya - right? ;-)

"Our northern neighbor's admirers should consult its history. Nearly fifty years ago, Canada charged a youthful chief executive with a massive overhaul of its healthcare system -- just as the United States has today. Canada now has a half-century of proof that government-dominated healthcare systems force patients to wait interminably long times for subpar treatment."
REALCLEAR POLITICS, Don't Import Canada's Ideas on Health Care, By Sally Pipes, April 28, 2015. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/a...rt_canadas_ideas_on_health_care__126404.html#!

Canadian government healthcare sucks. US healthcare is great - for those who can afford it.
For veterans and the poor - it's about like Canada and the UK - they get the care the bureaucrats feel like giving them.

Anyone who believes that "government is here to help" probably still believes in the Tooth Fairy.

of that wait time most are Canadians who US residents US or tourists have been injured or ill while on vacation...you're correct it's pure fantasy.

I've only known two Canadians who have gone to the US for medical treatment, one because the procedure she needed was so rare no one in Canada no surgeon did it, apparently only a few in the US as well....and the other was a millionaire who didn't like to wait his turn, he could've had the done procedure here...

You were complaining about UK citizens not having adequate DENTAL COVERAGE!

How many Americans have adequate dental covverage?

You aren't even TRYING to make a valid comparison. You're searching for problems and then trying to suggest that they represent every other system in the industrialized world.

And, that's just plain nonsense as an approach to comparison or analysis.
