Do you honestly believe the Army of Northern Virginia gave a damn about Lincoln's stroke of a pen?

Tea Party will never be ALLOWED to go 3rd Party.

Fox News, controlled by the RNC, will destroy it utterly, before they'll see that happen. Hannity, Cavuto, O'Reilly, et al will call any TPers mentioning "3rd Party"..."Democratic infiltrators".

And Cruz is a loyal Republican....he's not talking "breaking off and running as a 3rd Party" candidate.

Re-read what I wrote. I'm talking about TALK that the TP would become a 3rd Party. If they tried that....Fox, which IS controlled by the RNC, would destroy it. Utterly.

Fox is not controlled by anyone. .They tell it like it is. I can see the tea party trying to become a 3rd party. We already have communist. socialist and many others on the ballot...It wont really really hurt anything . There are more then two parties already they are just not talked about. Except when Ron Paul runs..

Personally I think some sort of common sense grassroots campaign to reduce government could be productive - namely because the left wants to see government our of your personal lives, and the right out of your economic lives. Agreement that we disagree a lot, but recognition that we can still work together on the stuff nobody likes = success.

The problem is, common sense is so rare, yet people always seem to think they're exercising it. Groups like these are usually co-opted by powerful groups - as the Tea Party has been. They always seem to fizzle out and be integrated into the establishment.

Of course, they TELL you they aren't controlled by anyone....and since Fox "tells it like it is"...it MUST be true.

    :D

You try...you and your Tea Partyers TRY to form a 3rd Party if a "RINO" gets the Nomination in 2016. And watch how fast you are slapped down and slapped down HARD by Fox and its hosts....all of whom claim to support the Tea Party....now.

Dick Armey, Michele Bachmann, Palin, et al took over leadership in Tea Party and made sure, despite primary challenges, that it remained loyal to the GOP once it was time for the General Election.

They also made sure TP tacitedly supported the rest of the GOP coalition, i.e. the Social Conservatives, even as Tea Partyers claimed they were not Social Conservatives or their "movement" had "nothing to do" with abortion, gay rights, etc. As well as making sure Tea Party didn't rally against Big Government items the Republican Party supported like farm subsidies and corporate tax breaks.

But it's been a dicey operation for the GOP. Despite the usefulness of keeping a base of voters "fired up" (mostly on Obama hatred), they also allowed to them WRECK what could have been some easy victories for the Republican in the Senate....Richard Mourdock, Christine O'Donnell, Sharron Angle, Ken Buck, etc.

It's like having a rabid dog as your watch-dog. Great for scaring off burglers, even more than a non-rabid dog....until you take your eye off him and he bites YOU. :)

If the Tea Party membership were successful (Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, etc) and won the election in 2016, they'd be viewed by libertarians as Obama is viewed by Progressives. That's not to say that the Tea Party movement was ever libertarian - but then again, when was the last time the Democratic Party was really Progressive?

Neither of them represent either of our positions. You don't support drone strikes, no action on gay marriage, the wars in the Middle East, the NSA spying apparatus, etc. I don't support pretty much any of their social/foreign policies. So I guess my conclusion is that we shouldn't be concerned with these groups at all. They're of manufactured importance. Progressives should pick an actual Progressive as their supported politician - someone like Ralph Nader. The sooner we stop giving all this free press and attention to these establishment veils of the real thing, the sooner we start getting some real representatives into our respective governments.

The Tea Party is not a party per se. It's an ideology that supports the Constitution and less taxes.

If part of their ideals can affect the Republican Party, that's a good thing. Reagan taught that getting part of the pie was better than getting none of the pie.

Nah, never happen. That only splits the Republican party.....which I realize is the point coming from most people who are suggesting it.

That's like someone suggesting that the Democrat party split up into two; one for the socialist-leaning and another for the center-left. I'd be for that one!!

    1. Tea Party dutifully votes Republican every Election Day....even for social conservatives who run on banning abortion and opposing gay rights, more than on "supporting the Constitution".

    2. Reagan taught that Keynesian economics works. He cut taxes but he also INCREASED spending....exactly what a Keynesian would say to do in a recession....and which Tea Partyers oppose.

Actually, I'm on the Left and I'm telling Rightwingers that there is no way in hell the GOP is going to allow the Tea Party to become a 3rd Party. Every RW media outlet from Fox to Drudge to Rush Limbaugh himself....would destroy the TP first, to the point, I firmly believe, of (as you did) suggesting "Tea Party 3rd Party" talk was the work of "Democratic infiltrators".

Tea Party has, does, and will....be firmly in the GOP camp....forever. Or it'll be destroyed by the same people who created it.

Running as a third party, is frankly ridiculous and stupid. The Libertarian party, for example has done nothing in its 30+years of existence and has never elected a single person to state wide office (definition of a FAILURE). Third parties gain under 1% of the vote, and fail. We have a two party system, and always have and its best to join one of the parties based on whichever one suits your views. As for me, I would never vote for a third party as it is throwing your vote away as wether you like it our not the democrat OR republican will be elected to office. Look at Virginia. The Libertarian candidate (who wasint EVEN a libertarian, was a progressive) gained 7% of the vote and THREW the election to Terry McFail (a complete idiot and violater of constitutional rights) and one of the best Republicans was defeated by Libertarian trolls. Thats why voting third party is dumb and idiotic in 97% of cases. Unless the party has over 18% of the vote, and a serious chance of winning you can count me out.

Yeah, and have fun gaining under 1% of the vote in EVERY election and having NO political poll and gaining nothing.

But, by all means if progressives want to run a third party campaign (another Nader, if you will) go right ahead!. Steal as much votes as you can from the democrat!.

I don't care about winning the popularity contest, I vote for the best candidate, pure and simple.
