If white supremacists are on the rise I haven't seen it in my redneck state of Arkansas. Ever wonder why some are joining them? Maybe some are getting tired of our race being marginalized and blamed for everything bad that happens to other races. I have predicted a race war in our future for a long time now and if it keeps going the way it is with political groups dividing us into separate races like the last 8 years it will come. We as individuals need to get our heads out of our arses and stop listening to all the race baiting and start working to improve our own lives.

 

I thought Faubus was dead. Does Arkansas need some more troops to remind it that it doesn't make the rules?

We are not seeing white supremacists increasing in Arkansas. But if they are growing elsewhere, what gives you the right to decide what they believe or think. We conservatives do not believe we have the right to stop democrats from preaching their beliefs to others unless they do so violently. When this stuff becomes violent then the troops can be brought in if the police can't handle it. Freedom of speech and the right to "peacefully" demonstrate is no reason to come out fighting.

You keep trying to qualify what the south did based on their motive and their desired outcome, while refusing to accept what they did. I'm not here to re-litigate the cause of the civil war, but I will focus on what they did.

Secession from union was their action, and they used the fact that Lincoln claimed he had the right to regulate slavery in territories in the south that had not yet becomes states as their motive. They basically said the US government overstepped their authority. But they ultimately raised arms against the US government.

So please explain how the south claiming the Federal Governement had overstepped their bounds was any different than what Timothy McVeigh used as his motive ?

 

And specifically not in the colonies where they needed the slave labor forbtheir cheap cotton and tobacco.

You should take a history class. Lincoln stated early in his presidency (even in his candidacy) his disdain for slavery. He campaigned on freedom for slaves. It was when he asserted an authority over southern territories to control slavery, thats when the southern states decided to secede as they saw that Lincoln was going to live up to his campaign promises. Lincoln had already started working on legislation to free slaves at the federal level. The northern states had already ended slavery at the state level, and when the south didn't, Lincoln acted. The southern states knew that he was going to end slavery. So your claim that he "wanted the southern states to stay, AND their slavery", is disingenuous because you know he was on the path to ending slavery anyway. Lincoln upheld the articles of confederacy, and in the end saved the country.

No matter what the federal government does, if you dont like it you change it at the ballot box (the southern states had that same option), you don't take up arms against them. No matter what your motive, taking up arms against the federal government cannot have gradation. It is a black and white action.

Fenves said statues of Lee, Confederate Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston and Confederate Postmaster General John H. Reagan would be moved to the Briscoe Center for American History on campus. The university in 2015 moved a statue of former Confederate President Jefferson Davis from its perch near the campus clock tower, the same area as the other statues, to the history museum."

More than 200 people packed the Davidson Conference Room at the Jim Plyler Instructional Complex, with 47 residents signing up to speak.

The first and last speakers to take the microphone during the more than hourlong public comment portion made impassioned pleas to change the name, while many others throughout the night urged the board to keep the name, repeatedly asking where it would stop if the board changed the name.


"Where does this cultural cleansing stop?" asked Wayne Jones, a 33-year-Tyler resident. "Let's move ahead yes, but we don't have to change everything. We don't have to culturally change our country."


However, others said it was time to change the name, something they said would move the community forward in a positive direction."

Augusta civil rights activists receive approval to rally for removal of downtown Confederate monument

An Augusta civil rights organization is pushing forward with plans for a rally on removing a Confederate monument downtown .

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday it has approved a permit request on behalf of the Augusta chapter of the NAACP to assemble Thursday in front of the monument in the 700 block of Broad Street. The sheriff’s office said there have been no permit requests by potential counter-protesters.

The state NAACP called for the removal of all Confederate symbols from state and local properties last week. The call to remove Confederate symbols follows a growing movement nationwide after violent protests in Charlottesville, Va., on Aug. 12, triggered by that city’s plan to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee."

The Mayor Pro Tem for the City of Dallas, Dwaine Caraway, said that the 121-year-old historical Confederate War Memorial will be gone by the end of the year.
“They’ll be down before Christmas,” he told WFAA on Sunday about the monuments located next to Dallas City Hall in Pioneer Park.

Caraway, one of the city’s four black councilmen, addressed the fate of the Civil War display that features statues of Confederate States President Jefferson Davis and generals Robert E. Lee, Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, and Albert Sidney Johnston. The park, also a cemetery, houses graves of Dallas’ earliest settlers and civic leaders.

The recent violent protest in Charlottesville, Virginia, sparked the push in Dallas to remove Confederate-era monuments. On Friday night, vandals spray painted “Nazis” on another statue of Robert E. Lee in uptown Dallas. Subsequently, police increased their patrols in Lee Park to prevent further attacks. Then, anti-Confederacy protesters and activists at Saturday’s “Dallas Against White Supremacy” rally demanded that officials take down these monuments quickly."
