Agreed. However, the growing number suggests that there's something worth investigating. It's a shame that PC demands we don't.
Homosexuals there by default? What does that mean? IME, those who are the most homophobic have been either homosexual themselves or sexually confused/low self-esteem. Yes, there are religious views, but most Christians I know believe a person's conduct is between them and God. As for "mainstream research", most studies are consistent over time: https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/wp-content/uploads/Gates-How-Many-People-LGBT-Apr-2011.pdf Key findings from the research brief are as follows: An estimated 3.5% of adults in the United States identify as lesbian, gay, or bisexual and an estimated 0.3% of adults are transgender. This implies that there are approximately 9 million LGBT Americans, a figure roughly equivalent to the population of New Jersey. Among adults who identify as LGB, bisexuals comprise a slight majority (1.8% compared to 1.7% who identify as lesbian or gay).
As opposed to seeing the old "being gay is a choice" argument trotted out? You are free to think sexual preference is a choice, but $1000 says you can't prove to me you choose your sexual preference.
I've never suggested that sexuality is a 'choice'. You'll need to keep me up to speed on your assumptions
Nice backpedal. So what do you believe drives sexual preference...and going back to your earlier comment, what do you think is the difference between people who disagree with the "homosexual lifestyle" and those who vehemently hate gays?
You said: What or whom do you think is responsible for the bold(emphasis mine) if your statement is true?
That whole diatribe was about this conclusion you aren't sure about. So, let's look at it. What if it is true? Then, what if it isn't? That's how you discuss things in a reasonable manner.
the mating urge is biological. variations in the expression of the mating urge are environmental. hate? what are you talking about?
There was an error in that paragraph. It should have read, "That still does not argue choice..." I think we are on the same track here. I wasn't trying to imply that it was a conscious thought of "oh I am actually a woman instead of the man I was born so I should be attracted to men now that I am transitioning." Although I am pretty sure that is what is happening on a subconscious level. And many are indeed bound by societal mores, as that is what holds them back from admitting that they are trans to begin with. While many are now feeling free to admit it earlier and earlier, there is still a large amount who repress and hide those feelings and urges, as do homosexuals.
Explain what you believe is the cause of your suggestion that......."In an aside, and extrapolating from this, could we also then make reasonable assumptions about what percentage of homosexual people are only there as a result of unrecognised feelings of inadequacy with the opposite sex?" ~ crank We don't need to philosophize. You simply need to answer this question. As it seems you will not, your whole premise has fallen apart. I thought you were smarter than this.
Yes, but there's also sexual preference.....and calling it a "mating urge" regardless if it's a machine, someone of the opposite sex or Onanism, is putting it politely since the urge obviously isn't to "mate". Obviously you haven't seen the hate homophobes have expressed about homosexuality.
It is a mating urge though. We're mammals. Meantime, I have no problem with what you call homophobia. I don't feel the same way, but respect others' right to be opposed to something they view as harmful to society.
All fair enough. But I would argue that a person prepared to change genders, is not bound by societal mores.
Just because you've managed to throw off some societal mores, it doesn't mean that you've managed to throw them all off.
WTF is psychological arts? Art implies creating something. Psychology is the study of human behavior or the study of something that exists and is a phenomenon it is not the creation of anything. Whatever you have a foot in it isn't psychology. You don't even know what it is.
A) I can accept that orientation is malleable. I don't accept your nonsense about what it's affected by. B) if they would know better than you.
That would suggest that people really all are bisexual. And they only pick the gender they choose to be with out of social propriety or ease of access.
