And if republicans had been in charge back in 1858 we'd still be using whale oil and heating our houses with wood.

In 1858 the Republicans were the party of change and reform.

Hiya, @Bob Newhart ! Since you never came back to enlighten me with an explanation of what you meant by "-2i * -2i = -4", I decided to dig into this matter further, and I found a very interesting article that may be of use to you, too: "Why Is a Negative Times a Negative Positive?"
    https://davidwees.com/content/why-is-a-negative-times-a-negative-positive/

It's all good, educational stuff, but scroll down about halfway to "Algebraic proof from first principles, From Dr. Alex Eustis" to get to the 'meat' of the argument. In a spirit of good fun and overall enlightenment, I hope this article corrects your misunderstanding of this simple, but fundamental algebraic principle. If it makes it any easier to digest, as an undergrad back at UT, I was initially indignant at the idea that "a minus times a minus" must always result in a "plus".... -- "Hook 'em Horns!"

That's great and all, but I very much doubt you saved enough by not buying gas than you spent on the car itself over an ICE car.

Not to mention, one thing it seems that nobody is talking about is that so-called "zero-emission" vehicles are NOT "zero-emission" for most of us. Because coal and gas are the top two producers of electricity in the US, at best they are "emission-SHIFTING" vehicles. Sure, there are no emissions coming out of your tailpipe, but all you've done is shift those emissions to those dirty, nasty, evil "fossil fuel" power plants.

We were spending about $400 per month on fuel prior to our EV purchase so I doubt your first statement is accurate, it is also more convenient as we have a charger installed at home and both our offices so no more stopping for fuel.

I don’t know why you put in your blurb about “zero-emissions” as I haven’t been discussing that nor was it a consideration on our purchase.

I will stick to dino-fuel until I can recharge an EV in the same amount of time as it takes to fill my tank. I also don't care for network-connected vehicles monitoring me.

Supercharging does add some time to the trip but we typically shop or eat (or watch Netflix) so it isn’t that bad. We do a 300 mile trip one way several times a year to see family.

Just ordered our new car: 2022 Lexus RX350 with conventionally aspirated 6 cyl. motor. Opted for all the bells and whistles -- as Mrs. Hays and I cruise deeper into our golden years we want to be comfortable. Delivery mid-February.

No. If I were car shopping now I wouldn't even look at an electric.

650 km Wintertime Trip With VW E-Car Took 13 Hours, 3 Recharges And Lots Of Warm Clothes

Consumers’ expectations for e-cars are still unrealistic…can’t hold a candle to conventional combustion engine vehicles.

When it comes to performance parameters like fuel consumption, car manufacturers’ brochures often boast figures that in reality are only possible under really ideal conditions. But rarely are such conditions the case in real life. The result: disappointed consumers. . . .

Combustion engines will be around long after 2035, says Austrian KTM CEO…”500-kg battery to substitute 20 liters of fuel” …”a stupid idea” …”phony sustainability”…

Stefan Pierer, the Austrian CEO of KTM Group, recently told SpeedWeek.com here: “Electromobility is nonsense promoted by politicians with no technical knowledge.”

    The numerous drawbacks of e-vehicles

Especially electric passenger vehicles are notorious for their limited range, environmentally-damaging batteries and generally low energy efficiency. Other drawbacks include safety, especially is case of fires. . . .

Price Shock: Mercedes Hybrid Driver Stunned After Learning New Battery Costs More Than Value Of Car!
    By P Gosselin on 11. February 2022

The price for a new battery was 18,000 pounds – not including the hourly wage of £200. But the Mercedes hybrid at the time was only worth around £12,000, thus making little sense to repair a car that’s only 8 years old.

Electric cars have a host of technical disadvantages associated with them, among them: range, weight, a general lack of charging infrastructure and the huge demand for materials to build their batteries.

    Sticker shock

Another is cost, as one British owner of a used hybrid Mercedes experienced when he got a price shock after taking his car in for repairs, reports the online DW24.de. . . .
