Alexa stats reflect that PF is #1 in the political forums category but if you are not interested in any further pursuit of what they are telling us about PF then sobeit. I am quite willing to let my posts speak for themselves.

    Have a nice day.

And that does not relate to actual traffic. There are simply way more political forums now. Partly because PF has bleed so many members.

It relates directly to actual traffic.

Not in the sense we are talking about dont play word games! You are trying to argue that because the forum is #1 that traffic is dead. You have to do this because objectively this is not true. When one is making a false case the only resort is fallacious arguments.

Where did I make the claim that "because the forum is #1 that traffic is dead"?

I am not playing "word games" either.

The facts in my two prior posts are direct quotes from Alexa.

Alexa shows that PF is ranked #1.

    http://www.alexa.com/topsites/category/Top/Society/Politics/Chats_and_Forums

Alexa uses actual traffic for it's rankings.

    https://support.alexa.com/hc/en-us/articles/200449744-How-are-Alexa-s-traffic-rankings-determined-

The onus is entirely on you to prove that Alexa data is "fallacious" or "objectively not true".

The onus is on you to prove that being #1 means that traffic hasn't suffered.

I would not put faith in Alexa's "free" data.

Ironic considering the fallacious allegation about "word games".

All I am doing is posting what is on the Alexa website.

Alexa data is what you are basing your own allegation that "traffic has suffered" so the onus is on you to prove that Alexa is "fallacious" or "objectively not true" since those are your terms, not mine.

SimilarWebsites is not showing any significant difference to Alexa.

Do you have any other sources that are more reliable?

I did not say Alexa data is corrupt. I basically said their free data is not something I would base an argument on. You get what you pay for.

The onus is on you to explain how being #1 means traffic has not suffered. You can still be #1 while loosing considerable traffic.

I think you should merge the Employment & Labor, or at least make it a subforum of the Economics & Trade section.

I'd also make Immigration more prominent and give it its own section, like Abortion.

Why is there no rule against grave digging? Many forums have one. A couple posters are habitual grave diggers. Why is there no rule against it? It clutters the main forums and is resoundingly annoying. You see a title and think it might be worth your time then you notice it's a grave dig of a 4 year old OP.

IMHO grave diggers deserve some form on infraction.

Allegations that "traffic has suffered" without any substantiation don't carry any weight.

Where is the hard evidence that PF is "loosing [sic] considerable traffic"?

Until that has been established with factual data there is nothing that needs to be "explained".

    Hello,

It's been discussed by the staff on more than one occasion. At the times of discussion it wasn't enough of an issue to create a new rule.

If these old threads are landing back in LWN, CE, etc, report them so we can either delete, archive or redirect them. We don't dig through archives to find them, and I am guessing that some of these members have bookmarked these threads, so that they can add new information.
Our members are our eyes and ears.

    Thanks

Competence to do the job should be #1. This is a written forum. The rules are written. The posts being moderated are written. A poster might be "a good" person but if the write at an elementary school level the odds are that their reading comprehension is also at an elementary school level. If someone struggles to put posts together that are little more than a few sentences then they probably shouldn't be a mod. In my experience the best mods also have the best writing ability. It's the foremost sign of competence we have.

Have you ever considered that those who crated and run the site have their own specific vision of what they want it to be?

Volume is not an indicator of quality.

They're still valid topics.... Lock them at the very worst, if they're deleted you're going to lose your posts...

Where I mod at a mod actually started deleting old topics and threads and it turned into a mess.

Not to mention people like to read old threads anyway.

The resolution to old topics is to lock them if you don't want them bumped.

    - - - Updated - - -

What it's called is "bumping" but I like your language better...

They do move them but with no actual rule there are some bad grave diggers who just do it with impunity. One for instance just grave digs vaguely related topics to spam articles without getting a rule 11.

If I was a mod here I would just start locking old threads..... That's your solution/resolution.

If one can't post in a thread they can't bump it.... If one doesn't want a thread bumped then lock it.

For the most part if an older thread in the Current Events forum gets bumped I will generally move it to the most appropriate forum. It isn't something we are flooded with.
