Chief Carmen Best’s words on Thursday were an attempt to quell the anger the cops are feeling about being ordered by her to abandon the East Seattle Police Precinct on Monday, after two weeks of holding the line and being attacked by protesters.

They were forced, by her order, to abandon the building, allowing the violent protesters who’d been amassing there for days to take over the area surrounding it.

The subsequent village that has sprung up around it does not "allow" cops. Armed protesters patrol the encampment.

The chief now says she didn’t agree with her own order to hand over the precinct to the mob. She now claims the order was Mayor Jenny Durkan's.

Seattlites have the right to ask: if their chief will not stand against the mob, who will? If the police chief, of all people, won’t stand up for the rule of law, who will enforce it?

We formed professional police to protect criminals from the hands of angry citizens responding to crimes. This city is in the process of throwing that societal advancement away.

 

The Chief followed the Mayor's order.

Take it up with Durkhan, guys.

Yeah, aside from the rioting and violence and stupidity by the freight-car load, aside from that it's all just swell... Don't minimize the crazies. They say what they mean. This insurrection must be put down for the good of the decent people still left there.
