You would have followed Hitler or Stalin just as blindly as you follow Barry... nothing new under the sun; just new and inventive ways to package and sell the snake oil.
Biggest threat? Resource wars, especially for water - to drink & for crops. Rare earths for high-tech manufacturing. As fisheries are depleted, wars for croplands are possible, although changing climate & water/fertilizer shortages will affect yields adversely. After that, government systems - law enforcement, national defense, transportation of strategic goods, food, public health & education will all come under increasing pressure. (Note that there's actually sufficient food - barely - to sustain the population, with some minimal cushion. The commercial food/distribution system, however, will not operate without @ least a paper profit to show @ the end. We're probably going to lose a lot of people because some electronic ledger somewhere didn't balance out properly.)
Hitler is a good example. He had to contend with whiny communists trying to take over his country. Sometimes people get so used to whining that they leave you no choice but to slap 'em around a bit. And you boys are putting on a whine fest the likes of which this world have never seen.
Aren't we your brothers and sisters? Aren't we your fellow citizens who are protected by the Constitution? Don't we have the constitutional right to dissent? Don't you love us any more?

There's no doubt that what you say is true and WILL become part of a real life and death struggle of survival for millions. But these factors don't threaten all of civilization.

With all due respect, I never said your question was stupid. But, any poll without an "Other" option presupposes all the provided choices cover all the potential answers. Or else the poster doesn't care about any answers that did not enter his imagination. With a PhD I wouldn't want you to come here and feel as though you can just abandon whatever strict scientific or literary disciplines you usually follow because we here at PF are "school ground" denizens who you can dazzle with displays of sloppy polling. So, please tell us, did you INTENTIONALLY omit the "other" option because you believed your poll options gave us all the options that were needed or because your imagination failed you? For example, were you saying, (are you still saying) the "biggest threat to Civilisation" ISN'T global Jihad (even without war)?

Many of the options have happened in the past and have not directly threatened "all civilization"; if they have, they haven't succeeded. That includes religion (which has been discussed in some posts here). I do think that the biggest threat is likely to be "mad-made" though.
Interesting in that its religion that has the best chance to save civilization from this current apocalypse as given to us by socialists, Marxists, commies and progressives alike.
