The problem is that many of these ex convicts have requested the amount and cannot get the info so they aren’t able to pay.

Because there is no central database of court fines and fees, it is difficult or impossible to establish how much anyone owes. As of May, the state had failed to process any of the more than 85,000 voting registration applications submitted by former felons since Amendment 4 passed in late 2018.

Well, you need to someday, somehow do what we did in my state of Va.... Get some D leadership.... Va was pretty backwoods as recently as 10 years ago, and still is in certain locations, but now we are at least near the forefront of states that are responsive to the needs of our residents...

In 2018, my district elected a D representative after decades of R's.... although to be fair, Frank Wolf (34 years a Rep) was not a whack-a-doo like R's of today are...

I know Gillum was a new and reasonably unknown candidate, but jesus.... How could you elect the 'Build the Wall' commercial guy'??? That was 2 years ago and still sticks with me as one of the worst candidate commercials ever..

he only did it for a select few felons that would vote for dems not all felons in florida.

that’s what makes this a potential crime.

Well, all my D friends were fans of Desantis before COVID. His telling the legislature to give the people what they voted for was popular, state wide.

Once he got hold of the COVID issue, though, his rating went way down.

Because they have tried to pay and the state is not interested in letting them.

Sounds like he donated his money to the non profit organization “Florida Rights Restoration Coalition” down here.

Perfectly legal and good luck making it a crime.

Sorry it was Drew Holden on Becks show. Holden immediately followed Mike Lee. I had the radio on in the background and their voices are similar. The point was the same. Bloomberg is cherry picking those who will be released. Black and Hispanic are the requirements.

I'll pass on the Glenn Beck program, thanks... prefer news sources myself...

    SNIP
The former New York City mayor partnered with the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition to help raise at least $16 million for felons to pay off outstanding legal fines and fees in order to regain the right to vote. The effort is targeting around 32,000 former prisoners who owed less than $1,500 in restitution fees and had already registered to vote.

Sounds to me like he's "cherry picking" (To be released???) the smaller fee owers.... more bang for your buck... If the majority of those people are Black or Hispanic, hey, it's Florida....

    1) I serously doubt the state will not accept their money
    2) but only allowed it to go to certain felons...it's in the OP

    #2) No it isn’t.

This is so laughable in its attempt. 44,000 people donated to the same non profit. It’s hilarious. Now Bloomberg should give 32 million just to say piss off.

Sorry there are two threads about this....in the other OP

    https://nypost.com/2020/09/23/rep-gaetz-bloomberg-may-face-criminal-probe-for-paying-felons-fines/

    "
A memo from the Bloomberg team, obtained Tuesday by the newspaper, explained that the billionaire businessman saw the effort as “a more cost-effective way of adding votes to the Democratic column than investing money to persuade voters who already have the right to vote.”

“We have identified a significant vote share that requires a nominal investment. The data shows that in Florida, Black voters are a unique universe unlike any other voting bloc, where the Democratic support rate tends to be 90%-95%,” the memo read.

Again the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition picks the recipient, not Bloomberg.

It’s one of the charities I donate too. I donated my stimulus to them actually.

Bloomberg is entitled to an opinion. He may even believe they will vote Democrat, he doesn’t get a say. FRRC is a straight legit organization.

    Do some damn research

Thank you Matt Gaetz for bringing awareness to a worthwhile cause!

I wish Gaetz good luck in proving his point in court.

    Anyone can pay a fine.

Meanwhile, you can count tens of thousands more votes for Biden in Florida.

And the battle isn't over, Bloomberg still has $100 million to spend in Florida alone between now and the election.

I’m sure it was. But it’s still just a donation to a legal legit Florida non profit.

I wonder what would happen if Mike bought Cuba and promised it to Cuban-Americans if they vote for Biden? Would that be a campaign finance violation?? Is Cuba "a thing of value"?

Better yet, buy all the available property near Mar-A-Lago and turn it into a Sanctuary City ...... wouldn't add any 2020 votes, but it would be great for Florida's newest retiree...
