But from where in the BigGovernment Budget does the folly of endless debt come? What expenditure produces it?

See the 54% of the Discretionary Budget expenditure here:

    Wakey, wakey America!

Think, boyz-'n-girlz, what we could do with just half that DoD-budget appropriated instead for National Health Care and Free Post-secondary Education.

Think - longer lives and better lives ...

    HISTORICAL BECOMES HYSTERICAL

    Wow, what an indictment!

Social Democracies (you-plural Rightists always forget the second-part, "democracy") are based upon capitalist-systems. After all, who would want to go back to bartering?

Capital is at the heart of our market-economy. That's all a capitalist system means. Except to the Rabid Left who think that money opens the door to mankind's manipulation of a market-economy to generate Wealth for a select few of the total population.

Which unfortunately is the case far too often. The point of it all being that if we, the people, do not assume the responsibility of defining taxation - then others will do it for us. Taxation MUST become a principle subject of debate before each and every PotUS election - because it is the Executive that makes and proposes the budget (which the Legislature approves/disapproves).

Our history of upper-income taxation is shown in this infographic here. The more recent manipulations of upper-income taxation were twofold. First on behalf of LBJ's Texan magnates (1964) and then Reckless Ronnie's in the 1980s. Both political-parties are responsible for drastically lowering upper-income taxation to benefit a select group of top-earners. Resulting in a tidal-wave of after-tax Income that rushed up into Wealth. (And from there to Net Worth.)

That process described above was historical, and today has become hysterical. That is, America's rabidly-rich will do anything
    to keep their tax-privileges.

    And I mean
    anything ...

Short of babies being tossed out of windows cause they run out of room, Britains will always proclaim their healthcare to be the best in the world. They even made it part of their Olympic opening day events. Who the hell thinks healthcare is exciting enough to use for some creepy dance with beds and stuff is beyond me. The same thing occurs when you talk about Cuban healthcare. Everyone thinks the Cubans have great healthcare until you actually learn the truth and that is they are literally dying in their hospitals from starvation and dehydration and heat stroke.

Looking at http://federal-budget.insidegov.com/l/120/2017-Estimate the highest government spending for FY 2017 is shown as below:
    1. Social Security, unemployment, and labor 36% or about $1,33 Trillion
    2. Medicare and general health 28% or about $1.03 Trillion
    3. National Defense 15% or about $543 Billion
    4. Net Interest 7% or about $266 Billion
The above accounting for about 86% of all spending while the remaining 14% falls under a number of much smaller spending programs.

Breaking the budget into mandatory and discretionary results in the total budget amounting to 70% mandatory spending and 30% discretionary.
Of the 70% mandatory Healthcare amounts to 38% of that category, while National Defense amounts to 49% of the discretionary category, while
the figures posted above are relative to the total spending by government.

Think - Higher taxes, higher cost of living, greater debt, greater government control of our lives and that of each successive generation following.
    Hard to resist, isn't it?

Another tirade from the bigoted Right. Will wonders never cease in this forum?

The British do have the best National Health Care system of any developed country. If you refuse to understand the analytics provided by the Commonwealth Fund, then you are beyond hope.

As for Cuba, open your eyes. Obviously, you know how to read - so read this: Huffington Post (Oct. 2014): Cuba’s Health Care System: a Model for the World -
    excerpt:
Yeah, right, so the head of the UN's World Health Organization must have been lying!?!

Cuba's average life-span is identical to the US at 78 years of age. (Europe's life-span is 82, btw.) If all those Cubans who take boats to get to Florida knew the above, they might think first by reading the above.

Yes, Cuba has a longgggggg way to go to play "catch-up" in most economic terms. But neither is the place a death-pit as you make it out to be ...

Historically human beings have always been easily duped by their ruling political class. Social Democrats are socialists - surely you know that.

Governments are inherently corrupt and inefficient. The common defense is probably the only reason they are permitted to exist. Is the defense bureaucracy less corrupt and inefficient than the rest of the state structure. No.

    Government is a necessary evil.

Easy now sizzle chest. I lived and worked in Germany for 7 years, the wife worked on the German economy. Many Americans have seen and lived in socialist countries.

Perhaps, but I'll bet you lived on an Army-base and the little you saw of the Real Germany was on week-ends.

Frankly, I could care less. If you had got to interact with some Germans by living amongst them and asking the right questions, you'd understand why most of the younger ones today go to the US to have the work-experience look nice on a résumé.

But they return to Germany to pursue their lives. I know that for a fact - I hired them ...

You keep repeating your mantra in red and, and it is an exaggeration.

Some are viciously corrupt. But, the fact that most others are inefficient is the present problem. Europe suffered far too much from the GoodTimes and became lackadaisical, and when the Great Recession came around they were not the least bit prepared for it. (But, who was?)

No corruption is not the real problem In the EU, where the governments were obliged to pass strict laws in that matter ...

PS: Having said that, it is a well-known fact that Monsanto paid BigMoney to assure that Round-up was not forbidden by the authorities in Brussels. So "peddling influence" is taking hold unfortunately.

You literally just showed your complete ignorance on the subject.

The numbers are literally gathered by the government I suggest you actually do some research on Cuba's health care system. Fidel trained up a bunch of doctors but he sent virtually all of them overseas to other countries. Since Cuba was under embargo he charged other countries for the use of the doctors while only paying them a few dollars a month. Cuba has hospitals that are falling apart and people literally die in them from lack of resources. The only equivalent we have here is the VA system which is another leftie wet dream.

WHO only takes the data they are given from the countries themselves, it doesn't do anything on its own which is why its extremely unreliable but unfortunately its the only thing we have right now for a database.

You don't get to set the price, bureaucrats will

And what's wrong with a person who has dedicated 12 years of their life to provide a service that is so vital that you view it as a right, making $500,000?

Yes, so the head of the WHO was stoopid to say what she said. Which is also why she was named head of the WHO.

Moreover, here's another obvious lie from Wikipedia about Healthcare in Cuba - excerpt:
One can find the footnote corroborating much of the information above in the original Wikipedia version ...

Thanks. The US is very meticulous with these records. Not so much in some countries. The U.K. is drafting or has drafted regulations on how midwives report infant death because their reporting has been spotty.

Efficient government is an oxymoron. Small limited governments are inherently more efficient and less corrupt than large bureaucratic states. Way it is.

    No, they are not.

Socialism is based upon the fact that the means of production are owned by the government.

    Social Democracy's definition (from here):

There are a lot of reasons - a simple one is that we save on accounting costs. If you were hospitalised in Australia you would get a bill for the cost of your bed. Private you would also get some pharmaceuticals and a few other things but you would not get the itemisation that you get in America. We average out the cost of daily care per area i.e. ICU is roughly $3,500 per day - now you might have cost more than that for your stay or you might have cost less but the insurance companies here do not challenge average costs because they KNOW that doing it our way is much much much cheaper

Only if you believe it to be.

A politician should be held accountable for the efficiency of the government and you do that by writing to the relevant politician/s often enough to be a bloody nuisance

Government is YOUR servant - it is up to you to make sure that they are cleaning under the bed properly

Incorrect, GW. Established nationalised healthcare has been running more or less efficiently in some countries for decades. Several generations, in fact. It's absolutely sustainable, when administered properly.
