Could it really be true? Could the rest of the United States really get the hell rid of 'Kalifornia' once and for all?! :cheerleader: . BE STILL, MY HEART!

    Link: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/04/24/calexit-gets-go-ahead-to-start-collecting-signatures.html

Go, Jerry, go! Get thee hence! Don't let the door hit you and the rest of your 'moonbeam' hyperlibs in the ass on your blessed way OUT of our country!

After you're gone, you can set up a "Soviet', a 'People's Republik of Kalifornia', or just give the whole damned thing to Mexico, or homeless bums, or anybody else who just wanders into your 'socialist-lite' pardise!

Do with Kalifornia what you will, and never darken the doorstep of the United States of America again -- <<MOD EDIT - Removed Group Insult - Rule 2 - Lee S>> After all, you're better at doling out welfare than anything else... so YOU can handle your own internal affairs far better than any of the rest of us... right?!

It's suicide but I welcome it. The US might never see another Democratic POTUS again if this succeeds. And with all the fault lines that plague that state it might be the worst thing that could ever happen if the big one hits cause the US will not be obligated to emergency fund it.

Well the leftist around here say secession is treason. Those that engage in secession are traitors. And of course Lincoln set the precedent that if a state secedes the federal troops go in and displace that government and force them back into the Union.

Should the federal marshals go arrest those promoting this for promoting treason?

Right on the mark, Angrytaxpayer! The only thing worse than having to put up with a clot of rotten, America-hating morons like the ones who run California is the thought that the U. S. would have to bankrupt itself to "rescue" ithem after big quakes (I mean off-the-chart BIG ones) on any one of several different fault lines. They're way overdue for large quakes on the Hayward Fault, the Rose Canyon Fault, the Elsinore Fault, and, of course, the fabled San Andreas Fault.

The earthquake damage, however, is probably insignificant compared to what will happen if California 'catches fire' again this year like it did last year. Oh, yeah, the wildfire danger is severe all over the West, and California is no exception.

45% of California is federal land so we'll be keeping that.

Nearly every single power production facility California has was built and is maintained with federal monies so we'll be keeping that.

Their largest shipping ports also built/maintained by the fed so we'll be keeping those.

    Every federal building we keep.

Of course we'll have to carve out land around things like the power plants, ports, federal buildings, so we'll keep that too.

But yea we can talk about kicking Cuckifornia the **** out of the country, I'm down.

In 1869 the Supreme Court ruled there is no Constitutional right for a state to secede (Texas v White)
Do these clots not know this?

Oh, no! Please don't even say that! Let's get rid of these goofy bastards as fast as we can, using any pretext that's handy. This is a 'golden' opportunity to get rid of the 'golden' state. Let's don't blow it!

Ooh, and I wonder if there's any possibility that we could get them to take coastal Oregon and coastal Washington state with them while they're leaving...?!

Any Californian with a brain knows that breaking away is bad news for California, but every illegal will probably think breaking away is great news for them. So will CA clamp down on the illegal vote of will they let them vote only to end up as North Mexico?

You know what? I just might move back there and vote a few dozen times for this.

Mmmmm... you might have trouble voting more than once in California -- unless you're some a member of some kind of minority group, Steve.

Wellllllll not necessarily, I'm assuming you're referring to California's massive 55 Electoral votes?

The total number of Electoral College votes is the sum of each State's US Congressional Representatives and Senators.

There 435 US Congressional Representatives slots are distributed based on population, and of course each State gets its 2 Senators.

So if California left then its 53 Rep slots would be distributed to other States, unless a new law were passed changing the apportionment.

Without doing the math I couldn't give an educated guess on what States would get how many seats but the point is that a number of its Rep seats and by extension its EC votes will no doubt end up in Blue States.

Of course when we citizens cast our vote for President we're actually voting for electors, so if a redistribution of seats yielded increases to Blue States that totaled near the original 55 then the Democrats would still have command of that block.

    --

There is also another thing to consider: the House of Representatives.

California has 53 reps, of those 39 are Democrat, but lets say they all go and now we have to redistribute 53 seats throughout the nation.

Because of the way apportionment works the 53 seats would end up being allocated to 53 new districts.

How would those 53 new districts be created?

Well again, because of the way apportionment works, they would be created as the result of fracturing population dense areas, aka large cities.

Now how do large cities typically vote? ...Democrat.

So lets say the 'before' was a State with 10 seats 9 Red and 1 Blue where the blue was the largest city, and now the 'after' is a State with 11 seats 9 Red and 2 Blue.

Copy paste that 52 more times, what happened?

We just took 14 Red and 39 Blue seats, redistributed them, and created 53 new Blue seats.

    We just ****ed ourselves.

If California leaves the Union then we MUST, repeat MUST, change apportionment.

But if Cali secedes they no longer have federal voting privileges so all their 'blue' seats become irrelevant, correct?

Who is going to pay for the disability and welfare for all the poor red states if California goes? It is not like those states can make it without the help of the blue ones.

All of California won't go. If it did, California would have its own civil war.

They will not be able to accomplish this, but to the sake of the argument let's say they succeed.
    1. Democrats will have a hard time winning the White House.
    2. Their economy(if cut off from U.S.) will decline, similarly to what happened to various republics of USSR after its collapse in 1991.
    3. Outside of big cities, California does not have a large democratic following.

Here is what will likely happen if they were to announce that they are leaving the Union (which will likely never happen)
    1. The president sends in the army and overthrows their leadership.
    2. California is temporarily occupied by the federal government.
    3. California is divided into smaller states.

Dividing California into smaller states might actually be a good solution. I believe there was proposal to divide it into six states. It would give voices to people outside of big cities and it would make it easier to manage.

People living in California wouldn't have Representation but the number of total seats in Congress is a static thing.

The loss of California would mean 2 seats in the Senate go away entirely but the 53 seats in the House of Reps would be redistributed to other States based on apportionment via population.

53 new districts would be created and because of "math reasons" they would be created by fracturing densely packed districts.

Therein lies the problem; densely packed districts typically vote Democrat.

So depending on where and how those new districts were created the Dems could actually gain more power in Congress as a result of Cali leaving.

Heh heh....the Trumpsters are threatened by California, which is 15 years
ahead of the rest of the country. It's great. The GOP Regressive Party has a serious
    date with reality.

California feeds this nation and pays a disproportionately large slice of it's credit card bill. We aren't going anywhere. You need us more than we need you.
