The guy on my Avatar is Robespierre. I don't appreciate that much Voltaire.

I like the Cardinal of Richelieu, he had a very pragmatic way of seing things rather than dogmatic. He helped to open a lot of academies and did a lot for french culture.

" If you give me six sentences written by the most innocent of men,
I will find something in them with which to hang them."

Sounds pretty doggone dogmatic to me.
Insisted upon often with an unconsidered rejection of criticism.
That be the guy.Such arrogance France was not accustomed.

    He didn't said that actually.
Richelieu despite being a catholic cardinal didn't persecuted the protestants, yet many catholic encouraged him to do so.
Richelieu was quite cynical however, and he was the kind of man for who the end justify the means.

Henri IV before him, with Louis XIII the son of Henri IV and the dad of Louis XIV, would participate in making France a super power, from an economic, cultural and military point of view. Before that the kingdom of France was devastated by the religion wars.

However, I don't appreciate him for being "nice", but for being a wise administrator.

The Life and times of Richelieu were not France's best of times.
History is divided as to his character.Whether merely a henchman for the
empowered King Louis XIII where his power was undeniably tethered to
the King and utility of the Kingdom.Where one wrong move could cost him
being thrown out of France.Richelieu had to walk a fine line.
Plus the Nobility in France had become effeminate and unruly.
Court Intrigue and corruption were the order of the day.
With the advent of the Thirty years war the constant threat of the
Hapsburgs trying to snare the French and control France.
Plus Spain had a Richelieu of their own in Gaspar de Guzman.
    Just as formidable.
Plus the conundrum where much of France was Catholic,it was
    still France's greatest enemy.Them Catholics.
Kind of the equivalent of Todays Democrats.Where many are
Catholic.Like I dunno ... Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden just to name
    a couple.

I would agree on nobles becoming effeminate and unruly, unfortunately, it's somethign that happen in a regular way in history, either for the romans or the french nobility.
Difficulties make us better, and even if we flee them, there is nothing worse that not having difficulties, one reason that era is cursed.

But tolerance and a spiritual influence should trump the
belligerence of an uppity, unwaivering King like King Henry VIII.
Unless History is unbothered by what happened to Sir Thomas More.
Whose head lay hanging on a pike for a month over London Bridge.

Everything is a matter of balance. I think that strict discipline is necessary to achieve greatness, however, too much rigidity and violence is negative aswell.

Technically speaking all that Matters is matter itself. For without a
    speck of matter,nothing exists.
And belief in Nothingness is called being a Nihilist.
Which doesn't require kneeling.A little peeling maybe.
If a bad boy or girl. Therefore back to the kitchen and finish
    peeling them potatoes.

uncertainly speaking heisenberg said it is impossible to measure both the position and velocity of matter at the same time, even in theory.

Do many people unfairly blame you? If yes, then it follows that you are a 3,000 year old goat. Thus you deserve respect for your age.

Who am I? I have registered in 2014, thus on this forum I am 6 yo. My main email is 20 yo.
All 7 of me are banned on Twitter. On Runescape I am among top 0.5% of players -- rank around 140,000 out of 35+ million.

Offline I seem to be a 50 yo man. It could be argued that Offline World is more real then any forum, email or game. Nevertheless, there may be a Deeper Reality behind Offline World. Anyone of us can indeed be a 3,000 year old goat.
