"Check your privilege" is a super cringey thing to say.

"We've seen the president and his enablers peddle in lies and conspiracy theories. They denigrate experts, data, and science. And then, as fears of the coronavirus loom, who's going to protect public health? Science experts using data in the face of lies and conspiracy theories."-Dan Rather

There is a reason why incompetence is bad! Contradictions can be deadly.

The World Health Organization declared on Thursday that the coronavirus epidemic in China now constitutes a public health emergency of international concern as death toll surges.

Trump says Coronavirus outbreak will "have a very good ending for us." That Donald, always the optimist!

The official message from the President of the United States from Donald Trump is DON'T WORRY!

(A historical note: When Donald Trump's father, Fred Trump, was walking with grandfather Friedrich Trump one day in 1918, Friedrich Trump suddenly dropped over dead...from the Spanish Flu).

Only when you refuse to accept your privilege.
Mind you, the privilege of a western healthcare system would only be temporary in the event of a widespread pandemic. No one has spare capacity if cases start running into 10's or even 100's of thousands of infected people.

The Free Market will take care of it!

When everyone is dead, the market supply-demand curve will be in perfect stochastic equilibrium with zero inflation!

You got to look on the bright side.

 Indeed, "western healthcare " may a little time.

But the USA, unlike all the other 1st world countries, makes its ability to have healthcare work by simply ignoring the 20% or 30% (economically, age, income) lower class people to keep the higher class people to have somewhat working.

What's going to be a bit of shock to the higher class people in the epidemic is that some of the lower class people are needed for the upper classes to survive and do well.

Why wig out when you can buy a can of Lysol to kill the virus? This is just a government exercise to evaluate how easy it is to drive people into hysteria. So stock up on Lysol and chill.

Watch this video and stop it at the 22 second mark. Look at the blue label , 6th line from the bottom and you will see "human corona virus" as one the the things Lysol is effective against. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...B23FB322B308B3D69BD9B23FB322B308B3D&FORM=VIRE

I checked one of my cans, made in 2018, but it does not list the "human corona virus." I will check it when I go to the store if they haven't pulled all of it from stock. It kills everything from HIV/AIDs to polio to athlete foot.

A new virus, people dying. and your source of pleasure is class warfare. Oh, that’s not good.

Bureaucrats covering their asses, not solving the problem. I have never had to go to a hospital because I had a fever, cough, and diarrhea. Get rest, drink plenty of liquids, take Tylenol, eat unbuttered toast and chicken noodle soup.

We defeated Polio, Small Pox, Measles, Cholera, Mumps, Chicken Pox, Scarlet Fever, and almost had Malaria wiped off the the planet until murderous man-hating environmentalists fooled scientific illiterate politicians into banning DDT.

Call Roche. Call Xpize. Call the press and announce a One Billion dollar award to the first person to create a vaccine. Let’s get with it, scientists—people are getting sick and dying, the world is going hysterical, and there’s money to be made.

    One billion dollar award?

For the pharmaceutical companies, a billion dollars is the rounding error for Botox and Boob bags market.

Not counting on them, counting on an unknown “John Galt” type mind-independent, objective, scientific, and profit-seeking. Of course, not wanting to be a slave to humanity, he may have walked out on Mankind.

Odd. About 40,000 are buying each year from not having medical in the USA, which no other 1st world country allows in per capita, indeed, it is not "a source of pleasure" to me.

But the conservatives, the independents, the "John Galts" and Ayn Rands, all are fine watching so many very old, young, poor, disabled and more ar fine watching, or at least ignore, the people that all the sudden are of concern. Yeah, right!

Btw, if a John Galt had the ability or interest to come up with a vaccine to inoculate people against this coronavirus, his correct proper procedure to do the similar procedure the pharmaceutical corporations would do! Patent, lock up any possible associated patents even if having no chance of winning but just stop anyone else can help, buy out any political leaders, and then make a price-point high enough that half of the people could pay the high cost of the vaccine, and allow the ones who can pay it die to keep the prices as possible.

Any economist will assure that kind of the proper price will reap the highest profit while the lower wealth people get nothing.

Ah, I’m too busy living to worry about the dying. But it’s still a semi-free country, so feel semi-free and worry. Let me know if it solves anything.

As to John Galt, you are right, he’d demand every penny of profit he could earn. Seems fair enough, your life for gold. Isn’t your life worth it?

I can understand people who have never been sick enough to go to the hospital, and I understand people who aren't worrying about dying for people who don't have a personal idea what in the kind of hell a person can have to be laying in a cot or a street corner or a street bench without heat or medicine or anyone to help, but there are times where I wonder just carefree people like that will be in the possible incoming crisis. I will be videoing some who see if they are the same. (I just got some of the fairly hard to get respirators I wanted. At only 3 times the usual price!)

For many of John Galts there there are plenty of "John Galts" who use a lot of very very whose concept of "earned" their profit is very loosely defined. These people are happy to use up other people, use laws to game the system, and when anything went for himself, he was glad to grab any value around to increase his cash and then bankrupt people and businesses and taxpayers, and try it all again. Or even if he hadn't failed, bankruptcies were just another way to steel other people's money.

(A true "John Galt" can't file bankruptcy in any form and also couldn't do a corporation, only a Sole Proprietary or full Partnership is the only option for a "John Galt", which is of course why there aren't any of them at all.)

    Maybe going to work?
Trying to get medication for the baby or their kids or the wife or mother or grandparents?

Eating is maybe better in China than in America, beetles, bugs, long tested recipes for rats, pigeons, cats and dogs and bats! Sadly, Americans are a little more pickier than that, at least to start with!

Maybe I am a bit frustrated, a longterm friend 66yo with lifetime disability but did managed to make a living for some time, but now is all the way down. She lives on $960 per month, gets some help with some of her medications but she is living on so little. No of the wonderful steak and nice clothes and new cars so many of people here say the disabled supposedly get to live on.

We, she's having some difficulties because she had $140 food stamps, but Trump just cuts so her food stamps dropped to $12 per month. With her $700 month rent, heat of 40 to $100, medicines, other requirements, there is simply not budgets for food and other essentials.

But's OK. She simply made bad choices in her heredity. Her father, a extremely religious well to do man with a lifetime of pilot and has his own plane, says that if a child get make by it's own way (it is what he calls her), then "its appropriate that nature should take its course"!

It Christian conservative religious circles, that is not a uncommon attitude. I am going to watch what "course" Nature makes in this course. It may bit interesting.

It may also be a shock to discover that viruses don't respect class barriers.

I’m inclined to agree with the dad, though I’m not a religious conservative—I’m an atheist who is a radical for Individual Rights, Capitalism, and Reason, and who agrees with and supports Ayn Rand’s philosophy of Objectivism.

As to the virus, stop it’s replication process, problem solved.

Call Roche. Call Japan. Call Shionogi. Buy some Xofluza. Find a way to attack the virus protein; find a way to protect the host cell DNA enzymes; find a way to destroy the virus’ DNA enzymes. This well stop replication. Just find a way. Think! And clean up those damn open air meat and food markets.

And yet, for all of their 5,000 years of recorded history, China has had "those damn open air meat and food markets" -- and somehow they managed to grow the largest population of any country on Earth.... :confusion:

Sure, nobody wants to eat dog or monkey meat that's been butchered on a street corner, but it seems likely that there's some other important factors that haven't made the news (yet)....
