It looked to me like the one who was butt hurt and got himself into trouble was the old indian man who caused the trouble. Guess the kid will have his day in court.

The news media are delivering what too many of us seem to want.

Take Ferguson, MO. News media across the spectrum were whooping up the conflict when even after weeks of reporting, outside activists like Al Sharpton and Antifa attracted like moths to a light, the flap was confined to a few blocks of the main street. I remember seeing a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation story on Ferguson where the CBC interviewed a black guy living one block away from the main street in front of really nice homes. The guy was complaining omnipresent police were making it difficult to get to his two jobs. Is it surprising poor people plunked down in a housing project in a middle class community with nothing to do would emerge from sweatbox apartments into the streets and get into problems?

TV viewers around the country were hyped into thinking all hell was breaking lose when the truth was the exact opposite.

I'd like to see the news media slapped down for hyping the news, but we're complicit in creating incentives for them to do exactly what they're doing.

Prediction noted. If he can show damages, he has a good chance of getting a settlement.

I agree. As voters, we are also responsible for the corruption and incompetence in our federal government.

Of course Sandmann can show damages, not only to himself but also to his family, otherwise his lawyer wouldn't have taken the case. But that's not the point. The point is that the media doesn't care about destroying the reputation of others for their liberal agenda.

What the media did was pick up a concocted version of what happened from a far left social media group, and without checking into the story they immediately began defaming the student and his family. The lawyer said CNN was worse than the Washington Post in that it flashes the news all over the world.

This case is a matter of principal and reminds me of Melania when she sued a British paper. She doesn't need the money, but refused to back down after they had calumniated her. She wanted it to be a lesson to them, and that they can't destroy reputations at will. I, and I believe millions of others would like to see this become a good lesson for news outlets like the Washington Post, CNN, etc.

From what I can tell, this is a land mark case, and I don't think they would be willing to settle out of court - all though I'm sure they'll only get a small percentage of the money they're asking for.

It will be interesting to see what happens. We can assume that things would be different if he was wearing an Im With Hillary hat!

If I was on such a jury I would award the young man one dollar for this CNN tort but if I was on another jury dealing with any repeat any misdeed of Fox I would vote for a billion dollars award. Nothing like using the legal system to go after news outlets you disagree with now is there.

Fox news isn't innocent in the fake news business, I realized that when they were reporting on Maidan in Ukraine, and how they were hiding reality. Frankly I can't read any of the MSM. My stomach is sensitive, and the lies make me sick.

I hope this will be a landmark case so our country can turn around from the destructive path it's on, and return to its former integrity.

Back all the way to the early 1800s when it would have gotten you for a prison sentence for stating the fact that Trump is an idiot.

Oh for the good old days when Adam was president.

The media agenda is making money, not promoting a "liberal agenda."

I think the news media get a fair bit of leeway on reporting stories.

And lawyers know which cases to take on.

But not necessarily with the belief they'll win the case.

So you think that lawyers do not decide which cases to take on based on its merit? We will see what happens.

I think lawyers sometimes take cases they believe they may lose for publicity or principle.

Is that because having a reputation for losing cases helps their career?

No, it's because publicity and/or "fighting the good fight" can be good for business.

I don't think I will be placing much weight on your words from this point forward. Thanks for the discussion.

Back in the good old days it wasn't politically correct to insult ad nauseum. There was a certain amount of decorum, and people were ostracized if they acted in a vulgar, insulting and crude way. The Americans were respected for their courtesy and charity, and this is what made America great - not the mafia tactics that are being used today.

Of course not everyone fit into that mold, there were many deviants but relatively speaking we were more humane than most of the world - if not all of the world. We also looked nicer, even during the depression, now we all look like pigs. Is this what greatness is? Come on!

Another person who do not read history books?????

President Washington was held in such high regards no one insult him as president however that did not apply to the following presidents.

It got so very bad for Adam that he have congress pass a law outlawing insulting him and his administration.

Jefferson while the secretary of state and Hamilton while the secretary of the treasury each help fund newspapers with government work/contacts that they then employed attacking each other in very personal ways.

President Jefferson was so insulting to the then British Ambassador that he ended up refusing to bring his wife to any of President Jefferson gatherings.

No not from the very first was we a very polite people.

Good luck winning the case; CNN is known for dragging cases out in the court system for as long as 20+ years; Sandmann will most likely see retirement before he see's any money from CNN.
