Really? Ok, cite the US code that defines it, or cite the constitutional avenue through which you get here.

That would sum up the Mueller probe also.

No, supporting the concept of the rule of law is the idea.

And, our top officials are not the ones doing document delivery.

Oversight comes from the broad array of enumerated powers of congress.

Without the right of oversight, it wouldn't be possible for congress to carry out those powers.

The argument is that Congress could not write appropriate law concerning the actions of the executive branch (which it is clearly required to do) without having the right to examine the current situation.

On what grounds is the White House refusing to cooperate? Do they have a legal basis for that resistance, and Nadler and company don't have a legal basis for their demands? What does the Constitution say about separation of powers?

Claiming action you like is Constitutional, without knowing whether it is or not, is what I mean by "hiding behind it".

    Banana republics have laws

They just enforce them selectively the way the Deep State and democrats on washington are doing

So your answer is, no. You cannot actually cite either US code or Constitutional avenue. So, as we're seeing today, Congress is just conducting witch hunts because they aren't aware of anyone who can tell them not to, and they can entirely ignore the 4th 5th 8th amendments because they are butt hurt. Got it.

It still, doesn't' give them the authority to tell the White House what to do. The White House doesn't answer to the oversight committee.

It isn't up to me to decide whether AOC should get a clearance. If she can get a clearance no problem. Some folks in the WH were given clearances. Some were delayed until the FBI finished clearing them. It's normal for new administrations to have problems getting clearances done in a short period of time. All that said the White House doesn't answer to the oversight committee. If the committee has a problem then they can fight it in court like the Republicans had to with Holder and Obama when they ignored subpoenas.

There is no disagreement in government that the duties of congress include oversight of the executive branch.

If you want to point out that it is a derived power, fine. But, the idea that it doesn't exist is just absolute nonsense that NOBODY who matters agrees with. Nobody.

    ??
The legislative branch tells the executive branch "what to do" by passing legislation. That is what legislation IS!!

And, if their oversight uncovers serious crimes, they have authority in taking action on that - up to and including removing the president from office.

    Exactly.

In Trump's first 2 years the "oversight" was non-existent (b/c of the Complicit GOP House).

Now Trump's cronies are Crying (and Whining) like Babies (b/c House Oversight is actually doing it's job).

    Too funny.

    Exactly.

We're now working through a Republican legacy of ignoring crime when they think it is in their political interest.

If we think these things are not crime, we should take them off the books.

We should pass a law that says lying under oath is just fine.

We should pass a law that says bank and insurance fraud is OK.

We should pass a law that says working for a foreign country is just fine, even if you do it undercover from positions of significance in our own government. Spies are just fine. Top secret information can just be handed out freely. Tampering with elections is OK, too, because why should a democracy be concerned about elections?

We should pass a law that says it's OK for Manafort to fail to pay $15M in taxes, because we have lots of middle class workers ready to take on more load in paying for our military, etc.

OR - maybe it's time to CLEAN the F'ing Executive Branch and get back to how America was designed to work!

Corruption is SOP for the Republicans and their followers so they have to be kept in check somehow.

Well, then.. It should be an easy exercise for you to document your position here.. right? I mean if "everyone knows this"... as you assert, you should be able to get the googly to spit out some answers for you here. Oh, and careful dredging up oversight, as clearly, there is also a method for both within the judiciary as well as the executive of providing their own unique measures of oversight. Just sayin. Feel free to squirm some more here.
