There appears to be some confusion here.

Medicaid is Single Payer and works!

The ACA is the same as the original Republican Heritage Foundation plan that was implemented as Romneycare and then the ACA. It still has the major shortcoming of using private greedy healthcare insurers that are the primary driver of increased costs.

As far as "coverage requirements" goes that applies to ALL insurance. When you buy homeowners insurance you are covering people who do stupid things like plunge a frozen turkey into a pot of boiling oil on their stove and burn their house down. Your car insurance covers idiots who drive drunk. Your life policy covers imbeciles that go swimming in shark infested seas.

Why should health insurance be any different?

You jumped in to support Rooster's bogus allegation and now find yourself unable to do so.

    That is not my problem.

Onus is always on you to make your own points clearly and concisely.

If you can't that too is not my problem.

    Nope!

The Rooster made VERY SPECIFIC CLAIMS alleging that "we have been hearing" from "every single democrat" for the "past month".

Since that was such obvious nonsense I called him out on in it prove it and he can't and neither can you because it was utterly and completely bogus!

According to the rules of civil debate when you make a claim and you are called upon to substantiate it you forfeit your position when you can't and that reflects negatively on your credibility and your other positions in the future.

The smart move for you to make is to disassociate yourself from the Rooster's ridiculous allegation. Trying to defend it just puts yourself in a weak position which makes no sense.

It doesn't need to be. A risk tax like I suggested in another thread would dramatically level the field. There is no reason why we can't pay for increased health risk with a point of purchase health tax. That money all goes into the health care system to pay for the added cost of risky lifestyle choices. And the best part is that insurance companies already have good data on risky activities.

For example: A fairly straightforward calculation shows that a $2 tax per pack of cigs would pay for 100% of the direct health care costs associated with smoking. Unfortunately cigs are already taxed at a higher rate but NONE of that goes to health care.

Good chatting with you too, JaC. :)

Yes, Medicare as Single Payer only covers about 20% of the nation but expanding it to cover everyone is the quickest, easiset and best way to convert to Single Payer.

And shown to be more cost effective than private insurance.

The huge hidden benefit is the vast reduction in paperwork and regulations by going to single payer. This allows doctors and nurses to be medical experts instead of insurance experts.

While I have no problem whatsoever with taxes on risky lifestyle choices I don't see how that it is going to work.

My primary reason for that is because not everyone makes risky lifestyle choices but everyone needs healthcare sooner or later.

And here is the biggest problem with what you are proposing.

According to that same health insurance data just living past 60 is a "risky lifestyle choice" as far as they are concerned.

Are you proposing to force the elderly living on fixed incomes to pay higher taxes?

I said lifestyle choices, not life. One of the biggest drivers for health care cost is obesity. In most cases, obesity results from lifestyle choices - junk food, fast food, high sugar, high fat... While it is true that we all will need health care. It is not true that we all have heart attacks at age 40 and go on disability. Lifestyle choices have cost consequences that can be determined statistically and taxed accordingly.

In France, when you go snow skiing, you pay for the added health risk when you buy your lift ticket.

There is some minimum base price for health care that we all need to pay. Added costs due to risky choices can be averaged and taxed. It is a mandatory, pay-as-you-go risk policy, that you would pay into your entire life from the first time you buy a candy bar.

This protects us from having our right of choice taken away. If my choices cost you money, you DO have a right to object. But if I pay for my choices, you have no basis to limit my choices.

If I understand you correctly you are just proposing a national tax on anything that contributes to an unhealthy lifestyle with those taxes going directly into paying for Single Payer insurance?

This would include the purchase of swimming pools, paintball guns, ladders or anything at all that contains a warning label?

To one degree or another, yes. It would need to be simplified. For example, apply a 5% tax on all sporting goods.

To an extent you already pay for health insurance on things like ladders. The ladder company pays for that through liability insurance. And that cost is reflected in the price.

I posted this point late and wanted to emphasize it. This is a fundamental problem where my liberty is in conflict with your liberty. A risk tax solves that problem.

That is already covered in your homeowners insurance. So a percentage of those revenues would go into the national system and any injuries would be covered. I say a percentage because there is still the issue of law suits. But those should be reduced if any injuries are already covered. Unless there is negligence there is no reason to sue.

    http://blog.al.com/wire/2012/02/researchers_say_sugar_should_b.html

The basic argument is that sugar has health consequences just as significant as any other drug.

And nothing republicans ever considered. Nice try but FAIL! Dems can run away all the want from their Obamacare but they are tar and feathered with it.

As a Vietnam Vet (Thailand)- I have experience with VA health care going back to 1968. If the VA is a good example of Government run health care, I'm afraid single payer is not the panacea you seem to think.

The Va healthcare system is single payer and it's patients are dying due to wait times and quality of care is not something you want to subject the whole country to. But you do, don't you.

Why do people in the British National Health Care Plan have a heart disease mortality rate 36% higher than the United States?

Why is Canadian health care ranked last in waiting times?

American's won't know about the problems until after it's already been forced on them.

I see you want proof that all Democrats support Obamacare. Tell me, if they don't, isn't anyone proposing legislation to improve it?

The difference between Trump and Obama?

Outside of the fact that Obama had previously held elective office and has about 100 IQ points on Trump?

January 1993, Hillarycare task force, with Hillary as chair, formed to come up with a universal health plan.

February 1993 The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons sued Hillary for over closed door meetings of health care plans. Hillary lost and the AAPS was awarded $285,864

August 1994 Democrats official drop Hillarycare.

Hillary had 19 month to fail. Trump had two.

Here is an example of HillaryThink when it comes to health care. In 1997, the Clinton administration supported a program that paid medical schools to train fewer doctors because America had too many. (Nice way to drive up Physician cost)
