Because he is lying. Sober people know this.

One of the big advantages I have over other men in my world is the fact that I don't drink. I quit drinking on my 21st birthday.

Young women enjoy being with a man who is able to have an intelligent conversation AND get an erection.

[I do have an occasional glass of champagne if the lady wants some Dom, but that's about it.]

People that drink a lot tend to be way better drunks then people that only drink here and there.

I quit about the same time, too. I had a drinking problem -- I didn't know when to stop. I finally realized that if I don't start, I don't have to worry about stopping.
What pushed me was reading research that discovered drinking kills brain cells - I figured I need all of them I have.

I never felt good when I drank. Only years later did I understand that it was my blood sugar. Almost any booze at all sends me into a blood sugar crisis. But back then I only knew I felt more terrible than other people do when they drink.

Interestingly, beer is the worst. It turns out that each maltose molecule [in beer] immediately converts to two glucose molecules when you drink. So even though the label on beer says there is no sugar, in a sense it is twice as bad as sugar! That's why most beer drinkers end up being fat.

Something else interesting: We have an enzyme just for breaking down maltose. Strange.

I also grew up around drunks and decided I NEVER wanted to be like that.

I hate people who get too "touchy feely" when drunk. Those are the worst type of people there is and should not be allowed to drink. :p

Lol. I hate all kinds of body contact (autist alert lol) and it is one of the primary reasons i despise nightclubs; packed with drunktards who not only breathe on you from all angles, but also rub on you from all angles. On top of all this there is loud music and bright lights that makes you nauseous and bouncers who are all absolute tools. Ugh.

I'm a huge fan of body contact but not with drunks! :D

When I stopped drinking, a lot of things I thought were cool suddenly seemed stupid. Booze completely tweaks your perspective even when you're sober.

I personally believe that many wars could have been avoided were it not for a bunch of drunks in power. How many critical decision have been made while under the influence of ether? [Getting drunk is just getting high on ether] In fact, drunks are just drug addicts.

In fact, few drugs can get someone as intoxicated as booze can. And a hangover is just the price for alcohol poisoning.

It would be interesting to know what percentage of alcoholics support Trump. I would bet it approaches 100%

    Correction: Make that "proud alcoholics".

I drink because for one I personally enjoy the taste of whiskey, and I will admit that I do enjoy being intoxicated. For me the thought process is simple, being drunk makes being bored a lot less boring and it also makes things I enjoy even more enjoyable. I spend much of my time alone and I drink alone the majority of the time. No that's not a sign of alcoholism that's a sign of being an anomaly at my age by being single with no children while everyone else my age has a family and is usually unable to hang out lol.

So if I'm sober sitting here watching TV or a movie or something I'll tend to just watch the movie. But if I'm buzzed watching sports or a movie I get more "in" to it...which basically equates to me getting excited and/or yelling at the TV when my team does something stupid. Just makes the experience more "fun". It makes playing video games more fun too. Overall it's just a fun experience and I can rest assured knowing that I am safe inside of my own house and cannot get myself into any trouble or embarrassment in here. When I'm done drinking I can simply walk upstairs and lay down and go to sleep without worrying about getting home or anything like that.

To me I am able to have much more fun while drinking at home just by having the peace of mind knowing that no matter what happens I am already home and I can't get myself into any sort of trouble in my own house. Plus I don't like being around drunk people that I don't know. While I myself am a calm and humble drunk I know full well that not everybody else is and I don't particularly like that.

IF you are happy being alone....Good on you, have a blast.

IF not...consider that the drinking may be one of the reasons you are alone.

Naw me being alone has to do with my job that keeps me busy to the point of being virtually unable to do much of anything besides work and sleep. Plus I live in a small town to where the only places to socialize with anybody at all are a handful of hole in the wall bars and that's literally it. I could date a handful of women right now but I don't see any future in those relationships and it would be rude and selfish of me to date somebody when I know full well that we don't connect enough to establish a long term relationship. Problem is that what I'm looking for is becoming difficult to come by, a single woman around my age with no children who has similar interests as I do. By the time folks get my age they usually have children by now and after a previous relationship with a woman who had a child i don't want to do that sort of thing again. So I wait. I'm in no hurry, I'd much rather wait until I find what I want rather than settle for less simply because I was tired of waiting.

And so since I do like to drink sometimes and nobody is available to drink with me and I don't particularly like drinking around drunken strangers in a bar, I drink alone at the house when I feel like having a whiskey or 2.

You must say "manly man " with an Arnold Schwarzenegger (sp) accent. hey,he did start a fashion thread...:shh: ( twilight music starts to play in the bg)

To a point what you say is true, but much depends on your tolerance. Just don't be a drunk parent and damage your kids.

Alcohol has been known to cause all my clothes to fall off, but beyond that, I am not a particularly pissy drunk.

Ether and alcohol (ethanol) are two different things.

Yes, but it is my understanding that by the time the alcohol is metabolized, you are really getting high on ether. In either case they are very similar and act about the same.

    Synthesis of Ethers

There are several methods for the synthesis of ethers starting from alcohols:
