Absolutely. Moderation is good with almost everything except sex.

At my age, I'll settle for moderation.

All beef hot dogs can contain up to 29% chicken.

Is that something the FDA allows?

Evidence for that claim. Per the FDA, all beef hot dogs can only contain meat from a single species.

The FDA has nothing to do with hot dogs. It's the USDA. And, no, that is not allowed. Beef franks can only contain beef, and no meat by products.

Wait. So you think most Americans can afford fresh fruits and vegetables and fresh cuts of meat daily?

    Too bad. Sounded interesting.

Full disclosure—I was raised “Adventist” and still know a lot of church members. I’ve been out of the loop so long I wouldn’t know what the “official position “ on vegetarianism is. I would guess the 30% is pretty accurate over my lifetime. It’s regionally influenced. Out here in cow country it isn’t as common as in somewhere like Seattle. :)

I never heard the church push vegetarianism from an ethics or animal welfare position but I’d guess that is probably changing. I read something a few years ago that claimed 70% of Adventists identified as progressives/liberals.

For what it’s worth, it’s pretty well accepted in the scientific community that Adventists are healthier and live longer than the general population. I don’t think it’s all attributable to diet though.

Well, very few people apply logic or reason to their eating so I’d say not much! I think the blame for the food pyramid goes to government and agri business supported by bad science and cherry picking science. Just my opinion.

The meat you are eating is not the same they ate years ago. If they found that people are living into their 90s eating red meat on a regular basis, it doesn't take into account the changes in the beef industry. For the most part, beef is a corn product. Hormones and antibiotics help protect profits. Cows are not the only ones getting fatter much quicker. Those who eat them seems to be getting fatter much quicker.

If you do eat beef, try grass-fed, no antibiotics.

I'm not really interested in doing the research again tried something on hand I would share it with you but I don't.

I've met a few Adventists they seem to be nice enough people.

But as far as the development of nutrition this goes back to the 1800s to 1900s. They may be pretty progressive now but back in those days they had some pretty bizarre views.

Well the government trusted nutritionists at the time who were overwhelmingly Seventh-Day Adventists.

I'm not saying they're dumb I'm not saying their ideas are wrong I'm just saying they have a bias that they do not wish to recognize.

But those animal fats, meat and dairy, help with the use of insulin and preventing insulin resistance in humans. That is why diabetics, 1&2, are told to eat dairy and meat and not use low-fat or non-fat products. There are studies I've read about that make the case that the movement against meat and dairy has contributed to increased rates of type 2 diabetes.

    No worries.

They are just people. Good ones, bad ones, etc.

Ha ha. I think progressive views are bizarre now. :)

I’d have to see something to back that up. I’ve never heard of any Adventist advising government on nutrition.

Some are dumb. Some take diet to extremes that are very unhealthy. I’ve seen it. But as a group they are healthier and longer lived than about any other demographic. And yes, some are biased. But they’ll be biased longer than others. :)

I’m trying to connect the dots. You said they made up the food pyramid (which was created in this country in 1988 I believe) and said Adventists dominated nutrition and medicine in the 20 th century. It’s just confusing to have these claims without any evidence.

I’m not trying to put words in your mouth or be difficult, I just don’t see any reason to believe the food pyramid or US dietary policy has/had anything at all to do with Adventists. The food pyramid originated in Sweden.

I'm sorry you are confused. But it likely isn't over anything I said.

    Okay, don't believe me.

eating meat is not bad for people, but fasting every now and then is healthy

I would say one should eat meat at least once a week, preferably more

what is bad for people is eating fat and sugar mixed together, like in a doughnut, especially with trans fats and seed oils

high insulin is what is causing all the metabolic diseases society sees today, to many grains and sugar

Adventists are a big part of the push in the anti-meat movement around the world

most people know what people are talking about when they talk about processed food, yes cooking vegetable technically makes vegetables a processed food, but that is not the common meaning

but I agree on the word natural, heart healthy, low fat, ect as used by the corporations

Yes most people are idiots. that's why we hear about people talking about chemicals as if they're the worst thing ever not understanding that all matter is chemical.

It's why the certified non-GMO project is a thing. It's because consumers are idiots. That's why marketing works.

how about the no sugar added, then you find a product is filled with natural sugars

what really upset me is when they started adding pink slim to hamburger... leave hamburger alone
