I believe the useless degrees, etc., can be decided by stats.

Why do you equate 'trained & educated" with a college degree? I have a degree. As did my mother and all three of my sisters. I have an idea about what a college "education" involves.

Four year degree programs are vastly overrated.

Yeah, funny how you never hear a woman who got paid $430K/year to teach at Harvard propose that professors should do their jobs for free.

Look at the body count. Subtract the number of US Soldiers killed in Syria from the number killed in GOP trillion dollar turd hunts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Pretty big number. Now subtract the amount of money spent in Syria from the amount spent in Afghanistan and Iraq.....HUGE NUMBER...Recent GOP blunders have cost more than any free stuff Democrats could ever dream of. However, that said, Trump has not started any idiotic wars yet and he is even talking about getting the hell out of that region we never should have invaded and occupied in the first place. Credit where credit union is do to the Prez.

Oh wait, that was the 'antiwar' leftist establishment pushing for conflict with Russia...

I feel pretty stupid now. I worked hard, scrimped and saved and sacrificed, was frugal and made responsible decisions, and was able to pay for my daughter's education in full without loans. Damn was I stupid.

Okay, so if all these loans are going to be forgiven, wouldn't fairness say that I should get a rebate? But seriously, I don't want a rebate. I want the people who took the loans from the taxpayer to pay the taxpayer back. Good grief.l

I am guessing the above is sarcasm and maybe rightly so, but consider there are plenty of former enlisted Navy corpsman (or to quote Obama corpse man) and Army medics still that have seen more trauma than most doctors will ever see.

Left wings schools should practice what they preach and pay professors the same salary as they pay janitors and the lawn maintenance people.

Wow, $640 Billion spent to improve future generations.

Hell, that's just a fraction of the $22 Trillion missing from Pentagon coffers. :floating:

    1) is this a degree or a certification program? Because most Jr. colleges have a surgical tech program that awards an Associate degree. I looked in to at one point
    2) When you say she held the spinal column, and put screws in? Did she put the screws in or she held the spinal column well the Dr. put the screws in? Because the former would be a major violation of her scope of practice.

I agree with both of you.

I scrimped and saved and worked thru college and graduated without any student loans. (I'm 41, for whatever that is worth.)

Forgiving student debt rewards irresponsibility and is a slap in the face to the people who had to work harder to get by without it.

What next, a generation of graduates who think it is ok to agree to borrow money and never pay it back?

College is not immune to supply-and-demand. If people would quit applying to ridiculously expensive colleges ---- or if they would quit applying for low paying and/or obscure degrees, and if they would quit spending money on ridiculously useless classes ---- colleges would would be forced to adjust.

While I agree with her that college is way too expensive, I disagree to make it "free". This just devalues the degree and prompts students to not take their studies seriously. Students need to have some skin in the game. That's why, for my kids, I save for their college, but I want them to contribute some as well.

The dems would be wise to highlite that DeVos wants to end the policy of debt forgiveness in exchange for public service by college grads.

If I'm not mistaken, the loans were made by various banks and lending institutions. The only role the government had was in guaranteeing those loans. It was a scam.

I assume it is a certification program as she gave the date she has to take her national board certification exams.

It is my understanding that she held the spinal column while the surgeon built the cage around it and when the surgeon was putting the screws in he invited her to put some of them in herself as he was apparently impressed with her assistance. she has told me there is a very wide range about what surgeons are willing to allow the technicians in training to do. Some surgeons will not even allow them in the OR.

If what your saying happened, and unless she had a skill check off that said she could do this procedure, and laws in your state allowed that STs to do that procdure, then your daughter violated her Scope of Practice. It dosn't matter if MD says "oh yea go ahead and do that" no, no, no. The scope of practice is what she is legally allowed do as a ST.
    Here an an example
I'm an EMT, I have knowledge of how to cricotomy. In the movies, is where they take a knife and a straw or something and stick in to someones neck to help the breath. I have knowledge of how do that, I can't perform that because it is outside of my scope.

Given the large number of low information voters we have certainly failed with respect to education. For example, we continuously see people posting in this forum that don't know basic of government, something that used to be taught in high school.

To explain the failure of our education system we should look at the percentage of liberals who enter the teaching profession.

Yeah, because you're improving the lives of future generations of kids who don't go to college by forcing them to pay the tuition of those who do.

College tuition increases have vastly outstripped inflation because of student loans. I say the Feds should loan the money to colleges and they can loan the money out to students (dischargable in bankruptcy of course). They already go through a detailed admissions process so they should have a good idea on who is a good bet and who isn't.

I say the Feds should stay out of it and I also say that if someone got a degree and fails to pay back the loan, then their degree should be forfeited.

The Feds are already in it; they nationalized the student loan biz back in 2009. We're not going back. The best we can hope for is to limit the damage.

And that doesn't necessary mean a four year college degree but that college degree does average a pay about 50% higher than those without so the graduate can take the differential to paying of the loans quickly and be done with it. Scroll back I posted the numbers.

What percent of German students go on to a university?
