yes things have changed... women only received the vote not all that long ago, but we DO NOT judge the world today as it was yesterday...because it is not. Women are very capable and have equal access to education as do people of colour. We need to make sure the most competent people are employed to protect and continue to strengthen our economies. BUT if we do insist on using Affirmative Action we must also make sure these programs are regularly reviewed and their effect on our systems and economy evaluated... so that we do not erode them

Sorry you’re against diversity...I think it’s a great thing especially in this divided country. I can’t change your mind in that you think the women who are successful aren’t really that smart just lucky because of affirmative action. I’m sure you didn’t think that of men when it was white male affirmative action

There can be no equality if people are going to be treated special. Affirmative action is directly opposed to the very notion of equality...

Dismantling AA would actually INCREASE diversity, because it would remove present handicaps on Asian Americans. All other institutional handicaps against women and POC are long since removed, and yet you guys still have this one in place. I'm sorry you're against diversity.

As for a divided country, it's the people who are opposed to equality who are responsible for that. Those who keep insisting we're all measured by accidents of birth (race, etc), rather than the content of our characters. Such people have been an unmitigated disaster for the blossoming racial harmony we enjoyed until the early years of the 21stC.

Exactly. So no more need for anti-equality constructs like AA.

How can it be racism if women are supported by it?

But it was ok for hundreds of years .....when it was white men
You don’t even understand what racism is. When white males are denied opportunities like all college admissions because of gender like jobs etc. we can talk. When you look at the floor of Congress especially the republican party you see practically all white men.

Racism is prejudice based on race. That congress is full of white men is not racism. That's reality. Run for office or shut up.

I'm not whining, lol. Racism is racism. Sexism is sexism. Full stop. I'm not the one saying a majority of men being in congress is sexism. You are. If you want that to not be the case, then run for office. There is nothing stopping you.

Like casting a movie? Given the history of the casting couch and Harvey Weinstein, do you really think that's a good model?

I voted no, but I did not intend for that "no" vote to be a blanket no.

Here is what I would prefer to see happen instead of a total end to affirmative action.

It should be used as a method to deal with situations where biased practices have been shown to occur. That way it can be used as the corrective measure that it is intended to be without being applied across the board in situations where it isn't warranted. That will help apply it more accurately where it is needed as well as remove some of the stigma and negative attitudes it generates by not forcing it into situations where it isn't needed.

Of course it should be eliminated. The country was founded on the concept of equality. Affirmative action doesn't treat people equally. It treats some better at the expense of others. It happens all the time when federal government gets involved in social issues where it doesn't belong.

Sexism would be your gender being denied opportunities strictly because of their gender. You have had a Headstart for hundreds of years and it was recently that women have been running for office in large numbers … And winning but there is still plenty of sexism out there

This country was founded on equality? Please tell me you’re jokingYep women were equal even though they couldn’t vote. Yep women were equal even though they couldn’t own property. Yep,women could be raped and abused with no recourse Yep women were equal even though they had to give over any money they had to their husbands.
And those slaves they were really treated with equality
