As I was listing two separate things: Most stressful: ground combat. Then there was who was most tactical/biggest badasses/best warfighters.

    Good.

    The backbone of the Army.

My dad was in a tank unit in WW2 starting with Utah beach.

That whole ordeal stressed him out quite a bit and he had PTSD (they called it battle fatigue) nightmares for the next 25 years until he finally died.

    Yup.

Sometimes the tankers have it worse than the infantry.

Tanks are loud and noisy and you can't hide in one of them.

And death inside a tank is not pretty.

Yes they do. They've got much to think about flying most any airplane, except maybe a B-1 Bomber.

In fact one of the bravest military guys of all time, and the most decorated for his nation was a close air support pilot. If you can get past political correctness issues here is a short list of what he did:

He flew 2,500 combat missions -- more than any pilot ever, for any country, in any period of time. His stats speak for themselves – 11 airplanes, 519 tanks, 4 trains, 70 landing craft, two cruisers, a destroyer, a battleship, and over 1,000 enemy trucks and transport vehicles met their ends at his hands. He was shot down over a dozen times, crash landing after all of them. He even flew missions after his leg was shot off and replaced with a prosthetic.

I had chopper pilots in mind since they fly slower and are most vulnerable.

But a fighter pilot up in the sky in a dogfight with another fighter or two or several is going to be stressed like all Hell and his azz hole will be sucking buttermilk.

By the way, the fighter pilots think of you and me on the ground as morons.

Seeing that's been the case since 1789, we can be sure there's more to it than that.

That guy's record is even more impressive when taking into account many of his missions were flown without any air support covering him; it was rare for German forces to have air superiority on the eastern front from 1943 on; air power and anti-aircraft was largely stripped from the eastern front to be used against the Allied bombing raids.

Only those who've made their homes with an e tool know how horrible civilians are to the military. But yes, we understand that the founding fathers wanted it that way.

I suppose, but any civilian with any knowledge of American military history since WW2 should still understand that something something has gone way wrong.

They wanted the civilian leadership to treat military personnel like dirt?

    Vehicle care is critical.

While I don't agree with the buffing and polishing part, which is purely superficial, it sure impresses colonels, who are mostly brain dead by then.

I wash my car the same way we used to wash 6x6 trucks -- top to bottom.

Keep the engine area clean too.

Check the tires and the undercarriage too.

Ever since the late 1960's there has been hippy/yippy/yuppy contempt for the military.

So fokk all those hippies/yippies/yuppies then.

They are just slimy worms anyway that never got themselves in-fokked.

    Return the love/hate. Mostly hate.

When I had my car, I didn't wash it like that. I took it to the automatic washers, leaned my seat back, and listened to music. Tried not to think about all the times I washed deuce and a halfs

Picking up trash -- mostly C-rat boxes and cans -- was the first official project I had to run when I reported to the FMF after all the schools.

We used trash bags and there were 2 squads (total 20 troops) in the detail.

We hauled a truckload of trash out of that training area.

Afterwards the Major asked me, "Is it cleaned out now?"

I told him, "Major, there is so much trash still in there that we could go back and do it all over again and you still would not notice much of a difference."

He did not like that answer. He wanted his Faerie Fokking Godmother to magically make it Spik And Span !!

    :D
