Here is a real gun control proposal that doesn't ban any guns (that aren't already)

If so, it should be easy for -you- to demonstrate the necessity for, and efficacy of, universal registration of firearms.

That your point about the registration of cars, as applied to firearms, is meaningless.
    Got it,

Some of this makes a little bit of sense, but the problem is people have a constitutional right to arm themselves. Look at the big deal that was made over someone somewhere not being able to copy an ID because of some unproven obstacles that might make it too difficult to get one and compare it to the obstacles you mentioned.

Where I live (New Mexico) a car is considered an extension of a person's home, same thing for Texas. I've been stopped a bunch of times and sometimes they asked if I have a gun in the car, other times they didn't, either way it stopped when I told them I didn't have one in the car.

I hate to say this because I know how much it upsets people, but if we want to reduce gun violence we have to start looking at probability and that means profiling. Look at what the TSA is doing by body searching 90 year old grandmothers and giving the guy with the long beard and one long eyebrow a pass. That is literally endangering passengers due to political correctness and feelings. More than likely a guy walking around in a business suit is not about to engage in a drive by shooting, but the people most likely to do such a thing can't be 'randomly' stopped because it's racist. So now you have to ask yourself what's more important, his feelings or the potential saving of a life.

We profile ALL THE TIME, everyone of us do it every day, examples would be white people being the most lethal threat to the country, illegals being hard working family folks, blacks being oppressed and Asians being excellent in school. With lives on the line I can't see why we're not profiling today. Also, if people are worried about some minority group being profiled as being racist, then after a while, when the shootings stop or diminish, their reputation would be restored and the profile would disappear.

Very smart...it's never the criminal class that rises up against tyranny. ;)

i like it. the "conservatives" consider registration or any kind of responsibility to be communist.

There is no connection between registration and responsibility. two very different things.

I have owned the weapons I have responsibly for more than 30 years, they have never harmed anyone. There is no need for me to register them, and I never would.

That's the bazillion dollar question right there. I'll spare the thread my 'wild conspiracy theories' and just say- this should be an obvious, simple, bipartisanly supported thing to do ...and yet we don't.

Also, cars only have to be registered to be driven on public roads. If guns were regulated the same as cars, those regulations would only apply to guns being used on public property. They would not apply to guns being transported on public property or being kept or used on private property. I can own any car I can afford on my own property with no paperwork whatsoever, as long as its not stolen. I must say, applying that style of regulation to guns is fairly appealing ;)

The govt of CA went door to door confiscating banned guns? When did this happen?

They have a task force for that. They also redefined one allowable firearm to not allowable so they know where to go to confiscate them.

It works that way in my state. In order to transport a firearm here it must be locked in the trunk of the car. In order to carry a handgun, a permit is required and the handgun must be concealed. None of those things apply on one's own property.

England is. It's why they imported a bunch of rapeugees and turned parts of London into a mini-Mecca.

Guns are a tool. Bad people do bad things anyways.

    https://thefederalistpapers.org/us/d-c-gun-registration-law-ruled-unconstitutional
The Washington Post is reporting the following provisions were ruled unconstitutional:
    • Registered guns be re-registered every three years
    • A gun must be physically brought to D.C. police headquarters to be registered
    • Anyone seeking to register a gun must pass a test about firearms laws
    • The ban on registering more than one handgun per month.

If it is unconstitutional for a state to do this with respect to guns, it's unconstitutional at the federal level as well.

Why don't you understand that unnecessary and ineffective restrictions placed on the exercise of constitutionally protected rights vio0late the constitution?
