Americans should pay a visit to Bolivia, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina--virtually anywhere in South America if they want to know what real democracy is like.

Public funding of elections. And at this point the only way of enacting any reform without resorting to the violent, banal idiocy that many in the teabag fringe are advocating is a nice little general strike to completely grind the economy to a halt until we get our way. There is absolutely nothing short of acts of violence that the corporate elite fear more than having their money bags in a vice.

How about using examples of countries that don't take handouts from other countries. ie. countries that are both democratic and self sufficient.

The world is more integrated than ever before. You want self-sufficiency, go to North Korea. The issue here is democracy, and in few places is democracy more powerful than in South America.

On the one hand I agree but on the other, why invite us back? That's like inviting Germans to visit Poland.

You do have democracy. Of a sort.

But you don't deserve it. So we are going to take it back and give it to the Sudan.

Yes. Yes. I understand it is a foreign concept that people outside America elect truly representative governments. And I understand that you think that is not healthy.

    But we do it anyway.

yes, you have a different species of human in your country.
Those seeking privilege from their representatives voluntarily refrain, and the representatives never trade privilege for power.

    no, just not reality.

funny, most of the sheople in my country think that too.

Your perception is just as silly as theirs.

Forget the Reps and Dems...even Ron Paul can't fix us

Putting Ron Paul in office would be the biggest mistake we could make.

republic..This video is really sad..Out of developed nations..the only thing the U.S. is first in is SELF ESTEEM.

For crying in a bucket..we may owe foreigners an apology if that's all we have to bring to the table now.

Teacher's unions..where 3 years of service guarantees you a job for life..And we spend more money than any other nation on education..and this is what we have to show for it..

U.S. schools and administrators want to teach values and provide sex educations to our children..How about teaching them to read and write..add and subtract..think critically?

Most people feel disempowered by the system; they feel so disempowered that even when you explain to them what they need to do to fix their problems, they can't get motivated to do it because they don't feel as if it's possible. The task of taking back the American government would be a decades-long proposition that would first have to begin in the churches. Any movement to address the problems in the US government would first require a mass movement to liberal churches, otherwise it will go nowhere. American Socialists can only gain traction when they utilize the language of faith. The only kind of conviction that could bring people through the inevitable hardships associated with fixing this system is spiritual conviction.

It's very, very, hard to get Americans to realize they have political power outside of voting. The idea of, say, civil disobedience is completely alien to the majority--the only group that really has experience with that are relics from the civil rights movements. The most you can really get people to do is maybe write a somewhat angry letter to the editor of the local paper that doesn't really reach beyond the acceptable contours of debate.

I don't think that would shake our apathy. We'd just look around at the ruin and declare that America is still the best country and that our best days are still ahead of us if we just stay the course. Because few would want to face and accept their abject failure and do something about it.

I'm having a tough time thinking of anything. Health care reform could have been such a thing, but they turned it into another tool to keep us under corporate control.

No. No, the answer is not to hold ourselves to the ideal of 18th century slaveowners. The answer is to make a new constitution for the modern era, that reflects our values--not the values of rich people from 200 years ago.

Too much Guinness...........if only! But I do prefer the real ales myself!

Just for your information the "Draft" which Obama can now instigate at any time of his choosing, the age limits has now gone from 26 to 42.
    And more importantly.........you know nothing!

You have a nice day, enjoy the lovely blue sky, look at it through your rose tinted glasses.

Your political institutions have been taken over your by AIPAC. Your American nation is being penalised, excluded from the basic concepts derived from the American constitution written by your forefathers......and you're not interested, says a lot about your standard of education and the lack of national pride and identity!

Again it may of passed you're well honed intellectual abilities... aahmmm... but the only ones stooping to the tactics Hitler used...... are the same propagandists you're supporting!

So...........you cannot and are unable to answer of my three questions regarding your government's legislation!

Yes I think I'll "sod off".

    Regards
    Highlander

Common Dreams..enough said..a tool of the progressives..When I saw that the looney, radical, America hating Bill Moyers supported this site..I knew it was rotten to the core.

I suggest you who oppose this nation jump on the bus..hurry..it's about to go over the cliff's edge.

Some politicians are..and they are 'on notice'..Many Americans are hopeful that this election will show politicians who serve themselves and their interests over the rest of us what happens.
