Hyphenated Americans should get half a vote

No. Same reasons as I gave before. You don't punish someone for asserting their Rights.

 

Fully committing to being an American means OPPOSING all racist attempts to SUPPRESS Minority Votes.

 

I'd love to see the overlap between people who get triggered by 'hyphenated Americans' and jump up and down about 'division', and people who either display Confederate flags or think it is perfectly fine to wave them around or have them displayed on government property. Anyone care to bet on how big that overlap is?

My bet is that somehow displaying the symbols of people who chose to betray America, tear it apart and kill hundreds of thousands of loyal Americans isn't going to fall under 'divisive', while acknowledging a nation or ethnicity of origin is.

How about people who display Confederate symbols or supports the retention of monuments glorifying traitors who tried to destroy America get 0% votes? Clearly they don't support the concept of a unified America, so why let them vote in one?

 

I don't view it as punishment, I view it as an equitable distribution of your right to vote. If your allegiance is not 100% to America you don't get 100% of your vote.

 

Reality doesn't care how you view something.

Post civil war Lincoln wanted to reunite the country so he implemented a plan of letting the south honor it's flag and fallen heroes. What he didn't want was to further the divide by coming in like a conquering army and subjugating the the confederate states. He chose to welcome them back into the union instead in an attempt to defuse tensions.
Today there are still people in the south proud of their ancestors who fought bravely for the cause and in the spirit of Lincoln we should still allow them to do so.
Having said that I can understand why the confederate flag and confederate statues would rub blacks the wrong way but we can't go around changing everything that offends any group or we won't have any statues, any flags, any holidays.......

I mentioned this earlier in this conversation. Labels are usually applied by OTHER people versus the person, themselves. I have never heard any minority refer to themselves using a hyphen unless asked a direct question (ie. on documents).

Paying full taxes is not up to you, it's the law and tax cheats go to jail. You can't vote from jail.
