    Attempting to claim giving blacks three fifths representation was racist is faulty logic. The slave owning south wanted them fully counted so they could spread the institution of slavery. The abolitionist states demanded they be counted as less than a full person to thwart the spread of slavery.

    Of course. Everyone over the age of 10 knows this!

    Processed carbs (any grain with the germ removed, which is what makes the end product white) are terrible. Should always be complex ... brown rice, whole wheat, etc.

    I married into a very non-white migrant family .. and even the eldest members (some still with thick accents and strong cultural habits) call themselves ours. They don't mention their country of origin unless asked.

    That's not the point about the rice, though. It's not only empty, but it's high GI .. meaning it plays havoc with blood sugars. As does white bread.

    What is appalling is that those on the right are tacitly CONDONING the racism that exists on their side by FAILING to CONDEMN it.

    I agree it's silly to identify as "African-American" or "Italian-American" when most that do so have never seen those places outside of pictures. But they have a Right to do so.
