The people living in California tend to live longer than the people living in the rest of the country. New York is just behind California. The worse health outcomes are in red states. A person with a serious health issue does much better in New York or California than one does in West Virginia Or Mississippi.

However I think that the Biden administration will do much to restore America’s place in the world. In the early days of the Trump fiasco, the Trump held a conference with industry leaders. A great deal of them, especially those from the software, computer, and technology companies walked out going, “What an idiot!”. It was then when the captains of industry decided to take steps to ensure the Trump was not re-elected. Biden is different, I’m sure that industry will help him with our national problems. But then, I am a bit of an Atari Democrat. One who thinks that science and technology is needed to solve our problems. Most people will never, on their own, do what is necessary to solve or even alleviate the global warming problem. Over the past 40 years or so, many clean technologies have been being developed. Televisions, water heaters, washing machines, and refrigerators use far less electricity than they did a couple of generations ago. Houses are better insulated and our automobiles get better gas mileage.

Recently Ford has announced that they will offer an electric version across their entire line. The Trump tried to block the technology and the infrastructure but it seems, with Ford and GM on board, the future of America is electric cars. Conservatives will be screaming bloody murder, like they did when we transitioned from incandescent lighting to light emitting diode lighting, but the change will come and global warming will be held in check. Conservatives will jump on board or be left behind.

It's impossible for this country to unite while somebody who is now making a living of dividing us has such a huge following. So, you are correct... let's just focus on trying to erase the image Trump left behind that we are an insane anti-science nation and try to regain some of our position in the world in the areas of human rights, supporters of Democracy and a country run by rational people. It will take many many years to undo the damage that Trump has done, and is trying to continue doing. But... Biden will do what he can.

Showing the world that Trump's crimes had consequences for him could go a long way in recovering a bit of what we lost.

 

All the crimes that are being considered are those which supposedly occurred before he became president. It is only because he became president that these "crimes" became apparent with endless investigations and other officials trying to make a name for themselves or profit from the experience. It makes no difference how you try to frame it, it is pure vengeance against the person rather than in response to the "crimes".

Putting him in prison will make us comparable to some third world country rather than "recovering a bit of what we lost".

 

No idea what you're talking about. Trump committed crimes before, during... and I'm sure will continue committing crimes after he's out of the presidency.

So now you start to realize how much damage Trump has done to this country.

We can recover from Trump turning us into a third world country. There is no way we could recover from stopping to be a country of laws.

 

Let me summarize that damage.

Got a economy going at a rate unparalleled in history.

Recovered a military from non-functional.

Mostly extracted us from the middle east.

He forced our allies into paying closer to their fair share.

He attempted to get trade with china on a level playing field. Generally sabotaged by the democrats.

I am sure others would find more.

I see that as the good outweighing the bad.

He did not handle the pandemic well.\. But I have seen no evidence that a single one of the democrats would have done better. They are great at hindsight, but their foresight leaves much to be desired.

Mainly what I see is a president which I don't like and a democratic party which I like even less. I have no doubts that all too many would rather see the country fail than for Trump to succeed.

 

I believe you exaggerate. It is parallel to Bush's in 2008 and Hoover's in 1929.

On the other hand, you might have a point in that when crashing the economy and leaving hundreds of thousands of Americans dead in the process Trump's incompetence is unparalleled.

 

If you really believe that, there is no help for you.

It is comments like that makes me dislike the democrats more than Trump. Such a remark by Trump under similar circumstances about democrats would be considered a lie.
